Most punk bands didn't project that sort of image anyway, they were just a response to the excesses of overblown 70's prog bands, and usually formed from a love of bands such as these. @Jewclops Yeah, probably, if the beatles wouldn't have done what they did somebody else would have... but, that doesn't change the fact that they did it, and therefore no matter how hard you try the Beatles will forever be britain's most celebrated band, due to their importance and their impact on modern pop and rock music...
