I'm a northeastern city boy snob who shuddered when he heard country until I heard JJW in 1976. I was wrong. He added humour to writing that couldn't be beat by any genre. To JJW and geez, yup,to country !!!
Nice to hear a song pay tribute to Jerry Jeff, he's a really talented Texas icon, despite the fact that he was born in New York!! Just kidding. Anyway, Jerry Jeff is one of the greats and one of my all-time favorites. I miss the good ol' days of outlaw Texas cow-jazz.
I'll never forget seeing JJW on July 4, 1982 in Lagrange, TX (yes, that Lagrange). Outdoor concert and hotter than heck. He came out in short and running shoes. Played a great concert.
Saw JJW at the famous "Cain's Ballroom" in Tulsa,Ok. back in "97 or "98. It was summer and at that time the Cain's still didn't have air-conditioning, so it was HOT HOT HOT but Jerry came on stage, the crowd went wild and he played 3 solid hours with the only breaks being to say a quick comment to the audience or to take a quick drink. He was POURING sweat but never let up. Sounded GREAT and sang everything we wanted. It was awesome.
I have seen JJW many a time here in Oklahoma...... Is close enough to TX. Been many years but, JJW has always been one of my fav Tx outlaw singers/song writers.
this is a terrible tribute to jjw even if he is in it. they are still not good enough to open for him judging by the sounds of this song. it was a good attempt at a tribute, but not very good in my opinion. sorry.
@probinson1337 I never got to see JJW at AWH, but I did get to go there many times when I was a soldier at Ft. Hood. GREAT bar and concert hall and Beer garden. So sad it was taken down!!!
@kens054 I was also at Ft Head in '76-'77...2nd of the 5th Cav....and one of my "buddies" was a Texan and he took me to AWH and it was everything the rumors said it was....never saw JJW there but saw Willie and Charlie and a few I don't remember (that happened often as we were there 2 or 3 times a month) ...here we are 40 years later...as survivors with stories to tell...
You are probably right! I hung around Nashville for about 12 years and it seemed that all they were concerned about was MONEY. Most Texas pickers concern themselves with the MUSIC first! As you say, that as become secondary for most "professionals" in the music BUSINESS.. It's more Business than music these days.. Shame......

@easygrip if you had ever seen JJW at the old Armadillo World Headquarters you'd know what a great, and accurate, tribute this is.

@kenroom My husband knew JJ back in the day. You have NO idea how close your comment is to the truth!

Jerry, If you happen to read this - dedicate one to Summer of 71, the Rubiyat, 3400 Cole Avenue and A. Wayne Damron! May they all RIP! *winks*

Maybe in the old days. He's still singing those wonderful songs. Come join us in Belize to see how he's doing these days. :)

Everybody knows Jerry Jeff!! Don't you think so??
coleyman1 2 years ago
Nope. Jerry Jeff plays with guts and soul. Those things have become irrelevant and frankly, unwanted in modern pop country radio
