  • Great Video, 5 Stars!

  • @60103Henry Thank you - I enjoyed this session! Mike

  • ahaaa love to se lovlyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

  • The last shot was the pre-pretendolino set

  • 1:38 lol

  • wow thats fast i never seen anything like that before in canada and i hope i wil

  • It's 90 MPH on the reverse curves at Bugbrooke. The Fiat Pendolinos are designed to run up to 140 MPH but have a maximum of 125 MPH elsewhere on the WCML.

I like this spot - you can reach out and touch the trains! LOL - Mike

  • yah but youll probably lose your hand , lol :)

  • @NN2Blue Sorry to steal your thunder but the line speed at this location is actually 110/EPS125 MPH, so your comparison with the narrow boat is more likely to be 106/121 MPH.

  • Please, I'm happy to be corrected! I did see it written somewhere in the past that the reverse curves at Bugbrooke were subject to a 90 MPH limit. Possibly pre-WCML upgrade. Doesn't feel like 125MPH when you stand at the bridge at Bugbrooke within touching distance, it feels a lot less. - Mike

  • @NN2Blue It's possible there may have been a temporary one some while ago, but certainly the sharper curves at Weedon, which for many a year was 80 MPH and raised in the 80's to 100MPH are now 100/EPS110(Voyager)/EPS120(Pendo).

  • Mike:

I am sure you use a tripod for most of your videos. I need a good, lightweight tripod as I don't have any, at an affordable price of course. Do you have any recommendations for me?

I have just retired and I am learning video editing at age 68. Please see my latest videos "Glimpses of Boston 1" and "Tall ships in Boston", if you have not already done that. Do you think Hollywood will hire me? LOL.

    Shoban

  • Hi Shoban,

Actually I do not use a tripod; I rest the camera on bridges, wedge it against fences, pop it on top of fence posts, and hand hold if I cannot find anywhere suitable! The camera can get scratched so I cover where I can with Aluminum tape for extra protection!!

I will have a look at your videos.

How big is your camera? I'm actively considering a lightweight monopod for extra stability.

    Mike

  • Wow. I thought you use a tripod. My camera is very small and lightweight. It is a JVC Everio GZ-MG630. I cannot do monopod. I need a tripod. But the good ones (like Manfrotto) costs at least $200 to $300. I cannot afford that.

  • just noticed(00.25sec)casper makes an apperence, dose he really think he can catch a pendo at full speed. what are you feeding him on. lol

  • On Northbound trains on the other side of the tracks you can hear Casper running back down the stairs having chased the train up the stairs. Strange hound; he love's it! - Mike

  • Living in Somerset I am not used to seeing trains travelling at such speeds! There is no chance to switch your camcorder on before they are gone!

  • Well maybe not on the WSR!! Could nip out to the WR main line. LOL!

  • Nice one Mike.....you must have one hellof a suntan by now !!

  • Thanks.

The thing about the WCML is that it's so busy you don't have to hang around for very long to get enough material for an interesting video. This video is the best of about one hour! - Mike

  • pendo`s and narrow boats together, you lucky git. the calender red stripes is on about, the picture was taken at an place called ansty (northhamton maybe?) you can have the the said calender if you want . keep up the good work and more of dogstar casper.

  • Ansty is near Coventry and the WCML and a canal run side by side near Ansty. Thanks for the offer; a few months to go yet! Casper and I went down the Northampton Arm of the Grand Union today - BIG set of narrow locks which link the GU with the River Nene navigation in Northampton. Took some video, then helped a narrow boat through six sets of locks. Have a look on Google Earth. Yup - Lucky Git and with the freight on the Northampton Loop..........

  • Fine Vido. 5*****!

  • Thank you Sir! That location is "All Action!"

  • excellent video Mike

    lots of action

    Wayne

  • Thanks Wayne. This vid is as much about sound as vision but this location does allow you to "cosy up" to trains traveling at 90MPH - it's not for the faint hearted!! - Mike

  • awesome mike yet again!:) btw the calander at my local station is in the northampton area this month a pic of a barge and a pendolino:P

  • There you go - ahead of the game! LOL.

I was pleased to pick up 90029 as it blasted past!

Not having "a man on the inside", it was a bit of "pot luck" whether I saw it or not. - Mike

  • hahaha!:) aye dunno what i would do without inside help:D ..its exictning tho when something great comes that u dont know about

  • That voyager at about 1 minute sounded quite funny!

Awesome yet again Mike. The WCML is great!

    5*

  • Thank you. Fast trains with flat tyres do sound entertaining! - Mike

  • Fantastic, all action shots there Mike, what a lovely day to film in such beautiful countryside. You know who was getting very excited, what have you done to him...has he caught locoitis?....Bob

  • The WCML can be that exciting! I went to Bugbrooke on the off chance of getting the 90 and to give the dog a swim! LOL. Temperatures might hit 90F today - not sure where to go! - Mike

  • Put the bathers on Mike and go for a dip in the canal..lol...Bob

  • Actually, bathers and an old pair of daps and I might take the dog to the River Nene Navigation at Earl's Barton - The water is crystal clear, upto 4 ft deep - not the Brown Windsor Soup of the Grand Union! :-)

  • Sounds good to me Mike, looking at the weather today, bathers, daps and stand in the back garden, may be the best option!!...Bob

  • Im out on the West coast mainline tommorrow cannot wait. 8 months since I last was and this is just made me more excited thanks 5* :D

  • Blimey that was quick! Thanks! Watch again when the high quality processing has finished - should be even more exciting!! LOL Mike
