I would say this video was made some where between October and December of 2002, because he got signed with Esp in January of 2003. If he was already signed with Esp then he wouldn't be playing a Jackson in this video. Also he's not playing his Wildchild guitar so most likley it has already been stolen, and that happened in late september of 2002.

Alexi had his first EMG pickup when he started to use Esp-guitars.

@thefreezingmoon1 its not a passive pickup. I read somewhere that he used active pickups until he joined ESP. Thats when he started with the passive EMG. I prefer his ESP models to the Jackson RR. The cutaway they added made it so much easier to get at the 20-24th fret. Plus I like the larger bottom "horn" that they added.

Check out the EMG HZ series of passive emg's. i have them on my guiitar and they r the passive equivalents of active EMG's. and also alexi's signature pickup is passive, but has an active pre amp.

Passives , With a preamp , cause you'll notice if you check out more recent live shows that he doesnt use the Pink esp or the Yellow one as much anymore , Now he mostly uses the scythe and the blacky. But to tell you the truth I Prefer active EMG's to Blackouts , I dunno the Active Duncans have more output but EMG's just sound better.

I dunno , cause EMG is more well known for actives , so I dont know when they started making passives but it was before 2005. Also another thing about Active duncans i dont like is that they dont have a rly nice clean sound , and if you want a Nice distorted tone you need a good Clean sound too.

You're right. It's important to have clean sound from pickup. I presonally haven't played on duncan's pickup yet but I've heard it and for me EMG sounds better - active of course. Passives aren't so bad but I prefer actives as well ;-)
