The main problem with the United States and it's citizens is not college or jobs, the problem is debt. America borrows for everything, school, homes, cars, furniture, everything!!!!! This obsession with borrowing and debt must stop!!! Why? Because of the global economy called GLOBALISM!!!! The only way America will have a chance to compete in the global economy is to get out of debt and stay out of debt.

College is a money making institution. Student loans are easy to get, so people get in debt first, and worry about paying later. College is a necessity for certain careers. But most jobs can be done without a degree.
@21wf Good point. Education is great, but it's getting too expensive. As long as the loans are around colleges can jack up their tuition rates. Simple economics in play. Us young people shouldn't go to college expecting a job after graduating or feel entitled to one.
College graduates never really get those entry level jobs in the first place. They are hired into jobs that are managerial in nature, almost never into the very bottom or high school level jobs. Where I work, they hire college graduates to manage people who have been at the company for many years and know the business inside out. Meanwhile, the new manager hasn't a clue about what the business is all about simply because he has a college degree. The degree isn't in the field.
What has changed between now and 40 - 50 years ago? Most people can be trained for a job by the employer., and then work their way up through the ranks to become managers. Nowadays, a college graduate is presumed to have the ability to step right into a job, and manage it like he/she has as much experience as a person who worked their way up through a business. This is unrealistic. The college graduate has no conception of what it is like to work in, or run a particular business.
actually college graduates aren't even given the chance to work from the bottom and receive training, and they are told to get that degree to have that chance to work from the bottom to get training to be able to advance in their careers. I am sorry but you are quite out of touch. What is different now is that the young just aren't given that much of a chance. Employers want those already experienced even for very basic entry-level positions that require 1 month min. of training
basic econ 101. too many people with degrees for the few jobs that actually require it. i should know i have a graduate degree but apply for GED type jobs and everything in between.
I have $88,000 in debit to pay off. I graduated in 2009. I went to a top college in Minnesota. Now I pay $950.00 per month to pay it off in a very unpleasant job. At least I have a Job. My life sucks.
A university degree now will get you the same lifestyle as a high school diploma 40 years ago. There are way too many degrees floating around out there and that dilutes the value of them.
