its called over drive. when you see those parts that come up and there arent any notes, but bars, you can hit all those notes and then hit the green button, or pad, which is the symbol that activates the overdrive.

I walked into a BB one day, and started playing it, and this dude who had been playing 7 years on drums took up the RB drums. We played Tom Sawyer. He hit 87%.

This was the first time he had ever played the game in his life.
