@all The RL mod is now edited as a config instead of further (or optional) esp's. The config folder is in the Data folder of skyrim. (vid is out of date now) also the RLW also takes a bit more config or it doesn't work right. (have to change the water text size manually)
What if a mod made NPCs respond to indirect lightsources as if they HEARD them, like they produce a sound instead of visual light. imagine that guy staring at thetable turning aroundsaying "huh,. what was that?" and then sees you and attacks instead of doing nothing. Possibly much more reallistic.
with realistic lighting you can actually see a good shadowy path for your stealthy char ... + this mod doesn't kick your performance in the stomach ...
I have enhanced shaders installed with the DarkeningAmountNight set to 0 and then the realistic light mog installed. Outside the game is pretty much perfect and inside most houses its dark but still pretty nice. However some house like the solitude house for instance is almost pitch black. Do you not find this a tad too dark or have you changed any settings anywhere to make this slightly more playable?
I installed realistic through the workshop for now as the file is hidden on NMM.
Thank you for this - great as always. I just watched this again and it led me to go ahead and add Realistic Lighting on top of Enhanced Shaders.
For those who asked about how to tweak Enhanced Shaders to deal with the dark nights - check the Readme. Basically you need to go into the enbseries.ini file and adjust a variable called DarkeningAmountNight. I found setting it to zero got me what I wanted - but just mess around with it.
In my opinion, this realistic light texture makes the game look like the way blizzard did the diablo games, and how dark and sinister it looks, and I think it's incredibly nostalgic. Like I'm about to go and fight Diablo in an Elder Scrolls game. 10/10
@Thisnameistaken I definately want to, but I need to wait till my family are away for a few days. I don't want my kids going to nursery screaming fus ro dah at their teachers .... although ....
@GophersVids Hahaha, true. Very commendable foresight of you. Lots of people might not have considered it, but lord knows it would break their little hearts when teacher didn't go flying across the classroom ;)

Simply wonderfull!
Looking forward to get more vids from you, and when the skyrim mod kit comes out (if it does), that would be a great thing to go through and show how people can make their own mods safely.
can anyone tell me how to change the enhanced shaders setting? I realy want the Realistic Lighting Without Post-Processing mod now that the post processing mod no longer is available.
@GophersVids I tested it last night, this does drastically change the night sky... if you're using any of the fantastic star, galaxy, nebula or moon mods then the sky doesn't look nearly as pretty (quite dull in comparison), so it's a really tough choice as both mods add a lot of flavor to the game. This lighing mod just edges it for me though, so thanks again!
@TheConfoundedWizard Try reactivating the night sky mod AFTER you install this one. It should replace the sky textures with the one from the mod you prefer.
@GophersVids I'll try that but it shouldn't make a difference... I don't think this mod replaces any textures (at least not for me according to NMM). But I can live with that... immersion beats eye candy any day of the week!
@awtztoinkz Yes. I have tried the new beta version but it is a little hazy for my liking, although it seems to have a lot less of a performance hit which is good news. But for now I am sticking with 1.8.
Great vid, can you make a video showcasing all the mods your currently playing with? After watching your videos i realize how much better your game looks than mine.
if we are using enhanced shaders, then install the brighter nights version of the realistic lightning mod would that balance the nights to a playable level?
With all the recent mod releases and updates, are all of your previous tips still applicable? SKSE, SBW, 4GB launcher, etc? How about a refresher on these tools?
Yeah, I've been using the realistic lighting mod but may stop because I thought NPC's had the same visibility issues but they don't, so I'll wait for the CS to come out and someone to mod it before I use something that gives them an unfair advantage over me. Its the same reason I wasn't using the shader mods that made nights darker. Its not realistic if I'm the only one affected by it.
Realistic Lighting + iHud (removing enemy and stealth indicators) + tougher traps + subliminal traps IS INSANITY! I got inspired by this video and it has breathed new life into my assassin play-through. Great work on this series and iHud!
I love this mod so much, are you are right, it does completely change the way you play.
My character has developed a sleep cycle thanks to this mod, and I'm afraid to venture into the dark at night. Sometimes I have to brave it, and the experience is terrifying. It just improves immersion so much.
Realistic lighting is great for going outdoors or in dungeons but the moment you enter a shop you can't miss how the candles aren't lighting anything. Add in that the corners are pitch black so you can't see the stock and the shop keeper just stands in the dark and all immersion is ruined. Maybe it could work if the mod also changed all shop keeper voices to golem.
@GophersVids Well, I'm having the same issue as that guy. I tried doing that, and it was still an issue. I'm also playing this WITH enhanced shaders, and you were right, Gopher. It looks AMAZING. But yeah, please help.
Am I missing something? I got the Realistic Lighting Without Post-Processing and loaded into the Archmage's Chambers. The candles in that room don't actually produce any light, just a glow. Which means with this mod the chamber is far far darker than any game designer could've intended. Guessing there's no way to fix this unless someone's brought Oblivion's Real Lights mod over to Skyrim?
I know this is really late to ask about but is there any way you will ever go back to Fallout 3 and do some mods reviews?, reason I ask it's because for me Fallout 3 was so much better than Fallout New Vegas but we never had anyone making videos like this and it would be awesome to see someone doing some , special coming from a person like you :D
@MegaSpooke I agree that FO3 is brilliant and I may go back and do another run through sometime. If I do, I probably will make some videos, but it is just more a matter of time right now.
Hey man watched from number one to this one:P You don't mention what are your favorite/ currently enabled mods do you ? Would love to see it, considering your the one showcasing and trying out so many mods, would be great to see which mods get GophersVids rated approval :)
I absolutely love this mod. Initially it was very unfamiliar for me cause I played so many hours with bright nights and dungeons but as you stated the experience while playing is much more intense and immersive.
Another advantage is the slightly better performance due to removed unnecessary post processing effects.
Will you show us how to mod with the mod tools when they come out? I really don't like having to settle for everyone else's houses/castles when they don't have anything I need or want. and not just making houses but weapons and armor and enemies and everything in between. thanks for reading :D
My favorite part about this mod was that it actually made torches, nighteye, and candlelight / magelight useful rather than just being there for the hell of it. Trying to sneak with the intense darkness is similar to how Metro 2033 works, especially with nighteye to mimic the infrared goggles.
@Doobersribber Totally agree. And before this mod I didn't even know you could use torches to block and set people on fire. Now sword and torch is my favourite comination :)
@VGSensation Yes, BUT I know a lot of Norwegians who could pass as either English, Scottish or American. They officially start learning english at the age of 6, but they get loads of british and american TV/movies and they do not dub. Many of them can even pass off as a native, and have a larger english vocabulary than most of my friends/family back home :)
@GophersVids How do you like it over there in Norway? I'm still young (high school), but I'm thinking of taking Norwegian or Swedish as a language so that I can go on to live in Scandinavia. 3:35 what are you talking about? Enhanced shaders is an ENB setting. So you can change daylight and nightlight very easy.
I use Realistic Lightning + FXAA + ENB, eventhough the description says not to
ENB only couldn't get it dark enough at night and in caves. So I combined it with RL, much better.
And RL doesn't affect performance cause it only changes saturation and stuff through esp not really sure how it works, but anyhow
FXAA+ENB+RL and FXAA + ENB gives same performance.
