I'm in the military and have been stationed in Japan for over 2 years now. This will be the first holiday season I have been home since and my girlfriend bought her and I tickets as a present. It was very sweet of her =).
i'm not sure about the whole thing, but from what i can understand/ have looked up, i think the first verse about the animals is symbolic for just people in general. i'm not sure how many years back, but aaron weiss was arrested for protesting war in d.c., a similar thing happened to sister margaret, who he works with in a drug rehab type place, in N.J., i think the rats symbolize people who have not yet found jesus nor salvation
so, finding salvation in their tracks is people finding jesus through efforts of others to bring them there timothy hay is a dry bland animal feed, so i think saying no more timothy hay means no more bland meaningless life, the rest of the song is a bit happier, words and music, because they found this "new mom which we call God" that's my interpretation, take it as you will, i doubt it's perfect, there's much more there, but it's an awesome song, definitely gets you thinking

They are NOT Christians. They're Sufi, which is to Islam as Kabbalah is to Judaism....very mystical. Weiss' parents converted (from Judaism) when he was still a kid. Now before all you Christians freak out realizing that you've been praising a 'false' god, take a chill pill and enjoy the music.
Joel I suggest you takea chill pill. Your comment shows you know as little about Christianity as you do about Sufism and Kabbalah ("very mystical" how insightful of you, you've convinced me). You have an obvious axe to grind with any faith, but particularly Christianity, this much is obvious. Bottom line is, that Aaron at least is a truth seeker, and he affirms the truth in other traditions from a foundation in Christ. I'd call that Christianity. The Christianity of Jesus not institutions.
Oh my Lord, I had to look this up. I'd always thought the Sister Margaret-plastic tie lyrics were some sort of historical, like, Vietnam War reference. And then I saw this comment. And looked it up. Oh wow. Aaron got arrested at the Pentagon for being part of a "die in" about the million Iraqis killed in the war. And got arrested. With a nun. That is awesome.
i have to respectfully say i dont really get it though
dont really enjoy the spoken word songs...and these ones where hes singing....mm is it the lyrics & msg of the song? coz im quite a shallow music listener, i usually dont really care what the singer's listening about, + im more used to more upbeat songs..just curious what you fans enjoy bout their music, not trying to put them down or anything

um....listen to A stick A carrot and A string, than read one of the four gospels, then tell me that he isn't Christian ( preferably Matthew or Luke )

It's about Aaron and a nun getting arrested in front of the Pentagon for protesting the war. True story, more material.
