Video games are harmful to everybody. My sister played Mortal Combat and killed herself by jumping off a building. It is sad. Video games are the devil. BAN THEM ALL AT ONCE!!!
@GreatYeldar or maybe ur sister was an idiot who could not see ficition form reallty if u try to say video games killed ur sister when in fact video games dont kill people its the idiots who play them kill themseles or go out & kill people when in fact its poor parenting who dont teach there kids right form wrong stop blaming video game if someone dies even before video games people killed and may i add u will NEVER BAN VIDEO GAMES
Did you happen to hear about his little court misdemeanor? I can't believe they let him off. It's crazy that just because he says it won't happen again he gets excused from a blatant professional misdemeanor. I mean just look at his history: Janet Reno, Penny Arcade, swearing on national television, and now presenting images of gay sex acts in a court of law? Seriously! How many times does he have to embarass his firm before they rovoke his licence?
Im 15 years old, i do play Gta IV and i do play Counterstike ++. I even listen to death metal very much. I do love movies like saw and hostel and watch them over and over. But man! im NOT a violate person. I'm a Christian and im nice to everyone!
Movies, games, music do Not have effects on people/kids. If some won killed somebody because of playing a game, then the person was just screwed in his mind from the start. Peace <3
I don't think he deserves to die, I'm not that kind of person. How I see it, he should get disbarred so that he doesn't cause people any more grief over stuff like this.
That's my point. When he says what he says and the gaming public fires back with "Bull*** you n00b, ur gay and deserve to rot in hell!", you KNOW he is stitting there saying "THANK YOU! I rest my case."
Well,in England violent games are like alcohol and cigarettes here in that it is a required law not to sell them to minors. Gamestop, WalMart, and so on just do it for company policy, they are not being forced to. There is NO LAW in America that says a minor cannot buy a violent game. (S)He'd just need to find one of the many places that'll ring him up without even asking. In England it's your company being shut down, and whoever is ultimately found responsible handed over to police.
violent media is never a cause to this, but possibly a motivation for this. but they did not kill because Marilyn Manson or Carl Johnson told them to.
i think that if your 16, have a job a car and make your own money you should be considered mature enough to buy a game that has boobies and guns in it, jesus christ. and it should be parents who say you cant, not douchebags like this. (jack Thompson)
I was under the impression that you couldnt buy a M rated game from Gamestop or anyother places without a parent or guardian there with you. Hey, its a game, shooting someone on halo is not going to train you to become a killer, it gives you no training on how to handle or use the gun whatsoever. His theory is sooo flawed its not even funny.
Well, there are those that follow it and those that do not. In England there is a law in place and federal penalties in place as well for selling to the underaged. Having that in America is the answer as far as I am concerned, and Jack Thompson actually does say that...but THEN he goes on his little degrading campaigns and thats where I think he is over the line.
I have no problem with someone having an opinion, but his turn into insults and degredation more often than not.
dude before they new it was cho who did the shooting he blamed gta san andreas and same with eric harris and dylan klebold he blamed doom, the econemy of north america are oil, cars, guns (maybe), and then video games, if video games where stopped the sales tax generated from them can hurt the econemy. i saw jack thompson in a store using his son to buy gta san andreas to sting a retailer even tho they did not break a law
It's the theme song from Street Fighter III, 3rd Strike. It's just an edited version of it, its the "you (win/lose)" version of it, with an echo effect added.
Yes, kid's get there hand's on the games, because they want to play it. My parent's buy me games and I was like 9-12 when I started playing M rated games, I still do, and guess what? I've never in a fight, and I rarely swear. In this case I will swear when I say Jack Thompson is a piece of shit.
My point is that the parents have to play a role in what you get. Since your parents knew of what you got, its fine, but it isnt good for parents to not have any idea. Plus, not EVERY kid knows better...but despite what Jack beLIEves, most kids do.
Nice video but, there is presently no hard evidence proving that violent games can influence children into performing violent acts. I'm not saying that it's okay to hand a six year old a copy of Gears of War though.
actlaly he was also "crusading" against rap and hip hop before video games claiming the same thing but being the glory seeker he is he dropped it and picked up videogames when he found out how much more sucessfull that campaign was.
I seriously hope Thompson sees this video. Seriously. How does a video game "train" you to kill someone? Take Doom for instance: somehow I doubt that you will be taking on Cacodemons in real life. I could be wrong, but whatever. Everyone has control over their own actions, Jack. Unfortunately, some people have no self restraint or conception of the difference between fiction and reality. You have this strange delusion that video games cause every atrocity.
Did video games cause the Holocaust? Did video games cause 9/11? Did video games result in the Killing Fields in Vietnam? How about the Salem Witch Trials? Yeah, didn't think so.
A REAL good movie on the subject is Gamers Unite Parts 1 and 2 by PBC Productions (I have a link to them on my channel), its about a group of gamers that got together to object to the image of gamers being what Jack Thompson has cast them as, they said the breaking point was in fact, Jack blameing games for V-tech.
I knew that, but that was the only instance on record, and it was 15-16 years ago. Music is as much of a player in it all as it was then, and yet Jack hasn't wagged a finger in it's direction since 2 Live Crew. He also went after...I think Ice Cube for "Cop Killa", and got it kicked off too, if I am not mistaken.
Your greatest weapon is self-control. Some people's gets eroded over time and they snap. If anything, video games might be 'one' factor but it takes several others to lead to it. It all depends.
I consider the violence thing old news. We all know humanity has been too naive in its ways to ever do the right thing.
I agree that it is old news, but SOME PEOPLE keep bringing it up, particularly that of the video game variety.
Its funny. I read an old article in a book the other day, a section of it was written by Jack Thompson (around the release of GTAIII). I was in the mood for a laugh, what with it being finals week, so I read it. I was shocked to find his article was basically saying that the parents need to step it up and see what their kids are playing. I dont get him anymore.
Jack Thompson has no power. He has been laughed out of court, disciplined by the Florida Bar MANY times, and vilified by many groups to which he claims support.
Except that recently, a kid mailed him a sarcastic threat letter about going on a school shooting. He asks in his letter which gun to use and which game to train on. So, it does give Jack some credibility, unfortunately. I'll send you the letter page.
You do realize also that Jack Thompson won't take your comments seriously, because he's made it pretty clear that he thinks that gamers are beyond help. Yes, even the civil gamers. I read a letter that someone wrote to Jack, a civil letter. The moment Jack read that he was a gamer, he wouldn't even give an indepth response to the letter.
I know he probably won't. But ive seen him take some people's small opinions over the top (Penny Arcade is one of his biggest enemies, and it all started over him being mentioned in one of their comics), and who knows? Maybe he youtubes himself (would ya be surprised?) and will see this.
I would like to think he knows better...of course, I assumed he knew better once before, and as you can tell by the first bit of the movie, it left me $5 short.
If there are kids under 17 getting the games, it's because of the parents being too fucked in the head to read the ESRB rating and find out what's in the game. The rating's there for a reason people!

about time someoen said we gamers are fuelling his fire. The way I see it, if we stay civilized, Jack Thompson doesn't have an arguement.

Truthfully I don't think eliminating violent media would work considering we had folks like:
Attilla the Hun
Ivan The Terrible
Jack The Ripper
Al Capone
Bonnie & Clyde
Napoleon
Genghis Khan
Joseph Stalin
Adolf Hitler
