I am a diving instructor and I always try to explain it to my students that we can make a real difference in changing at least our little world starting from what we eat everyday. This video is kind of depressing, considering that their kind will soon be nothing but memories because of us. As a biology student I already learned that dolphins, and to a lesser but still significant extend whales, have a brain/body ratio approximately twice the size of chimpanzees and their brain is similarly structured to ours, even more disturbing is the complexity of their limbic system - the centre of emotions. These creatures may suffer emotional pain and grief even stronger than we do.

@inventiontension Because its feeding behavior is such that it only eats when it dives deep down toward the ocean bottom, where squid live. Any time you see a sperm whale at the surface, chances are its stomach is full, and it's taking a break after hunting for squid. The whale's natural predatory aggression is thus reduced.

That doesn't mean that it won't lash out it it feels frightened. In this case though, it clearly wasn't worried. Just curious more than anything else.

I am curious about the whale. I am guessing it is a young Male, who likely recently left it's pod, by the playfulness of the thing. That or it's pod are diving right now and can't be bothered. I've never seen one of the larger whales interact with humans on this level it is absolutely amazing. He's actually playing with them. How amazing is that? That's like going into the woods and bumping into a 30 foot tall Grizzly bear who just wants to play!

It's called Sperm Whale because back in the beginnings of whale hunting, whale hunters thought that the spermaceti actually is the semen of the whale, because it has a smiliar texture. It's actually a wax-like liquid in the sperm-whale's head that's used to make things like candles etc. Later people found out it is not sperm, but it's biological function is not certain.
