  • Precious footage! Those bison are fascinating!!!

  • Amazing the creatures of our planet...I mustn't miss your footage of your upcoming trip :D

  • Heh... I'm still putting up vids of our last two trips...

  • Wow, terrific footage. Again, I'm reading comments. Yes, everywhere we go in the west there are prohibitions about feeding the wildlife. It's really foolish to do but people think 'it won't matter just this once' and choose not to realize that there are millions of other tourists with the same idea. The squirrels at the Grand Canyon will accost you for food because they are so used to being fed - they act like teenagers and leave you with no doubt that they are owed your lunch!

  • Woah! It's so tempting to feed squirrels at home, but I don't for that reason.

Thx, Liz. There might be some people who probably are not aware of the warnings (but probably more who know them but don't heed them). I was amazed that people would let their children get out of the car! Are we so used to being around gentle dogs and cats that they have the wrong impression of wild creatures?!

  • Yeah, I think they have gone to too many petting zoos. But you're right, it is common that people do that. I've seen it with other wild animals. Not good for the animals and not good for the people. Is ignorance really bliss?

  • The bison were so close to the road! They were't even bothered by the cars. The baby was so cute! Couldn't believe you got that on video. OMG!

  • Haa, you can hear our excitement, too! Still, we were reticent to go near them even in the car; they were so large, and could have charged the vehicles if they chose to!

  • More useless info for you Lizzz:Bisons will attack humans if provoked. They appear slow because of their lethargic movements, but they can easily outrun humans they have been observed running as fast as 35 miles (56.3 km) per hour. Between 1978 and 1992, over four times as many people in Yellowstone National Park were killed or injured by bison as by bears (12 by bears, 56 by bison).

  • Bison also have the unexpected agility, given the animal's size and body structure, to leap over a standard barbed-wire fence.

So always stay in your car if you visit again!

  • I stayed in the car 'this' time! I couldn't believe people were getting out of their cars! My sister did recite that '35 miles per hour' to me in this vid, but she couldn't remember whether it was bison or bears that ran that fast lol; now we know, thx. Amazing and most sad, millie, 56 deaths by bison. You'll be happy to know there is quite a campaign out now to 'not feed the bears' We did see some gently climb, not jump, over fences right outside the lodge, and were surprised at that agility.

  • A campaign not to feed the bears! i would of thought the feeding of bears was already prohibited?

  • 'prohibited' doesn't mean people followed that prohibition! I wonder...I really don't recall warnings about bison, but it surely was there, considering the deaths each year.

  • Some of most beautiful footage I have yet to edit is of bison walking at early morning sunrise through the steam beds :)

  • Sounds Lovely. You have been busy with uploading today. Its been great.Thanks.

  • LOL a LOT of meat! Ten feet long is amazing, isn't it. It was a thrill to see them so close up! Thx for the facts; I'll copy that into the description w/credits! :)

  • LOL, I like it :-)

  • I do enjoy these road trip you take with sis.Such fun.WoW, BIG Bisons! did you know... Bison can reach up to 2 meters (6.6 ft) tall, 3 meters (10 ft) long, and weigh 900 to 2,200 pounds (400 to 1000 kg). The biggest specimens on record have weighed as much as 2,500 pounds (1,130 kg).Thats alot of meat!

  • We do love our road trips. We plan wickedly to get in the car...whether a short ride through the Ohio countryside, looking for real estate, or trips like this one, which is our longest to date (and actually had to be cut short) :D

  • ...and why not indeed! get out and about whilst you can. There is soo much beauty out there to see :-)
