I myself don't have any preference to skin color, but I will describe my situation that may answer your question. I'm white with blue eyes and brown hair, but my family is also Mexican (don't look it, but I am). Whenever people find that out, they treat me COMPLETELY differently as if I'm a different person. This has been the case my whole life. So it's not just about skin tones. I look completely white. People have preconceived biases and they use whatever they can to judge. It's harsh for us.

I wish i was white, not just white but a good looking white person like Brad Pitt, Chace Crawford, etc. But in the end, we have no control of it and we gotta deal with it.

Tanish skin seems like it's "more acceptable" in society now so ppl either bleach or tan themselves if they're not happy with what they got.

I was proving a point that colorism is everywhere. Old ppl promote colorism & they don't even know it. My old aunt that looks almost white always has something negative 2 say about dark skinned ppl. She talks about how she raised her 3 step kids & how they where so black & ugly with nappy hair. Then she talks about them for having white mates. What should she expect when she broke down their self esteem by calling them nappy head tar babies when they where little.

Well, it is very possible to have siblings of different shades. Im sort of brown skinned and my brother is light skinned, then my dad is alittle darker than me and my mom is around the same shade as my brother but I think very slightly darker.

But the features straight hair small nose are more european. Light skin means nothing features are the difference. 1. Hispanics have predominately amerindian (native american) ancestry.
2. Latino/Latina is not a race. People that are considered Far Eastern based on phenotype born in Latin America are Latino(a).
3. No such thing as european nose, lips, hair, etc. If that's the case then indigenous far easterners i.e. Japan, China, etc would be european also. They have straight hair, small like nose, etc.
4. African is a very diverse continent with plenty of black cultures with no admixture whatsoever. And plenty of these cultures have phenotype features that the vast majority ignorantly label as european. And yes, there are CAUCASIANS with HUGE NOSES.
5. FINALLY, Being black is determined by LINEAGE. Doesn't have squat to do with phenotype. Facial structures are universal.

Better? this is the wrong word. There are many shades of skin colour which have evolved to be best equiped for their environment. The hotter the country the darker the skin basically. I suppose in one way black people have the advantage of being able to adapt in hot and cold weather wheras very white people get very burnt in hot weather. Most white people can choose if they want to be really white or tanned giving them an option wheras black people have to always be black.

My mothers is light skinned my dad was dark skinned and they were both beautiful. my brother and i came out medium brown. and all the light, dark and medium skin in my household was and is a beautiful thing. my daughter is dark and she is very beautiful. she is just as beautiful as a light skinned child. my family have all kind of tones from the darkest to the lightest and they are ALL BEAUTIFUL.

As a black guy myself i totally agree with what you said...Its just that you feel its going to be better for your children and you don't want them to go through what you had to go through. But there is a dark skin woman that i really liked and even though i didn't want to date her i still did...so i don't know!

people really make a big deal out of really dark people. They really dont say n e thing about really light people, not even bout the ones that LOOK white. I thought that, by now, tone shouldnt b a big deal wit people, but 2 me, it seems like it's gettin worse! I mean OOOGLY light females wud get plenty play , b 4 a real pretty dark 1 wud. dey dont even have 2 b all dat light either, but, the lightest 1 out of all of em n a group wud get the most attn, thye wud get all "good" compliments.

Better? this is the wrong word. There are many shades of skin colour which have evolved to be best equiped for their environment. The hotter the country the darker the skin basically. I suppose in one way black people have the advantage of being able to adapt in hot and cold weather wheras very white people get very burnt in hot weather. Most white people can choose if they want to be really white or tanned giving them an option wheras black people have to always be black.

Thats a silly question when you know very well thats the case. This is white America where "generally" the people in power are white and they feel more comfortable dealing with people who look more like them. "Lighter in complexion" Its natural for people to feel that way. The problems come in when people start trying to justify their feelings with derogatory statements stereotypes. Yes light skin people generally get treated without so much racism as compared to darker skin people.

It Looks brown to me! Then you get dark from the sun! Nice to be protected from the elements. Why does it matter who is light or dark skinned any way because your skin was made to get dark, if it were not, you would have no melanin like an albino or very little like some caucasians.

im just sayin when europeans stepped on African soil most of all they saw were darkskin blacks (apart from egypt,libya) thats a whole another story hence why they called us *negros* which just means black in spanish/portuguese.. if not we wouldv been called *marrón* which means brown.. so people need to acknowledge darkskin black is the original skin tone of the blak people coz yes black people back then were really dark.. even if im not im still proud of my tone for being kinda close to theirs

I agree, I saw this particular episode of tyra last year. I didnt consider the chick on there who was ranting about being light skinned, light at all!! I was like, "WTF sweetie you are not even light skinned"? Also why do people consider people like ciara and Sanaa Lathan 'redbones or light skinned' ?? I would consider them like med brown to caramel type complexion.

I love the skin I am in. You can take IT or you can leave it , but i can't depart from it. My mothers is light skinned my dad was dark skinned and they were both beautiful. my brother and i came out medium brown. and all the light, dark and medium skin in my household was and is a beautiful thing. my daughter is dark and she is very beautiful. she is just as beautiful as a light skinned child. my family have all kind of tones from the darkest to the lightest and they are ALL BEAUTIFUL.
