that rucking is shie no technique just piling glad the new rules are in now, have to stay on your feet with control at the start. but that "mangled dog rucking" is sick.
Bring back rucking - It will tidy up the contact area, the rules relating to the breakdown area are a farce at the moment. They are responsible for ruining the game, see the latest S14 scores, that aint rugby!
@dartmoordog exactly, i agree! if a player knows he's gonna get a shoe-in for being on the wrong side of a ruck or on top of the ball, he's not gonna be there for long is he! it would get the game flowing quicker. what's the point of studs if not to rake em down ur opposition's back, eh?
@FlankerDeiniol Yes mate that is the way I see it. I played and coached the game for over 35 years, go to Wales and play Ponty back in the 70s/80s as a 7 and find your self on the wrong side....Ouch. Down to Cornwall against Camborne and put your hands on the ball in a ruck, you want to see my fingers! Mind you...I dished it a bit as well :o) GO EXETER CHIEFS!!

Would there be a penalty on the All Blacks for diving over the ruck? I mean that was pretty messy. And if you look at it there are a lot of hnads in on that one.
thats awesome! lol im training to be a coach at the moment but my only question id have from it is cus you have put so many into the ruck you only got a kicking option i seen a few backs involved in that.
in which case can go horribly wrong as it creates an overlap and get out flanked should they rush and not get shut down.. Kicking option is predictable- go blindside
The mongrel dog saying comes from up north. In the Mount Eden Rugby Club A changing room there is a framed explanation of the mongrel dog complete with the Northland Shield and Kauri Tree.
if you dont like it. dont give the oposition the option. but if your some horrible openside then thats part of your game to get a few studs on you. perfectly good rucking.
Yeah I bet Mcaw will agree with you. Job is to put your body on the line at every opportunity. I've put my hands in and rightly got a few boots for my trouble..fair enough
I play under 18s rugby, and were not allowed to give opposition players who are on the wrong side a small prod or two in order to encourage them to move, which i find pretty irritating as it never really did anyone any harm back in the days when it was kinda allowed, so why now? obviously u keep the boots below head level, common sense really, but a few scratches never hurt anyone
The person who posted this video is obviously deaf or his/her ears are filled with ear wax and needs to get it cleaned with a box of cotton buds. The same person also makes the same reference to "coffee" book rather than copy book rugby. Btw the commentator says "mongrel" dog as in the Mongrel Mob organized gang of NZ or the mongrel dog.

In deference to the women who now play the great game, rugby is for the brave and valiant. Sometimes the only way to get the ball . . . is with the boot. That's why the game is so great.
This is just a forward's way of reminding players of the laws of the game. If you're on the ground, or the ball is in the ruck, don't put your hands on it. If you're off your feet, laying over the ball, rolling over it like a cheap date, your back is going to have some decorations after the match. It's just a gentle reminder.
Not allowed to ruck like that anymore, part of my yellow the other saturday was for putting the boot to someone.....anddddd not stamping on them......apparently he "wasnt in the way" what the ref calls "in the way" i dont exactly know, cos apparently obstructing our half from getting the ball and making it difficult to ruck isnt "in the way"

you must be an efette winger. That ruck brought tears of joy to my eyes - back in the days when you release the ball, cover your goolies and eyes and grit yourself for the inevitable onslaught. It's part of the game, and certainly not cheating.
btw. It's NOT more prevalant than 20 years ago. Rugby has been emasculated by ill-advised rule changes. I rarely watch it any more.
This sense of the word 'mongrel,' in New Zealand, refers to something that has an aggressive or visious temperament. The term possibly comes from dogs bred in the wild.

I guess it is, because the referee stops the game not for the move, wether the no ball tackle after the play!
