  • Bella!!! sublimee!!!

  • I never knew about Jacqueline Du Pré until some weeks before when my Cello`s teacher told me about her. I bought the Jacqueline Du Pré Elgar Concert on DVD! This is the best dvd that I bought in all my life! She was Amazing!!!

  • this alone is why i learned cello

  • what a phenomenal performance! dramatic yet clean & neat. she makes it look so easy, breezy and fun.

  • @dancedelirium hahaha...your comment has made me laugh in front of my computer... but I could see what you mean

  • This is a wonderful performance, but it's not perfect. I say this because only Elgar himself would be able to christen a performance of this piece perfect, and he died eleven years before Jacqueline Du Pré was even born. When people say what I am saying, you all like to call them "uneducated," (one person even called another a "fag"), when you are in no place to do so. To say that this piece should never even be recorded again because of du Pre is beyond absurd.

  • the last few seconds when she pizz is my favorite part!

  • Nobody can play like her....

  • Comment removed

  • OMG! playing like that is ridiculous!!!!!!!!!! :) I say it in a good way of course! :)

  • the best!!!! jackie!! noboby like her never!!!!

  • that bow stroke!!

  • Cellocraze,in my school there is one girl. She is in 11 class, but she playing Elgar concert 3,4 parts better than she.

  • @MrAugustasG not trying to be rude...but for one: the elgar was jaqueline's masterpiece and most coveted concerto and two: any professional cellist i've heard has said jaqueline du pre's style of playing was out of the world and unmatchable by anyone else so far. personally i've never heard a professional or student play this as well (and i've heard at least 50 different people play this piece). but still, it's your opinion on whether you prefer her playing or your classmates

  • I think she is too rude.

  • honestly, how does one play this perfectly

  • @aznc0ffe388 First, your name has to be Jacqueline Du Pre. I heard it's cake after that. lol

But on a serious note, there are so many technical aspects of this piece to cover that you'd have to be prodigal and/or studying a very long time to do so; Mastering your tone in each section of the bow, precise finger placement and shifting, endurance in the extremities, tempo control. Just play every day until your arms fall off, you'll get it. haha

  • she rocks!!!

  • The best clip on YouTube ...

  • She ist the greatest cellist ever lived. I lavoe her so much. And Daniel Barenboim - her husband - so young.

  • She ist the greatest cellist ever lived. I lavoe her so much.

  • She ist the greatest cellist ever lived.

  • her smile in the end is like pippi langstrumpf!!

  • I don't understand how I've never heard of this woman before! She is absolutely AMAZING!!!! I can't stop listening/watching her! It's so sad someone so passionate and talented had to give up playing so young. :(....

  • @Tabbisiah I can understand how you've never heard of this woman before ... because you know nothing ...

  • @radstainforth Hardy harrr. I've just never focused on cellists before. Either way, we both can agree she was amazing.

  • @Tabbisiah Ha! Nice one ... You can probably name a whole list of musicians that I've not heard of, so we're even ... this is still the best clip I've seen on YouTube ... and many more people will find it and be blown away ... so that's good ...

  • @radstainforth Why so shitty? Just enjoy the music and those who appreciate it.

  • my favorite part is 4:27 to the end :)

  • I cant play this anywhere near as good as her - she is amazing!

  • @lilchrisluvva well of course you cant!!!! She is like the greatest cellist that ecer lived!!!

  • @lilchrisluvva well of course you cant!!!! She is like the greatest cellist that ever lived!!!

  • I love her smile and the last bit if that piece

  • I love the first and second movements the best :)

  • she really shines in the second movement. A perfect adaptation of Elgar's intention.

  • LarissaFMattos (Video 02 - n.1/JSBach Prelude)

  • The smile at the end... ah! its so beautiful

  • wou... thank u god for the music, thank u for the Cello...

  • 12 retards give a thumb down to the worlds greatest cello player.

  • @shaquanda-nator

Shut up bitch no on here came to listen to your nasty rap music. FUCK OFF.

    :)

  • Jacqueline must be playing her cello in heaven....there are no words to express the gratitude for her generous and inspiring spirit....

  • Anyone with a soul cannot be but moved by this music and Jackie's performance. I truly lack the vocabulary to adequately express how this woman and her music move me. I smile, I cry, I am stirred deep inside. This is the essence of what truly exceptional music and musicians can do. Once you hear this you are changed. You can't go back.

  • This moves me to tears every time!

  • I don't like Justin Beiber.

  • I love her smile at the end :-)

  • DAAAAAMN this is amazing. i love that part at 2:11

  • Yo-Yo Ma is so far of the Jacqueline's perfection

  • wow. i thought i had this movement almost perfect. it seems i still have a bit of work to do lol

  • Gotta love the smile at the very, very end. Amazing.

  • jaqueline du pre the besst eeeeeeever!!!! *-*

  • This recording is from 1965.

  • she has something in her eyes...something too big and great to have a name...

  • @BANAluvsONI ..and something a bit lunatic as well..

  • Does anyone know the date of this recording?

  • what a lucky bunch of musicians. i would KILL to be able to perform with jackie today.

  • so expressive!!!

  • Su vida y música fueron extravangante y simplemente extraordinadinaria

  • Oh man, this is recording is definitely sped up. Check it out at 3:00...no fingers can move that fast.

Even the orchestra members are moving oddly quickly.

Hahaha I guess that's the only way to reach Elgar's ridiculous tempo marking of 160.

Is this the only recording of her 2nd movement on youtube?

  • @mtdvorak I believe this is real speed. It is possible to fidget your fingers at that speed. Be aware of the right-hand bowing that might make us to feel "fast" :)

  • @mtdvorak You have to remember - This IS Jacqueline Du Pré, one of the greatest cellists EVER!

  • muscian,s unite !!!:] x with dyslexia

  • I wish she was alive...

  • every time i see this i'm just lest awestruck...what surprises is how totally faithful she is to the score of whatever music she played! my piano teacher played for lessons she gave young gifted cellists when du pre was wheelchair bound and she was always so strict on rubato and had every piece she played meticulously mapped out as you can hear/see in this performance. technical brilliance allowing her interpretation to pour from her

  • What a remarkable individual. I wish I could have heard her perform in person. What a particularly cruel tragedy her illness and death are. Wish I could have been there to hear her in person

  • Did you know that the Conductor is her husband

  • Awesome! No one like her!

  • Why does it look sped up?

  • Masters at work - first, the conductor without a score. Second and more obviously, Jacqueline du Pre. Such cannot be sufficiently described with mere words.

  • In the desert of dross that is youtube, here at least is an oasis of true worth and delight.

  • You are not alone in that sentiment.

  • @crzxr yeah right!let them do a justin bieber song lol they would struggle ect

  • @crzxr Here here! *raised a toast*

  • @miyabi121190 Yes. Or more accurately, and appropriately, Hear! Hear!

  • Stunning!

  • the final smile is the sweetest thing

  • I wholeheartedly agree

  • cellocarrot is wondering which of her celli she is playing. Some cellists have more than one. My teacher has at least four.

  • @cellocarrot I think she's playing a cello.

  • The video seems to be behind the sound at the end.

  • How does she do it at 2:35? Amazing, in such a speedy tempo! Bravi!

  • That's my favorite part of the movement.lol

  • What instrument is she playing on?

  • the davidoff strad, i think

  • my goodness the fingering that is going on at the end is amazing... and she makes it look effortless.. genius!

  • That smile. Each time I watch this I am ever more convinced there is something very personal that passes between husband and wife. She looks like a mischievous little girl who has got away with something. I would give one year of what is left of my life to see her play live.

  • @chazsmateII...Same. I mean there is no one who could say she isnt amazing. So amen to that

  • @ipownsohard true...if only people thought the same about Herman Li..

  • wonder why webber got award for best recording of this concerto when du pre obviously pwns.

  • Every time I watch this I die laughing at the end. That's all you can do really! It's just marvelous. What a manic-depressive piece!

  • love the plucking

  • I know right. So beast

  • Super!

  • I love the way she smiled after playing that. xD

  • She is being directed by her husband, maybe that's why.

  • how can anyone play this so well, so perfect!!

    She's hacking...

  • Yo Yo Ma doesn't stand a chance, this is SO alive!

  • hah

  • @cellocraze what u mean by hacking?

  • No one can play this movement as amazing and fast while still articulating clearly as Jackie

  • when was this recorded? and where?

  • '65 for EMI .

  • yeah sorry... I wasn't paying very much attention as I was doing something and posted the comment half way through.

    ignore my last comment =D

  • no way, this is most certainly the second movement. although I can see why you might think it's the first, because the three chords played at the start are exactly the same as those played at the start of the first movement (just played pizzicato here)

  • yeah, it wasn't on very loud and I was doing somethign else at the same time as listening to it, my mistake!

  • Philharmonia Orchestra

  • The slide to the high 'A' at 2:34 is an amazing moment lol.

  • I just listened to this while following the music.

    Confusing much?

    Love it. :)

  • oh thanks!! how could she cheat on him?

  • Who was the conductor?

  • Daniel Barenboim, her eventual husband.

  • the conductor was her husband Daniel Barenboim

  • dios!!!! mio!!!! hasta que te encontre!!!! gracias. esta mas viva que nunca!!!! porque vive, existe a traves de su musica, es sencillamente inmortal. gracias x este video. alonso real.

  • never minde

  • i love her

  • You are actually slightly wrong....

    This is the players preference.

    Not a "Mistake".

  • no. I am sure that is a mistake. Check it yout carefully

  • No, as I just explained to u its a personal preference to miss out the notes.

    Its not technically a mistake!

This video wasnt posted for people like u to criticise&pick.

She doesn't ask for u approval because she is already a millionaire because shes fully professional. U are still studying.

The reason the video is here is so people can enjoy it, not for u to start putting negative comments on it!

Im not doubting you are a great musician but she is PROFESSIONAL! So u have no grounds to say this!

  • Sorry but I'm not agree with you :)

( it is just an opinion. Everyone, can have an opinion. This my opinion. )

  • Oh of course indeed that's true everyone should have their own opinion but.... If you look how many people disagree with your comment then that kinda shows .......

  • Ummm....she's dead.

  • Did anyone ever say she wasn't?

  • you wrote in the present tense, considering she is no longer alive, saying she "IS" a millionare is innacurate. Anyway, I think the point he was trying to make was that there is no poing in arguing over it, however insensitively he has done so.

    (RE to creature 04797)

  • Oh my days do you guys ever stop Nit-Picking?

That is my original point! The fact that the comment was totally insensitive and pointless!

  • Goodness there's no reason to bite his head off.

  • Me?...

    Haven't bitten ANYONE's head off??

  • i still cannot get over her articulation!!!

  • i've now just noticed how unique her sound is.

  • i think yo-yo ma does the plucking better thank Jacqueline Du Pré

for one reason, he does it with such a passion it blow you away and his styles was amazing.

nothing against her, she is still amazing.

  • I just love the beginning and does not matter how many times I did hear it before, it still gives me the chills and make my cry a little; Elgar was right, his concer its the very essence of living and Jackie was the best to play it.

  • I'm learning to play this movement and I love the piece but it's killing me. I'm up to 120 but that's still a LONG way to go.

  • Are you sure the 'conducer' with J. 'Du Pr' was Daniel...?

  • Yes that is him when he had hair.

  • It's hard to believe she was so young when she first played this. She plays with such passion and life, it flows directly from her fingertips, to the cello, and out for it to be heard. I can only hope I can play with that same vitality in the future. Damn MS for taking such a beautiful creature from the earth too soon.

  • I don't know anything about classical music, but man that blows me away.

  • Barenboim? He left her for another women when she was dying.

  • absolutely brilliant

  • Their collaboration was one of love and music. How perfect.

  • omg i am going to start playing cello next year as an eighth grader.....i dont think i could ever EVER get that good....yo yo ma's is amazing to they both show so much passion yo yo ma is the new version of du pre BUT will never EVER supass her passion no matter how much he TRYS to show emotion....he is a good celloist but ends up looking like a dork. YAY DU PRE! BRAVADO!

  • Great interpretation or greatest interpretation?

  • oh man.

    that gives me the chills.

  • Jacqueline Du Pre is a cello god in a human body she is purely brilliant

  • Crrazzy! Shocking! Super.

  • Check out the showmanship at 2:35 when she hits the harmonic.

  • SPICATTO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • SAUTILLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I agree.

  • Jacqueline is simply the greatest cellist EVER.

  • she makes the last 2 minutes or so look SO damn easy

  • I love the two smiles she gave! bravo!!!

  • Well, she's simply a prodigy!!!

  • absolute genius.

  • [Pause @ 03:25 >>> it's been edited out, but on the master tape the conductor could be heard......"Oi luv, you can't start 'doing yer nails' now".]

    This is an amazing performance!

  • [Oh doh! Yea....I see now, it was the 'clippies' hand giving directions to the crew on the bus. They were all truly 'on the bus', absolutely 'in the zone'.]

  • [ach! Double doh!! ^ ^ Th@ ^ ^ was meant for the 1st Movement text comment]

I'm enjoying this so much, I'm all a fluster... lol

  • I've just watched this again, and sitting alone, applauded at the conclusion.

I surprised myself. I don't do that sort of thing!

  • The best interpretation of the Elgar concert!!!

  • i love the hand gesture at 2:35. you can tell shes really enjoying it.

  • how could anyone not enjoy doing this, doing it the way she does it?

  • shame on you for even bringing him up in a comments section on Du Pre. Shame. On. you.

  • this is phenomenal... but on some of the pizz, i thought that a lot of them were great and sonorous, but on some there was a tinny quality to the sound like maybe she hit the string on the fingerboard or... I donno. Mahler pizz in Elgar? i donno, was it intentional..?

Of course, far be it from me to judge jacqueline.

  • Some of the pizz. chords use open strings, some don't - the effect is much more sonorous with open strings.

  • Oh god, my wrist tremolo is in a mess...

Many people say that J. Du Pre is less technically sound than Yo Yo Ma, but this isn't true. They're pretty much equals. J Du Pre can break so many "rules" (Hand position shifting? Oh who cares, just use the best finger for the note!) while making such great sound!

  • Is this now considered the definitive version?

I can't imagine how it can be improved upon.

  • oh how i love this woman...

it has always been my greatest wish to be able to play elgar as impressive as she did...actually i'm far from playing such difficult stuff ;)

  • That saultille (wrist tremolo) was amazing... My arm would have probably fallen off.

  • Her pizzicato is just fantastic.

  • Thank you for this video, I will always treasure it

  • Oh God...

The...Uhh. "BBBBDDDDBBBAABBB" motif... It just reminds me of... A devastated field... and you're looking for... something. Anyone thinks so too?

  • In a nutshell i think that as well, but you can't find anything or anyone. No hope...but then a change occurs
