Still my favorite arcade title. The ports don't do it justice. The music, enemy placement, control, and coloring are all done to perfection in the original game.
@verasloane I know man. It's addicting as hell until at least level 6 as you keep wanting to see what the next added stage is going to be in that next cycle.
@JohnnyElsewhereTV I know man I would like one as well. They're just so damn expensive and I'm going to wait until I have a house so I don't have to worry about transporting the thing the way the economy is going with rent being so unpredictable.
I was recently offered one of these for $200 and a Mrs Pacman table top for $300. I was gonna ask you if this was a good deal. But it doesnt really matter cause I cant really afford it right now. :(
Great video, Gamester! My dream arcade cabinet would be Centipede. I had a ton of fun playing then as a kid and would love to own one. Maybe, even a Millipede cab to go right next to it, hehe. =)
Keep doing what your doing, I love your videos cause you talk about more then just the gameplay, you give a whole history lesson, I like it, keep it up!
Amazing. I love Donkey Kong in any form (arcade or otherwise) and your review was pretty complete. I haven't seen a lot of reviews of the arcade version of the game!!
Glad you were able to pick this up and I gotta say that in the beginning of your video it almost seemed like you were doing a commercial for Goo Gone!
They just released the new updated NES'version on the Red Anniversary Wii in Europe, How about an arcade perfect version on the virtual console Nintendo?
Sweet score John. I'll be going to the Kong Off in March, sounds like it's going to be a packed house.
You plan on picking up the Donkey Kong II Jumpman Returns upgrade chip? It's well worth it. It even adds in freeplay mode so you don't need to constantly open up the coin door. I spoke to the designer, Jeff at Funspot and he's a really great guy and the game is REALLY challenging.
That cab looks to be in super condition even though you mentioned it was played around with. and for the price you paid i would have snapped it up to. excellent review John, i can never get enough of seeing videos based on this classic video game.
there is a two player sit down cab for Dr. Mario at my local bowling alley i seen last night. They want $300 for it. I played it and it plays fine but im not that crazy about Dr. Mario. Still not sure about it, maybe if it was half the price.
I have the gameboy Donkey Kong game, and there you also have the 4 arcade levels, including the 'pie' factory. Followed by Donkey Kong Jr.-like levels. Loved it when I was a kid.
I like games, but I lack the self-discipline to play the games of ol'. After ten minutes they'd bore the hell out of me! And I probably would've died a gazillion times by then. XD
I used the Donkey Kong for the first time at R3play last year, found it easier than I thought it was going to be, but still did not get a huge score lol :o)
The fireballs on the stage are not random, just stand on one side; until they pop out. Hard as hell but love it.
