Great video. I went there around this same time and was probably the same age as these kids. I remember thats all I wanted to do the whole time I was over there.
I was just thinking about Sega World I used to love going there as a kid it was fucking amazing, Thought i would see if anyone has uploaded anything and shur enough there is stuff, thanks. I miss the 90s good old day. What they done to Sega world is like what they done at chessington theme park with the Bubble works ride, now its some soap ride, very similar but different, not the same memories .
@RiseOfPotatoSalad Yeah. Very true. Thankfully, after Sonic Colors success, and Sonic Generations HUGE success on being the most pre-ordered game of the year, Sonic is coming back strong! :)
Of all the times I've walked into Funland i always used to say, it's the closest thing to Sega Park, and i got a strange feeling from the place of when i used to go to a sega park years ago when i was young, then i come on here an find out it was actually a Sega World once.... Well....... Jesus Christ might i say :O
I always wanted to go, my uncle went and he got me a sonic teddy and a leather sega football, i still have the teddy. I even dreamt of going here when i was a kid and i had a master system II. But i lived in manchester and it was too far. I wish sega would come back like they used to be, and why has sony, MS or nintendo made a theme park? or atleast have a gaming themed park and you could have a ms, ps, ninty, sega etc section? it would be great advertising.
they should have made segaword in the us.Sonic was very popular over here too you know.Too bad sega world never existed here. And also it sucks i was born when this place was not in use or closed i dont know
Too bad Sega World is in UK and AU, i live in the US, and i wasn't born in the 90's. Insted of Sega World we get Disneyland, Six Flags, Cedar Point, Kings Island, Kennywood, Hersheypark, Knott's Berry Farm, Busch Gardens, Sea World, But Not Sega World :(
I accidently stumbled across this place last year when I went to the Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Grand Emporium in Piccadilly Circus, I had heard about it before from friends and I really wanted to take a look. When I got there I saw the giant escalator blocked off by a PEPSI vending machine and it was really upsetting seeing something of such great repute abused and covered in rubbish and several used syringes.
believe it or not but theres actually one of these in dubai they were building it when i went on holiday there a couple of years ago. its got most of the same stuff from segaworld
I was up there last week for the first time in ages. It's a complete dump now unfortunately. The old rocket escalator up to sega world is blocked off by a vending machine. I believe they are going to turn the trocadero into a "pod hotel" or something.
i remember this place it was quite a laff them oldskool arcade games that motorbike one forgot the name of it and that big ride in the middle that used to shoot up and shoot back down gud old days
I'll mainly remember the epic Daytona linked machines with live video feeds. And the only place I ever saw the trackball controlled SEGASONIC and Sonic the Fighters arcade machines!
I have been to this place, only once. And it was at October 1996. I was there too. Who can tell me how this looks today? Does this 'underworld' still exists? As I remember it was somewhere below Piccadilly Circus ???
It looks similar, although less bright and no neon lighting. It would not excite children as much, but the video games etc are still pretty good, its the place to go to play the new street fighter or the new tekken etc. But it will never have the name appeal that Sonic had back in his days
@Snowwie888 I just came back from london. Basically, the big escilator has been blocked off with a coke machine, and all the lights above the floor with that enterance are turned off. There's no signs, etc its all stripped. Below that, It's still a popular arcade with all the latest sega machines as well as the classics, (theres about 15 daytona usas across 2 floors). And a Cinema, but theres no rides. I think there might be dodgems but I wasn't there for too long.
Good times... funland is ok, but the place just looks so run down, if only SEGA could have predicted the return to popularity of Sonic.. The two upper decks are closed off and used as studio space, such a waste...
Im Mad Becuse I live At Chacago And I want This Place At Chacago Clevland Ohio Austraila Im Mad dis Place is Gone!!! I never Went here Cuz i Didnot know Sega At the time! Mad face
"Buy the Funland back and bring Sega World back to the UK. You had one of the best indoor amusement parks and you gave it all away for money. Bring back Sega World you tits, thats the way to get you back on top of the gaming industry."
I went there when I was about.. 7 or 8 in the late 90's, I think it was just about to shut down.. all the rides were switched off, but it was still a really awesome place :D
It is sad to see this place like it is today. Kids of today don't really recognise sega anymore. Because of sega's demise Nintendo should buy that place and turn it into a Nintendo World like the one in new york.
I remember SEGAWORLD. Oh the memories that came flooding back when seeing this captured footage. I remember the haunted house ride the bumper car shooting thing! man, to think at the time when that felt state-of-the-art. Almost forgot the many floors dedicated to the arcade games.
It's a shame I was only 6 when this place was open and I didn't visit the centre of London much. It's odd how 9 years after it's closeure, they've done nothing with the 3 or so floors at the top of the Trocadero. It's like a whole section of a building not being used! The new owners are rumoured to be regenerating the whole centre though...
they're MANIACS! THEY CLOSED IT DOWN! DAMN THEM! DAMN THEM ALL TO HELL! the simulator floor is gone and it used to be like 6 floors now its only 3-4 i really miss going there..
yeh.. it really sucks.. they closed it because sega was losing major money because of it..so they had to sell it.. its KINDA still there.. the cool escalator is still there.. but the escalator to arcade heaven.. is blocked off..
Really wanted to go there when it was first opened but mother as always refused (since it cost money to get in) But when it became free, I just went there loads. Was rather upset to hear later on that it closed =( Oh well...things can't last forever ^^; Nice vid btw
Nooooo don't tell me it closed. :( I'm going to London next week and I was looking forward to visiting this place again... So what is there now instead of Sega World?
It Closed In 2000 MAN I want To Go to londan Jump over That Vendin Mahcine And Just Play Sega Saturn Cuz im broke NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
i cry in side because i never had the lucshory of going there! I took one visit to SEGA World, then when i went a 2nd time I went it had become funland, I literally shed a tear because on the wall, I could see the sillhouette of where a Sonic picture was once on the wall..

@KiteTh
It wasn't Sega that let it fall, it was all o' y'all!
It took millions of dollars for Sega to invest in Sega World, but not enough people (that would be you, the public) came.
There just wasn't enough business and thus, it b-came a giant money pit; had Sega held onto it, they would've gone bankrupt.
And then where would Sonic be? That's right, in oblivion. It's the law of economics, dude!
