I just saw the show 2 days ago in Tapolca (Hungary). It was amazing. Except for Catherine, the rest were hungarian and arguably not as good dancers as she is. However, the girls were stunningly beautiful, and that was compensation enough :-).
Between some acts there was live music, a group of five (drums, spanish guitar, violin, flute and keyboards), they were very good too, the flavour was very friendly.
Marley is actually a great floor to dance on as long as there is a sprung floor underneath it. Gaelforce Dance uses this method with omni-surround mics on the shoes. I think it's a shoddy excuse for Riverdance and Lord (Among others) to use a track. When it's live there is a far greater quality of sound from the combinations of the various timbres from the shoes. As for keeping in time, not a problem. Certainly better than seeing MF blatantly missing clicks on DVDs when the track is still goin!
Easy answers on the floor situation, most irish dance shows have a playback track. The track is recorded with the dancers on a wooden floor, in a show they usually dance on a rubber like surface called marley, the marley helps with safety on the taps and helps lighting. You may think that it is a bad thing to have a track, but it also keeps the dancers true, a slight mistake and it is obvious.
Every show uses playback, because the quality of the floor is always different... sometimes it's good enough for you to hear out the taps, while on other floors only the stomps can be heard. And actually the taps are different during her solos compared to when all 15-20 dancers perform. :)
Not always. For their own shows they do bring their own floor, but when they are paid to perform for example at a theater then that's a different story.
What is the first song called? and good dancing :)

Pfff... Metal floor? No, I don't think so. Absolutely playback. There is the same tap when she dance, and when 20 dancers dance... Hahh :)
But lovely.

The shows bring their own floor, that´s not the reason.
