Justin started using the stingray (as you can hear in H. and forty six and two) but switched to the Wals under recommendation because they had a lot more midrange :). so yes that is paul in the video

Compare it to a car, no matter how good the driver is he is not going to go 200 miles per hour on a 8 hp-850 rpm. Equally, no matter how good the guitarist he is not going to be able to maintain a think lasting sound with a shitty Squier strat.

I'm glad they were able to bounce back, it's hard to be intimately involved with a fellow band member without ruining the band.
