What is unknown (for the most part) is how mutations/abnormalities in genes (which cause chemical imbalances), are inherited. Yes, the actual genes that causes chemical imbalances are unknown , how these genes are mutated is unknown, and how the gene with abnormalities are inherited are unknown as well. (for the most part, besides a recent discovery of the inversion in gene SLITRK1 that is linked to the syndrome).
I definitely disagree with saying he "has his facts all wrong"..
The pathophysiology of the disease is actually accepted by researchers and phsyicians. Obviously he is over simplifying the pathophys of the syndrome so that people are able to grasp the general idea of how some symptoms are exhibited. Each case of tourettes is complex and unique, caused by varying imbalances of chemicals.
The guy in the video has got his facts all wrong. The cause, as of today October 16, 2010 has not been established. It is suggested there are issues with neurotransmitters for Dopamine and even Serotonin but there is no solid solid proof. ALSO Coprolalia affects 10% not 6%.
