@yvettemadrid75 I have the DVD at home and I was watching the interview with Tony Curtis and he seemed really nice but then I found out he was really... in love with himself in a sense that it seemed he wanted everyone to be in love with him
Billy Wilder was a genius for sure with a tremendous body of work such as Double Indemnity, Sunset Blvd, and while Lemmon and Joe E Brown in particular were brilliant and should have won Oscars for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, Marilyn Monroe is the reason this film is a classic. Lovely Mitzi Gaynor was initially set for Sugar Kane and the part was supporting the two Men. With MM on the film, MM not the Men became central to the story. Marilyn Monroe should have won the Oscar
@AnnaLee33 I love MM but it is a fact that while making this film she was going thru many personal problems (she just lost a baby, was unhappy in her marriage to Miller) She was on lots of meds. Acknowledging she was difficult during the filming does not take away from how brilliant she was. It is well documented by the other actors that it was hard for them to work with her, but none have ever denyed the brilliance of her performance. Why is it so hard to believe that she was not perfect ?
Hmmmm...what this guy doesn't mention is that all the location footage--on the beach, at the hotel, etc--and the dificult upper berth scene with Lemmon and all the girls were filmed with no problems at all. One or two takes. I also have my doubts about just HOW MANY takes she required. As the years of telling go on, so do the number of takes. She was difficult and disturbed, but I believe there is exaggeration in some of these tales.
This joker says that "many people don't know" that there were many problems on the set of SOME LIKE IT HOT. Who doesn't know? It's probably the most notorious "making-of" story out of Hollywood. Let me offer the following observation: those who don't know, don't care.
He was not at all critical of Marilyn...he was just telling it as it was....she was going through a very bad time personally and she was often unable to deliver her lines..It is well documented by the actors and others involved with this film.I love Marilyn but she was a person who sometimes found it difficult to over come her personal problems...pointing this out does not mean you are being critical and it also does not take away from her luster and beauty and talent.
Of course he was critical of her. He gave the impression as if it was sooo hard for Lemmon and Curtis to shoot the movie with her, DESPITE of her presence in the movie!!
And that isn't faitr to her. True artists need to be inspired to give their best and do some things over and over again, to get the right feeeling for it and bring it to perfection.
Marilyn was this type of perfectionist,. That's why she is legend.
She was a perfectionist all her life, also as a model.
@AnnaLee33 I think Curtis said of his make-out scene with Marilyn that it was "like kissing Hitler." If I had to work with a guy who talked about me that way I'd probably booze it up and show up late too, not to mention all the other stuff going on with her in her life at the time.
One of the best movies ever. I really love Marilyn!
And I also know the german movie (Fanfaren der Liebe)- the german actor Georg Thomalla was in this movie and he was also the german voice for Jack Lemmon till Thomalla died in 1999.
this is a great movie..so funny

Billy Wilder said he would rather have Marilyn late to the set than have any other actress on time. Damn right!

@gaga10ish1 I see it as both. Because some of the lines are just deliberately stupid.

@MrImsokewl You really have no idea where she went. You are probably a homo who hates women. What makes you think you aren't going there?

Interesting. As critical as this is to Monroe, when she is on the screen you're not looking at anyone but her.
