Run the trackball over a piece of paper, forcefully, and it should correct itself for at least a short while. The issue is due to a design flaw. The charging port is too close to the trackball housing. When charging, the seat for the trackball heats up, and the ball develops a lot of play. It can get stuck to one side or the other, preventing you from scrolling. Keep a small fan on the phone while it's charging, as well. My Eris has the same issue, and those steps seem to work well.
