Groundhogs have made several messes in the woods behind my home. Big holes, piles of dirt and rocks. Plus, one dug under the wall of an old shed and came up in the middle scattering gravel all over everything inside. It was just a gravel floor so it didn't have too much trouble doing it. I throw rat poison down the holes now because they just keep coming when I am not able to watch and shoot them.

don,t underestimate the groundhog they,re extremely tough, and can be extremely agressive. when cornered they bare their large front teeth and charge! i,d rather be bit by a dog, and the bobcat probably found this out.

this is true. i shot at 1 with 2o ga. #6 3 times from 30 yards hitting it at least once. it ran up a small pine tree so i shot it again from 10-15 yards...fell out of tree. went to grab it by the tail and it tried to bite me so i said fuck you, got the .22 pistol and went gangsta and put to in his head

That's only true if you take the most short-sighted view of things.

Felidae didn't likely originate in North America, and they absolutely have not been here for all of the history of this continent. They came here, just like we did, when it was convenient for them to do so, "intruding" upon existent species as their various species spread.

As mammals, humans are not particularly helpful at present to global ecology, but we are no more "intruders", as a species, than the bobcat is.
