  • Im so glad this didnt happen in england

  • I am in animal rescue and have been for quite some time. I know that spaying and neutering pets can save lives, but the fact is that mandatory spay and neuter laws just don't work. There are people who only have one cat or one dog who are on a fixxed income and can't afford to get it done and as a result, would get fined and the animal impounded and then murdered in the shelters. If you want to help the pet population, then offer free or low cost spay/neuters and not mandatory S/N laws.

  • @LDC454 That is what i am thinking but it is so good to hear from someone in the field who has been there..thanks

  • Why would it get rid of: Pets like buddy ??

  • We have similair laws in Australia. It cost heaps to register an undesexed dog and is illigal to buy a cat that isnt desexed unless you are a registered breeder. It's fantastic. We have less strays and less kitens/puppies dumped.

  • I support this bill too! Get a clue people we have been euthanizing healthy animals for over 100 years. Its sad but true that people are just NOT going to do the right thing unless they are forced. I wish it wasnt that way but it is and it is always the animals who pay the price for selfish and irresponsible humans.

  • Okay, to start do you have any pets? Have you made a bond with any individual animal? If so what has that animal given you?

  • No one who's has to assist in the euthanization of thousands of animals annually due to extreme pet overpopulation would EVER oppose this bill.

  • I support this bill. A few people abandoned animals because of it?

How about the MILLIONS OF ANIMALS that are put to sleep every year because of pet overpopulation?!

    Pass the bill. Everywhere.

  • Why should non-moronic people who can contain their unaltered pets be punished for the actions of others?

We could save the lives of many children if we banned private swimming pools too.

    It doesn't make it right.

Most people get their pets fixed anyway. There isn't a pet "overpopulation" problem, its a retention problem. Forced sterilization will not prevent people from getting bored of their pet and dumping it.

  • What a laughable statement. Why do you think so many people dump animals? Because they're too stupid to get their animals fixed, and so they breed continuously. Forced sterilzation means not nearly so many animals will exist in the first place.

  • @eljagg01 You are ridiculous.

  • @TheSolaceDream Nice refutation. Any other gems of wisdom?

  • From the sound of this bill, I personally agree, don't blame the bill, blame the 1000's of people that let their animals breed unconditionally, willy nilly, blame the people that abuse their animals. these are the people that are making this bill a reality, if we all took responsibility, and did the right thing by de-sexing and looking after them, then this bill may have never come in to Existence blame the abusers not the law makers

  • My cat came from a box of kittens someone abandoned in the middle of the road.

People need to be more responsible. We are pet owners. It's our responsibility to care for our pets properly.

Not mutilate them because we're ignorant or lazy.

    What's next? Sterilize poor people?

  • Oh for the love of- Think of all the dogs in Shelters that will be killed today! For god's sake, go to a animal shelter it's not that hard! Like your stupid Brussels Griffon is gonna win best in show!

  • This video is rediculous. All service dogs and LICENSED breeders can still breed. The only breeders against this bill are backyard breeders that don't want to get a business license and pay taxes. REAL breeders are for this bill.

  • @doglovingal I totally agree with you. This bill also helps to stop that underground breeding of sick and disformed dogs.

  • @Alishondra

how? If it's underground, it won't hurt them. just like how AETA won't stop the ALF from doing their terrorism

  • No on AB 1634! This bill is ludicrous. It will only destroy legitimate breeders and will solve NOTHING with criminals, unscrupulous breeders or the strays in the city. To even conjure up a bill like this is appalling and reckless. You may listen to the audio of the Senate Hearing dated July 11, 2007 at celestialpets com.

  • Other states with Mandatory Spay/Neuter laws have had the OPPOSITE happen; INCREASED shelter deaths and intakes and a DECREASE in pet licensing and vaccinating.

  • When I was out of work I made sure I had them spayed/ neutered, vaccinated and reg'd. : if YOU can not afford to spay/neuter your pet or vaccinate and liceance them, 3 words "don't have one" it's as simple as that.

  • @vonedel

oh? so you're saying that only people who can afford those are allowed to have pets?

  • @TheChoujinVirus Basically YES dont have the money, dont own an animal FULL STOP!.....

  • NO ON AB1634!

  • NO on 1634!! This is a very wrong bill and will only affect the wrong people. This cannot happen! Pets now, and what next? WHo is to decide how to restrict any part of our lives? Make a stand now, to protect our future!

  • This is COMPLETELY TRUE, so NO ON 1634!!!

  • AB 1634 would block the very people who should be the ones breeding quality puppies. If this bill passes, it will actually cause an INCREASE in animals surrendered to shelters or picked up off the streets.

    Carol Owens

  • EXCELLENT!!

  • A lady down the street has 9 mostly outdoor cats. You will never get a cent from her in fines. She'd drop them at a shelter. Right now she has dozens of kittens and 'free kittens' signs up. She asked on spay neuter and the bill was two grand. 1634 will not stop her. Low cost spay neuter will. Get a clue. This is one expensive piece of legislation aimed at the wrong targets. Oh, none of those cats has ever seen a vet or a rabies shot.

  • AB1634 is so misguided. The government should not be making decisions that should be made by the pet's owner and their veterinarian. The legislatures need to dump this bill immediately. GREAT AD!

  • Excellent video. AB1634 is a terrible bill. That is why we have fought so hard to defeat it. On July 11th, Wednesday, five California State Senators will vote on AB1634. We urge them to VOTE NO ON AB1634.

  • We have a similar law in my county. Guess what? Nobody that breeds dogs stopped breeding or complained about the regulation and our number of unwanted pets went down! Pass the bill!

  • And I'm guessing you're a member of PETA... Especially since you joined this site 2 days after this video was posted.

  • While spaying or neutering is a good thing... I don't believe the goverment has the right or privilage to tell me when and to whom. AB1634 needs to be erased and hopefully forgotten.

  • Good ad. Laws like AB 1634 do not work. There are better solutions.

  • Fabulous.buy from a reputable breeder.one you can trust and who has references.Caveat Emptor. those of you who buy from the parking lot at wal mart or from pet stores get what you are looking for, a quick "fix" . those are the dogs that end up at shelters..THINK before you buy any dog or cat.. a puppy or kitten is NOT a "birthday present" or a "Christmas gift".. it is forever.. Never buy a pet as an unknown gift and always buy from a local breeder or someone who is recommended to you

  • Great video! This Bill is founded on false numbers and misguided ideas. I know several families that wanted to adopt dogs from rescue organizations only to be told there are too many people wanting good dogs and not enough dogs to be found. The pound dogs are mostly either sick or vicious. The sweet ones always have a waiting list of people to adopt them. AB1634 just doesn't hit the mark. No matter where the dogs and cats come from, there will always be irresponsible people.

  • where do YOU live? I have adopted four shelter dogs in the last few years and taken them home the day of my first visit. it always breaks my heart that seem to be DOZENS more that need homes, and probably will be put to death.

  • @qnwoof where the hell do you live?!??! i follow a few local shelters in the area and soo many potential good pets are put down because not enough people want them. rescues in my area are constantly struggling to take animals out of the shelters because where i live, we are over flowing. if only the rest of the world was like where you lived!

  • what about all the poor dogs and cats that are "euthanized" every year because there is no place on the earth for them, in the eyes of humanity and governments. I think sterilization is ok if it leads to the end of this institutionalized murder. People should also not buy dogs or cats, but rescue them from the myriads of poor unwanted souls in "shelters."

  • This bill is NOT the way to reduce the numbers of animals in shelters. Educating the people who adopt or purchase animals is the only way to reduce those numbers. I advocate spay and neuter but not enforced by additional government dictates. It should be done at a time that is determined to be appropriate by the owner and their veterinarian as appropriate for the specific animal.

  • The point is "who" decides which aninals 'have' to be sterilized. Remember it was a goverment agency that sterilized (without consent) people it deemed 'retarded'. What's the difference other than 2 more legs?

  • AB 1634 needs to be defeated in any form. It is a bad bill and should not be supported if they amended it til the cows came home.

The CVMA have dropped their support of the bill while USA Today signed inopposition today.

    No on AB 1634

  • Short and sweet and says exactly what needs to be said! Good job!

  • AB1634 is definitely a "MISGUIDED OVERREACH" that must be defeated in its present form! Tell your lawmakers to vote NO!!

  • Perfect!
