I hope your talking about the game . . . because the movie was a complete mockery of a sheer classic. They either replaced or changed the characters so drastically that they can not be recognized, the only exception is Cybil, who was a fairly static character throughout both the movie and the game.
The game was a brilliant, mind bending, emotional trip through the insane. Avery's script and Gan's directing were just asinine. The only thing it had going for it was the visuals.
Your talking about the intial conflict between Rose and Cybil.
I've got a lot of beef with the movie, but I don't fret the minor differences. An adaptation isn't supposed to be an exact copy of the original, nor was I expecting it to. As far as characters go, I expect them to get core personality traits right, but I don't expect ever piece of dialogue or interaction to be exact. Cybil was one of the least fleshed out characters in the game, almost a blank slate.
@deathhound7 Which I understand and I didn't expect it to be the exact same but they ruined everything I loved about Silent Hill. And then Silent Hill: Origins and Silent Hill: Homecoming just furthered the death of Silent Hill for me.
They could have at least had a reasoning for the monsters, or for Pyramid Head. Or kept Sharon as a guy named Harry and Rose a girl named Cheryl. Also, why did they ruin the fact that Dahlia was insane?
I feel a little sheepish for not hating SH: Origins. It deals a little bit more with Alessa, and that's really what I've always wanted. The scare factor obviously isn't as strong, but it does a lot better than I expected from a hand-held Survival Horror (ha, the genre's abbreviated "SH"). My one big complaint is that it's really 1/4 of a game. You can beat it in 2 hours, and that's just not acceptable, even for a hand-held.
Some of the BEST lines came from that crazy Gillespie lady.

I liked all of the lines that came from Dahlia in the original Silent Hill game. Her lines were not that great in Silent Hill: Origins and Silent Hill film adaption.

I agree, even though it was very different from the game, it kept the feel of the series. The Core of it was the same or similar like the cult, the child (what's her name) and the visual look of both versions of the town (fog and hell like)
in other words, it did a good job paying tribute to the series while still being different enough to not just being a remake.

I hope your talking about the game . . . because the movie was a complete mockery of a sheer classic. They either replaced or changed the characters so drastically that they can not be recognized, the only exception is Cybil, who was a fairly static character throughout both the movie and the game.
The game was a brilliant, mind bending, emotional trip through the insane. Avery's script and Gan's directing were just asinine. The only thing it had going for it was the visuals.

Your talking about the intial conflict between Rose and Cybil.
I've got a lot of beef with the movie, but I don't fret the minor differences. An adaptation isn't supposed to be an exact copy of the original, nor was I expecting it to. As far as characters go, I expect them to get core personality traits right, but I don't expect ever piece of dialogue or interaction to be exact. Cybil was one of the least fleshed out characters in the game, almost a blank slate.

They could have at least had a reasoning for the monsters, or for Pyramid Head. Or kept Sharon as a guy named Harry and Rose a girl named Cheryl. Also, why did they ruin the fact that Dahlia was insane?

I feel a little sheepish for not hating SH: Origins. It deals a little bit more with Alessa, and that's really what I've always wanted. The scare factor obviously isn't as strong, but it does a lot better than I expected from a hand-held Survival Horror (ha, the genre's abbreviated "SH"). My one big complaint is that it's really 1/4 of a game. You can beat it in 2 hours, and that's just not acceptable, even for a hand-held.
Some of the BEST lines came from that crazy Gillespie lady.

@deathhound7 But it doesn't further the story of what everyone knows about Alessa, it just tells you what you already know. And the whole Lisa and Kaufmann thing didn't make sense. Also, why was Lisa bipolar? It didn't make sense for her character.
I liked all of the lines that came from Dahlia in the original Silent Hill game. Her lines were not that great in Silent Hill: Origins and Silent Hill film adaption.

I know SH didnt go by the game, but then again what movie actually followed the storyline? the movie really wasnt that bad, i consider it like a alternate version of the Sh that we know (like Shattered memories). even Though it wasnt exact, I still thought it was pretty entertaining, esp the ending where alessa got her revenge

I agree, even though it was very different from the game, it kept the feel of the series. The Core of it was the same or similar like the cult, the child (what's her name) and the visual look of both versions of the town (fog and hell like)
in other words, it did a good job paying tribute to the series while still being different enough to not just being a remake.
