i agree that elite isn't necessary but technically if you buy all the map packs individually it will cost you more than $50 anyway. Also this is to get the map packs EARLY. You can still get the map packs just not as early. And finally stop flaming Infinity Ward about elite there is a 98% chance the idea was made by Activision considering the fact that Activision owns the Call of Duty name

Xbox gets the DLC first. Meaning both Call of Duty Elite subscribers and non-subcribers (for xbox) get the DLC first?

Usually for COD the first map packs don't come out until late February or March. Elite is for those who want pieces of them EARLIER. It's not like Elite is the regular release time and non-Elite is later. And I think it was extremely clear since like September that Elite members would get downloadable content early so for those who didn't know this, well, that's your fault.
