he had a loss of hydraulic press. due to improperly installed hyd. pump belt.he saw that the helo wasnt responding correctly and diagnosed the problem to be a tail rotor Malf.due to misdiagnosis of the problem he then began trying to fix this T/R malf.The only prob with the T/R was that it had lost hyd press & required the pilot to apply forces that are diff. than the forces required with the hyd boost.he could have flown to a nearby strip W/O hyd press at speeds of 40-60 knots.

YOu can seee the pilot had amazing control over the vehicle and almost landed it on a roof. SMart to pick a low roof, too, as it was that skill that saved them.

It was was because of wrong parts installed in the chopper that caused it to fail. Fact found out after an investigation.
It was his skills as a pilot that got them down.
