-There is no way to tell them and the other folks apart.

-There were men with appeared to be guns.

-They saw what looked like an RPG and a US convoy was headed in that direction.Do the math.

-On the Heli's screen there was no way to zoom in close enough to see the children without zooming into the video. You could clearly tell they didn't know about the kids.

Like I said, with a friendly convoy heading towards the area, protecting the convoy is priority number 1. Hell it obviously wasn't handled correctly in any respect, but the pilots were doing their goddamn job.

I think anyone would prioritize the safety of their friends over figuring out if the guys on the ground were civvies or not.
