  • This song is amazing! At 2:22 The guy on the vibraphone looks SO nervous! He is DETERMINED not to screw up! hahaha

  • these guys are Britain's house band, down to earth and write amazing songs and cross all ages, my fathers 78 and he loves them, my american girlfriend was blown away when I told her to listen to them, shes can't believe their relativley unknown outside the UK.

  • @CarlosTilbury They've been in the music industry for over 40 years and have only recently come into the lime light, they're amazing, I saw them before they got famous because they were on tour with Orson (If anyone remembers them) And I fell in love with them

  • if music was an olympic event these guys would win gold next year

  • chilling..awesome...goosebumps....can't wait to see them live next March.

  • Its not about Coldplay vs Elbow. Its about the music they both play and how much they mean to you as an individual, not as someone who tries to convince the next person one band is better than the next.Stop comparing both bands for fuk sake..They are different....They are both good.Eblow rules.haha

  • @ben5r the wonderful thing about music is there is no "better" and nobody is the "winner"!

  • This is an amazing song

  • Nice to see/hear a band that are genuinely really good, unlike the majority of pretentious talentless posers that are on "the scene" these days.

  • ......they should compose the next James Bond theme soundtrack!.....Pure British excellence in a class of their own!.....xx

  • This song always gets me everytime, whether from the album or listening live.....Guy's voice is faultless and very moving....

  • I am 62 years old en never heard better in my whole live

  • prefect weather to fly!

  • Had to check it out again to see if it was that good !

    It was !

  • Causes internal movement !

  • Unbelievably good !

  • dude at 1:55.. you can tell he's like man...I'm so happy I am here right now.

  • everyone there has more talent than 5 Justin Biebers

  • Such an amazing beautiful song... Just saw them life last week on Lowlands and going to see them again in November!!!

  • <3

  • 5 people didn't have the time of their lives....

  • who's coldplay?

  • Just got home from their Hong Kong concert. Amazing... What a singer!

  • I only know I love them.

  • Saw them live in my hometown. Absolutely amazing band, shame their new album isn't that great, but then their last album was a masterpiece, it would be unfair to expect them to match or best it, few musicians ever will.

  • @gazornonplat Build a Rocket Boys! is a fantastic album - Seldom Seen Kid set the bar too high - it should be used as the yard stick for perfection from here on out. If any band makes a perfect record you could say they created a Seldom Seen Kid! But I LOVE Build a Rocket Boys!

  • m. a. g. i. c. a. l. painted some painting listening to this

  • Goose bumps... Sounds like a joyfull nostalgia to me...

  • I lived in England during the years when this band came out, I realized I was witnessing the birth of the most inspired band of the last 20 years,

I grew up with bands like Talk Talk and I must say I find the same poetry, i'm sure Elbow would love songs like "New Grass".LOVE

  • For the most part, the people commenting on this song are knob heads, trying desperately to sound intelligent and witty and it hasn't worked. Those of you that just wish to listen to an amazing song have come to the right place though!

This song is the only song the band claim to have ever written about themselves. This is the song that, when playing live, they obviously enjoy playing the most. That makes me love it.

  • The bass line in this song is superbly crafted.

  • Can any of you (my fellow Elbow fans) shed any light on my video. Enter Slow Ahead, its a song they done on a live accoustics session for napster, beautiful song but it ain't on any of their studio albums or ep's.

  • @dvarick You mean "a harmonic progression" not "an armonic progression"... One refers to the sequence of chords or "harmony" the song follows, common in almost all music. The other is gibberish a clueless person might spew when pretending to know something about music.

  • @sgarapolo Or maybe just s typo.

  • Amazing song!!!!

  • @dvarick. anyone with half a brain knew that ChannelFavorite was referencing some "industry formula for instant succes and popularity" promoted by executives looking to make money. No one needed your clarification ya prick. Why do people like you insist on openeing your mouth when it needn't be opened? You and your self-approving tone can piss off.

  • This song was just amazing performed live in Dublin night before last. One of the highlights of the concert for me!

  • THIS IS TOO BEAUTIFUL IM GONNA CRY :'(

  • My favorite track from SSK but I have to say I don't like this version. It feels like it is faster. It doesn't give me that "floating" feeling the original gives me :\

  • @frogstreet ..and even more to make you interesting I'm sure.

  • @frogstreet Seriously you must be tone deaf and have NO soul, this is class mate

  • elbow r the bollox

  • i wish we had more of this music. so refreshing. hats off to you Elbow

  • @hookydoughy, truer words can not be written!!!this is one of those very rare things nowadays, an album that is actually better when listened right through with no interruptions, and yet full of songs that can be enjoyed at any point on their own.

  • For all those Elbow fans...check out Frederik Teige......cut from the same brilliant cloth.

  • I never ever get tired listening to the whole album, as 1 piece of work, as I drive up and down the country, truly timeless.

  • 4 dislikes? some people are fucking morons.

  • Finest song ever.

  • Beer to the left at :45?

  • @Afrojitsu becks i think!

  • Just a beautiful record and a stunning performance. Poss favourite track from TSSK.

  • Elbow > Coldplay by miles

  • @Jobizzie Coldplay are better anyday mate, elbow are good but chris martin wins by far

  • What a tune!What a band!Wicked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • teses guys are awesome

  • I thought he sang it a bit fast to be honest

  • @rorymorris1 Yea I got the feeling its a lil faster

  • That was one of the most glorious performances I've ever seen.

  • Its just hip hop without the violence and intimidation.

  • @blobby1972 that's dumb, seriusly

  • @KEPHALLE I respect your opinion .

  • If you like music like Elbow, I just found this band called Forgonia.

They have an album coming out soon, but a couple of their tracks are available for free at forgonia.bandcamp.com

    Should definitely check 'em out!!

  • Death to the two people who didn't like this.

  • @fraseyboy1 - That's a bit harsh M8, those 2(+2) must be suffering enough already not to see the beauty in this track. I think they need must help not condemnation.

  • what a band!! Now i just need to listen OK Computer with the BBC Orchestra....

  • @eldientedemaiz wait what - there is a bbc orchestra video of Ok Computer??? :D

  • Easily the best and most professional live band I have ever seen,.... and it was Wolverhampton when it should have been the NIA. Who said life should be fair? Lady GaGa?

  • He sings with such intense gentleness... :-) Love the orchestra and the band together,,,.. what it must have felt like to them... being surrounded by an ocean of their cherished music.. overwhelmingly beautiful.

  • been around for ages and been listening to them since then then. what a brilliant band

  • Elbow + doves = best bands in the universe. Piss all over "the pretentious ones."

  • WOW I just love this song, I bought the Cd just on the strength of this and what a great CD it is

Love his voice, love the words, love the music. PERFECTxxx

  • I'm liking these more and more! X x

  • am I the only one who sees the striking resemblance between guy garvey and stephen fry?

  • Yes. XD

  • No.

  • nooo, i noticed that as well! in the Grounds for Divorce video!

  • @papernicolas3 I think he looks more like Charlie Brooker, at least in this video

  • Respect.

  • A beautiful performance of an extraordinarily beautiful song! I love how sweet he sounds when he sings, "Are we having the time of our lives?" Makes you want to answer, "Yessssss!" even if we AREN'T having the time of our lives! Simply gorgeous! <3

  • Que gran banda... saludos desde Chile

  • @ferletel 2 saludos desde Chile =D

  • Amazing. Amazing. Amazing.

  • elbow are one of the few bands that give be shivers all over my body... and i normally don't like 'guitar bands'

  • totally unflawed.u cannot get better than this

  • i look at this in amazement with the love power and energy he sings this song with absoultely brilliant talent

  • this song brings out your emotions its a very sad song but i love it and that is real talent

  • Im glad to be alive : )

  • Really beautiful music. I enjoyed listening.

  • really amazing!

their music touch to people's heart!

  • totaly

  • Anyone know what the story is on the drummer's (Richard Jupp) drums always having writing on them? I've noticed this in all the videos of their live shows and I've never heard any comment on it. Just curious.

    Anyone? Bueller?

  • HI Mate, they are cues that he writes to himself, usually when they have re worked a tune.

    Hope that help bud:)

  • magical.....

  • in awe always. the band is flawless.

  • Really good, but he sounds like his throat is really dry.

  • it probably is, wouldn't you be nervous? :P

  • was hooked since d coldplay concert too!!!! wot a truly amazing band!!!! just adore dem already!!!

  • fuck coldplay

  • I am SO hooked.

  • These guys opened for Coldplay and I must say I was floored by their ability and charisma on stage, they should have had Coldplay open for them. Elbow is not formulaic or contrived. They have not chosen uniforms to market their message, only some mates writing deeply poetic lyrics with a every flavor musical adornment possible.

  • Weren't you lucky, ChannelFavorite! I saw Coldplay live last month (in Holland that is) and some band called White Leaf or so opened for them. I was not impressed! And I had so so so hoped that Elbow would be there... alas, I was disappointed. Hopefully I will have the chance to see them live someday soon.

  • There might have been a band called White Leaf there but the main support band @ Elbow's Dutch gig in the park were The Flaming Lips. Excellent band and as defiantly non-conformist as Elbow but in a much more psychedelic vein.

  • couldnt put it better m8 i am mainly into electronic music drum n bass etc but the first time i heard elbow their innovative quality stood out a mile pure british talent maybe someone should tell simon cowell about them pfffff lol

  • lol that shallow fucker Cowel would probably tell guy garvey to fuck off for being a bit overweight. if ya aint taking teen girls pocket money for him..he wouldnt wanna know. and dont get me started on that Louis Walsh turd....rahhhh!

  • ps... tink u were dead rite!!!!!!

  • @ChannelFavorite

    because u understand musc !

  • @ChannelFavorite You didnt know what formulaic is, it means that they use an armonic progression in each of their songs, which they do. Before doing a comment you should research more.

  • @dvarick Well it would not be the first time nor will it be the last, but bellyaching about my perfect use of english?

  • @ChannelFavorite History has an interesting way of remembering things. I wouldn't be surprised if 20 years from now Coldplay is a footnote and Elbow is the real story.

  • Beautiful.

  • Yes the whole CD and the whole video are on the dish :) its a really good one

  • 1 helluva tune

  • Does anyone know if they put this whole show on a CD?

  • They have a box set or something like that you can buy from their site, or amazon I think.

  • avaliabke from hmv website you get the concert as a bonus disc ,just ordered mine!

  • One of the most gorgeous tracks from the CD. Guy's lyrics are truly mesmerising. As a writer of poetry I can only hope to write something quite as beautiful one day.

  • puressence are the most overlooked band ever! class tune this though

  • the most overlooked band ever. Fucking amazing!!!

  • Priceless stuff.

The cd originally took some getting into, but once I got into listening to what I had considered 'out of my comfort zone' the cd completely had me. I purchased it a month ago and it has not left my cd player since. Truly awesome musicians and Guys lyrics are spellbinding.

  • This band is truly indescribable, even though I keep trying! How can they be so good? I cannot think of a single Elbow song I don't like. Guy Garvey is just amazing. Here's this phenomenal voice coming out of this dude, looks like a linebacker. And his lyrics, don't even get me started. I think Elbow struck some sort of Faustian deal or something. I just hope they don't get U2 or Coldplay popular. Ever.

  • MAGICAL !!!

  • pure beauty and endless depth martoftonbridge

  • No words can do this justice, but I'll give it a try: AMAZING.

  • sorry dude pressed the wrong thumb you perfectly right elbow are mindblowingly exellent and beyond

  • Absolutely divine!

If there is a heaven, this would be the song that you would hear in all its glory as you entered through the golden gates.

  • What a magical voice

  • Awesome...

  • Beautiful. I adore this song.

  • Where can I get this version? I just have the normal track/.

  • It's from the dvd/cd box set with the BBC orchestra at Abbey Road.

  • Guy has a voice like no other... and I thought the high voice was a woman :-)

    More like this plz

  • My favourite on this album. Beautiful.

  • MUSIC GEEK ALERT: I love how the cellos use the pizzacato effect in this song!

  • lol i talk like that all the time. people hate it

  • It's pizzicato.

  • put in simple terms..this is pure music..a joy..thank you Elbow...x..x

  • is this song about going mushroom picking?

  • look at the eye contact - they know they summed it up - i did, we now live in bulgaria with real people.btw guys voice gets better

  • This concert, and Radiohead at Glastonbury 2003 are the best live performances ever.

  • There are no words!

  • Turn up the VOLUME then.

  • I think you misunderstood me,I am saying there are no words to describe what an incredible song this is. matter of fact it is the ringtone on my phone!!

  • is the ringtone good?

  • always brings a smile to my face!!!

  • Music doesn't get much better than this.... stunning

  • absolutly inspiring

  • This is even more beautiful than 'One Day Like This' - I have listened to the album so much but still get shivers every time. I only sorry i've not been listening to them for years but i'm happy i've found them now. It's the start of a beautiful relationship!

  • yeah i bought asleep in the back when it came out, but it doesnt matter how you stumble on them. the main thing is you did!!

  • same as, I had a cd of theirs what i still haven't listened to, but this album just blew me away, can't wait to see them

  • i can't stop listening to this song i love it

    well done elbow

  • think i've just found the song of the year for me,it's beautiful i love it

    great vocals

  • Rather delicious. Want seconds. A bit special these Northern Monkeys aren't they?

Listen up. It doesn't get better than this. Aspire to this level of musical feeling, integrity and passion. The rest of the current crop of 'hit' bands ought to be ashamed...........

  • wudnt call them a hit, id say theyre majorly underated

  • That's just it. They've finally become a "hit". It stuns me that pretty much all of the music press has raved about them for ten years and in that time they acquired nothing more than slightly larger than cult following.

Now however, they're very much the flavour of the month. And long may they stay that way - They deserve it. Make an effort to grab hold of their back catalogue - you won't be disappointed.

  • just utter beauty...............will be boo hoo at wembley, love you guys

  • YES! Good music!

  • Well done to the BBC and Elbow for this, recognition at last, imagine Ribcage, Powder blue etc under the same setting............

  • or Newborn...

  • or Great Expectations...

  • Thanks a lot for sharing this master pieces!

  • one of the finest songs from an awesome album. Love Elbow!

  • Lovely.

  • sólo puedo decir que maravilloso, maravilloso Guy

  • this song is amazing....

  • it makes me feel like... i really fly :D

just great, this band deserves some recognition... dam

  • A Mercury award isn't enough recognition? Or will only world domination suffice?

  • think so yes:P

  • I agree 1 award for such a talented band. I will be devistated if they never win any more.

  • Stumbled across this on BBCi, never really been into Elbow before, didn't hate them just never really took much notice. TILL NOW! I must have watched this 3 or 4 times back to back till the early hours in awe. Totally compelling and captivating and one of the best performances I've ever seen - the orchestra and choir take it to dizzying heights. Love it!

  • One of, if not the best voice in the music industry at this moment in time.

Finally they are getting the recognition they should have been getting since the release of Powder Blue
