The common factor in gulf war syndrome was not where the soldiers were sent but whether they were vaccinated or not. The french didn't get GWS because they weren't vaccinated, at least not by the same stuff the US and British were (who did indeed get GWS).

The "too many, too soon" argument and the supposed link between vaccines and Gulf War syndrome have no scientific basis. Vaccines have been shown to have no serious side effects for the general population. Ron Paul clearly does not understand herd immunity, and the incomplete effectiveness of vaccines. But, no matter; Ron Paul is by far the best presidential candidate in this race, and we can criticize him for his views after he drops out or becomes president.

That is why we have vaccines; to keep disease from spreading and to get a weaker, less risky, immune response.
@againstThe other thing is that we are not talking about the day to day pathogens like a cold. We are talking about deadly diseases. Genetic immunity builds up over generations because those with particular genetics survive the disease to multiply while those who didn't have them did not. Now however, the vast majority of the children survive to reproduce, which hinders this type of population immunity. So do we just let these kids die or do we prevent the diseases?

Does Ron Paul know that 80% of Polio cases had been reduced PRIOR to the so-called Vaccine? It depends on what your definition of "extremely rare exceptions" is. Hundreds of people in the US alone died from it yearly, and ten thousand+ people a year were hospitalized due to it. How many people have to die or suffer from a disease for you to care? Genetic immunity builds up over generations because those with particular genetics survive the disease to multiply while those who didn't have them did not. Dr. Paul, eventhough viruses are technically not alive, they evolve quite nicely and are capable of jumping species. Having immunity to emerging viruses has saved countless lives, all on account of virologists(MDs like yourself who are not hypocritical like yourself) doing their jobs. I would be interested to hear your take on the chicken pox vaccine and why you feel it's so vital that kids be vaccinated for something that is historically harmless (with extremely rare exceptions).

As to Dr. Paul's position, unsavory. He is on record for trashing the process of Evolution. That in itself gives me great pause and concern for his sanity level.

It depends on what your definition of "extremely rare exceptions" is. Hundreds of people in the US alone died from it yearly, and ten thousand+ people a year were hospitalized due to it. How many people have to die or suffer from a disease for you to care?
