I love how in the practice session they actually worked on the synchronized dancing - something Stipe was never big on, but the B-52s loved. It was a nice melding of the two styles in this song. Too bad Stipe was so turned off on this... it is someting we will probably never see again even the result of this pairing speaks for itself.

@ucb2912 I don't think they expected it to be such a huge hit upon release of the actual single. SHP wasn't even out yet at a single when they did SNL, LMR was still a massive hit. SHP went top 10 everywhere, and I think the band simply got tired of it. I consider myself a pretty big R.E.M. fan, but I even got tired of SHP after repeated listens.

Right on about Kate Pierson, her voice is excellent and is goes so well with distinctive singers like Michael S and Iggy Pop, heck that's why the B'52's are great she's a great (and cindy W) with Fred S' voice. Though Her and Cindy on songs like Roam and Juliet (funplex) are great.

She's on a second song called Me In Honey on this album, Out of Time, that is also really great - she definately adds immensely to it.
