why are there horrible comments on this video? I can understand that if you are homeless and are upset with this topic, but what about the whole massive program set up in Canada to start bringing down the numbers of homeless and rehabilitate them into cleaner environments :)
i aagain have to say i was once on the streets of victoria and its still home to mee i visit and i talk to soo many people out there on the street more than i doo with the "people" of vic are rude homeless people kick butt <3 much love an dgod bless
i totaly agree with this video as i am low -income single parent of 4 kids was workin but was not makin enough to pay rent as well and losing hours weekly it pushed me to quit my job after searching and searching for more work were there was not unless i had a degree of soome sort its a shame were as people i think would love to be educated as much as possible for any job they wanna do
@34gingersnaps just adding more too it and with the education like come on the goverment is tryin to push people to work but wheres the education at in all this if ya want people of welfare i suggest u let people go to school but we borrow the money to goo and have to pay it back why is soo different form grade school really i battled with keeping my job as mentions and it pushed me towards the system once again soo it becomes a cycle that never ends
The main causes of homelessness are mental illness and ruthless greed.
If you have quality care for mental health patients and rent controls to keep a roof over peoples' heads - you are part way toward a solution.
There is too much analysis of homelessness and not enough action. Talk to the people on the street and ask them what their problems are and what their needs are. They will give you solutions - some you can use and some you can't - but solutions, nonetheless.
The homeless issue in Victoria is becoming so much worse because Vancouver is shipping all of it's east hastings junkies over here! Just for the Olympics...
Victoria is full of mean assholes, and its not the homeless they are about the nicest people in victoria.
Just a bunch of silly people pretending to be things and stuff. Lame
HOmeless people should take over the whole city, people are so mad cause they paid so much for a crappy house they want to get rid of the locals that they made homeless, don't work that way suckers.
you are fucking ignorant..i lived on the streets for a year......you dont have a clue what youre talking about....go live on the streets for a while and then make your assumptions.....prick
I left for similar reasons. Victoria could be a world class city. My friend got stabbed with a needle. Another got threatened with "aids blood" if he didn't give them money. People are too nice to these zombies. They start out begging and cracking jokes, playing guitars, within a year its like a b rated zombie movie, only no one will take a blunt object to their head. People say, "They are interesting" "They are victims" Thats fine Victoria, you keep them, and good people will leave.
Part of the problem is your friend probably gave em money, so it worked and they'll do it again. Another part is that the places that help homeless people don't like to help until they get that badly addicted to drugs. The shittier of a person you are, the more you get, it seems.
I lived in Vic for a couple of years. I RAN back to Ontario afterward. Well, how can I explain my experience with the homeless in Vic? I got pushed into traffic, attacked in the park regularily on my way to school, got asked for change when I had less money than they did, dodged needles on the ground, oh, and I had a hobo use my building's front lawn as a toilet for his infected colon. Often.
Your "image" comments are a joke, when they are attacking you on your way to school ... airbrush that.
I have lived in Victoria for a year. Never been pushed into traffic, never been attacked by anyone, been asked for change maybe 3 times in a year. I have never seen a needle on the ground in a year... never. Is it possible that you are hanging out in the homeless hangouts... or with them?? Because of all my friends in Victoria, I have never heard stories like yours. Maybe you just don't know how to handle yourself in a city and get walked all over??
Also it is known that many of the homeless that come to Victoria are not from the area, and come seeking warm weather. Quite often from Quebec and Ontario, where it is much much colder. That is where you like to return because there are not homeless people, well guess where they all went? Vancouver, Victoria and the other nice warm places. We don't want Quebec and Ontario's homeless... but we get them. Heck, the people who attacked you in the park could have been your old neighbor in Ontario
I've been here for a little over a year, and I get asked for change numerous times when I'm downtown. However, I have never felt threatened by the homeless. I guess that's a good thing, since I'm pretty damn close to being in that boat with the economy and everything the way it is.
My wife and I retired to Victoria, but we left after two years. The overall poverty, lack of employment opportunitys, petty crime, and the large number of homeless people, drove us back to Ontario. The government of Victoria are just a bunch of old ignornat Conrad Black types, and they care nothing for the citizens or the homeless. That city has even squashed any ideas of constructing more subsidized housing, but promote building more golf courses for the upper crusters.
That man is an idiot!!!
