  • Same shit different decade

  • Is there a list of all the people in this video?

  • 'Every Job you Take'- A Conservative Prime Minister

    'Everyone You've Killed'-Robert Mugabe

'All the Blood You've Spilled'-Colonel Gadaffi

'Every Word of Hate' Iran's Supreme Leader.

Was this filmed back in the 1980's or in 2011!?

  • @KaiObelisk Doesn't it still hold such relevance!? At least now with Gadaffi gone Mugabe is the only one of these shown still in power. (Unless you still believe Hitler is still ruling Germany from Venezuala.

  • I loved this show, but it always creeped me out.

  • If only there was a bill to pay.

  • and the tories taking jobs away from us the govermant a bunch of retards

The Con-Servitive Party rob from poor and give to rich

  • @gallafey yeah and who got us into the recession again? who raided our pension funds? who increased more existing taxes and added more new taxes then ever before? Thats right, your beloved labour.

  • @stephenhicks1974 They're both as bad as each other. No matter which party is in power, they will end up screwing the country over one way or another before long.

  • Finally, Gaddafi has reached his judgement day.

  • This is the most astonishing piece of satire. I just watched this for the first time in about 20 years. It still sent chills down my spin.

  • lolz thatcher at the lyirc every job you take

  • Why is Indira Gandhi in it?

  • @weecraig898 Because India had the Bomb and Indira Gandhi was prime minister.

  • @wdgarraway What do you mean the bomb?

  • @weecraig898 Nuclear Weapons.

  • As moving as the original. x

  • The only person I trust on that video is Death...

  • Does anyone remember a Spitting Image sketch in which Maggie was chatting to her next door neighbour . I think about new government policies. Her neighbour was a very old, grey and equally crazy Adolf Hitler.

  • come on bbc, bring back spitting image!

  • @Harryscarvlogs It wasn't a BBC programme..

  • @Codex7777 i thought it was, i wasn't born when it was on, still the bbc should re-make it

  • New century, new faces, same old shit!

  • @crypticmirror All except Gaddafi, he's still around!

  • @SecondQuantisation Well, according to my timeline, not any more.

  • @SecondQuantisation Not anymore it seems!

  • @SecondQuantisation and Mugabe- he's on at 00:50 still going I'm afraid

  • @SecondQuantisation Not for long!

  • Anybody here have a good list of the bastards they used?

I can recognize most of them, except for some of the persons at the end.

  • @Christian121y 1 Ronald Reagan,2 Margret Thatcher,3 Arthur Skargill & Ian Mcgreggor,4 Ian Paisley, 5 Konstantin Chernenko,6 Robert Mugabe,7 Fidel Castro,8Muammar Gaddafi,9 Yuri Andropov,10 Idiamin,

    11 Leonid Brezhnev,12 Adolf Hitler,13 Indira Gandhi,14 Ayatollah Khomeini,15 P.W.Botha,16 Chernenko again,

    17 Death :D

  • @yitleditle Thank you so very much my kind sir.

You may have an internetz cookie now!!!!!

  • @Christian121y Why thank you kind sir :D I had to present my essay on british culture in my german school so what better to pick than this great series and this particular song which indeed has so many messages even after such a long time ;D

  • @yitleditle You're welcome;)

  • 2011, same shit, different faces

  • Please, please ITV/C4 we need you now - return Spitting Image to our screens.

  • Jesus Gaddafi is still here when all others have gone..........just FUCK OFF

  • "Once again, death injury agreements strike war Soviets Americans two-nil and stupid bastards" classic. Spitting Image was class when it was on, and still is.

  • I'm so sorry that "Spitting Image" missed the entire New Labour era. Think of all the wonderful sketches that we were deprived!

  • I'd like to have a list myself, obviously you can make out Reagan and Thatcher after that I can see:

Paisley, Castro; there is a Soviet leader there possibly Brezhnev or Andropov, depending on who was Premier at the time. I guess most of the others would be subject to debate cos it's so long ago, I'd love someone to try to compile a list tho

  • @TheClb1001 the only one I can add to that list is Mugabe

  • Can somebody make a list of all the people in this vid? There are a few people I can't figure out.

  • The manifestation of Death at the end really resonates...tt is very moving. Thirty years of being dicked by greedy far-right arseholes and their corrosive, vile socio-econimic policies conditions one to having a sore ringpiece, but the caracatures in the video serve further re-inforce that impression. Wish this show would come back, as I remember it from the 80s...George "Cunt" Osbourne and cumstain Cameron could have been given a thorough portrayal.

No SURRENDER TO FAR-RIGHT TORY SCUM!

  • @solitarysorrow Let me destroy you in one sentence:

Look at Britain when the tories left, one of the best economics in Europe everyone had money, jobs and great house prices, look at it when labor left, one of the worst economies in Europe and a burnt, worn out mess.

    ;D

  • @Dalek1230 what about the fact that neoliberalism ruined social structures in the third world.

  • @Dalek1230 what about the fact that neoliberalism ruined social structures in the third world. thatcher was all about that and that wasn't so great. besides the economie was in recession at the time. remember the oil crisis, followd by the resources crisis and the debttrap? why do you think the falkland war was fought? because a war makes people forget the economie and you can use it as an excuse. like thatcher really gave a damm about 2000 falklanders

  • @glamedrehl Your Spelling Reflects Your Political Intelligence

  • @Dalek1230 English isn't my mother tongue, knowledge of language and political intelligence are 2 seperate things.

  • @glamedrehl Idiot the Falklands got INVADED, it just happened one day ;)

  • @Dalek1230 nothing ever just happens. it was part of a long diplomatic dispute between uk and Argentina. and don't say the Uk had no choise, if you plan to kill that's because you want to kill the rest is an excuse. but this is not important, what is important is that thatcher wasn't that great as you seem to think. Let me put it this way if the rule of thatcher was so fantastic why are her statues getting decapited by frustrated workers(former workers) and remember the yorksire miners?

  • Reagan and Thatcher were utter bastards. Castro shouldn't be there.

  • Spitting Image was hardly as great as you seem to remember it being. There were usually about 2 half decent sketches per show and maybe a couple of brilliant ones per series. The vast majority of sketches were pretty lame, tbh. It had impact because there was less choice then. Nowadays we have thousands of channels and the internet. We probably have more good satire now than then, tbh. (and 'The Day Today' was much better) ;)

  • @CountOrlok1 Oh, yes, he should be there. Are you aware of how many people have been murdered by his regime?

  • The media is so watered down now, spitting image would be relegated to some freeview channel nowadays. People care more about Kerry Katona than they do the truth,

    Sad

  • @martintod2006 so true people would rather watch that no tallent slag get her tits out for a fiver than watch the government get the piss taken (which INMHO is loads funnier) plus it would help said idiots learn whos running the country

  • @TheThefishmaster Exactly

  • tune!!

  • What's interesting is that you could re-produce this same video with a number of politicians who today are doing the same thing.

Of course Robert Mugabi is still doing what he did when this was originally made!

  • @banjokitten I'll have a go at proposing some candidates, in the same order as in the video: George W. Bush, David Cameron, Nick Clegg, not sure about Irish Wake given the relative peace, Shimon Perez, Robert Mugabi, Osama bin Laden, Kim Yong Ill, insert general bad person here, Vladimir Putin, insert general bad person here, Hitler, empty plate - am open to suggestions, Anjem Choudary, Ahmadinejad, Hu Jintao, death

  • @Gazzar How about Michael O'Leary for Irish Wake?

  • One of the reasons Spitting Image isn't around any more is our Political figures are all so bland these days. Our sportsmen too, are corporate clones. They don't have enought quirky features to be sucessfully lampooned. I can only think of Boris Johnson who bucks the trend significantly, and he deliberately sends himself up as much as he can.

  • @Kidsgrove49 Politicians back then were pretty dull too; Spitting Image made them into characters, and we remember the puppets more than the people. I'm pretty sure they could do a good job with the current lot of lying posh-boys given half a chance.

  • Best satire ever, but they admitted years later they made not one jot of difference. Thatcher just went on and on, eventually brought down by the Tory party itself.

it was a good laugh, but failed in every other aspect.

  • @Kidsgrove49 Generally, satire is not intended to destroy regimes, but to poke fun at them, demonstrating that even men of power are mere mortals. And it did achieve its goal in this sense.

  • How can you compare Spitting Image which was truly cutting edge with HIGNFY which is a couple of overgrown schoolboys making cheap jibes. TV is very poor today; the BBC just churning out panel shows for your license fee.

  • I really liked watching Spitting Image back then:-)

This video should be sent to NATO Headquarters

  • Can anyone help me identify all the puppets in this song?

  • @goodgunnerwenger I see Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatchet, Idi Amin, Moammar Ghadaffi, Khomeni, Castro, Golda Meir, Gorbachev, Kim Il Sung, and Mao Tsetong. Not sure who the others are.

  • @dkupke There was also General Pinochet and Indira Ghandi

  • @dkupke There was also General Pinochet, Robert Mugabe and Indira Ghandi

  • I love the gentle threat in this

such a powerful show when it wanted to be...

  • lol! great classic comedy XD

  • Still as powerful today as I remember all those years ago. We need Spitting Image again!

  • Comment removed

  • this was aired the night before the summit in 1988

  • Magic.

I heard that Sting flew in from L.A. once he heard the preview and sang this version.

The only time they ever got the original singer to record one of their songs.

    Thanks for Posting.

  • The world needs Spitting Image.

  • spitting image....before my time, but I can still remeber their songs....from top of the pops :) now you're gonna call me dated for being around when it was on :)

  • Cool. Sting. Hes a good bloke, 1980's like this is cool

  • Sorry, should say Same problems, different faces. Labour Education!

  • Name problems, different faces!

  • I remember watching this when it was originally broadcast and thinking: The Police should release this version as a single, It's still powerful and (distressingly) appropriate today.

Strange how the only two characters up there that are still at the top of their trees are Gaddafi and Mugabe!!!

  • @casetone2514 Gaddafi is dead now so make that just Mugabe... His days are numbered...

  • Apparently, they wanted to include Gerry Adams instead of Ian Paisley, but Central refused because they didn't want to be on the recieving end of the IRA's insanity.

  • I found this surprisingly poignant. I like how it almost transcends the comedy and addresses the world leaders in it's own minor and subtle way.

  • this seriously needs updating and rereleasing..imagne it with obama, brown, putin etc etc...gadaffi will still be there though lol

  • is thier a long viros of this song

  • No, that is pretty much all of the spitting imagine version, there was a bit longer with the music in the credits followed by the repeat of the final verse.

  • Reagan, Thatcher, MacGregor & Scargill, Paisley

    Chernenko, Mugabe, Castro, Pinochet

    Andropov, Amin, Brezhnev, Hitler *

Mrs Gandhi, Khomenei, Botha, Chernenko, Death

    * in an early series of Spitting Image there was a sketch where an elderly Hitler was still alive and lived next door to Mrs Thatcher.

  • @octofox what is the reason of putting Chernenko 2 times in it?

  • @octofox That's almost correct but it's not General Pinochet but Colonel Gaddafi

  • It is Sting

  • If that's not Sting, then the guy they got in to impersonate him was really good.

  • That is Sting singing. The original sketch was sent in by a 15-year old schoolboy and the producers initially rejected it. After a few months they dug it out, built up the idea and asked Sting if he would sing it. And the rest is what you now see.

  • Yellowbelly, I'm afraid you're wrong. The song was re-written by Quentin Reynolds and James Glen (real name James Robertson) of Airdrie, Scotland. They submitted the idea as they thought it would be good to end Spitting Image on a serious note. They never thought the producers would go for it.

The producers did go for it, and Sting himself sang the song as he appreciated their re-working of his song.

Both Glen and Reynolds are credited at the end of the episode.

  • That is Sting singing. The original idea was submitted by a 15 year old schoolboy and initially rejected by the producers. They later dug it out, built it up and asked Sting to sing it. The rest is what you are now watching.

  • @yellowbelly06 A 15 year old? Blimey.

  • @xNeverthought I like to think it was Ian Hislop, and A 15 Year Old was his alias so he could secretly submit stuff to the show.

  • 13 is Howard Marks. At least I hope it is.

  • I thought that was actully quite sad

  • from tooth & claw the spitting image book: 1)reagan 2)thatcher 3a)macgregor 3b)scargil 4)paisley 5)chernenko 6)mugabe 7)castro 8)gadaffi 9)mrs gandhi 10)khomeini 11)botha 12)chernenko 13)Death
  • I can't make out who some of the figures in the background are.

    Can someone post a list?

  • 1 Reagan 2 Thatcher 3 ? 4 ? 5 Ian Paisley 6 Erik Honecker 7 President of China 8 Castro 9 Pinochet 10 Yury Andropov? 11 ? 12 ? 13 Botha 14 Indria Gandhi 15 Ayatollah Khomanie 16 Rupert Murdoch?
  • No 5 isn't Paisley. Paisley is one of the two togther (the one on the right). No 10 is Idi Amin. I have a feeling 12 is Brezhnev. 13 doesn't look anything like Botha. It looks like a native American women. I though 16 might be George Bush Sr but come to think about it, Murdoch isn't a bad guess. I dunno about 7. The Chinese president at the time (Deng) didn't have glasses. Maybe it's Kim Ill Sung or Pol Pot?

    Thanks for your help btw.

  • No, number 7 ist Deng, Deng was a de facto leader, 13 is Botha its the same as the pupet in the "Never met a nice south african" video.

  • Ahhhh right. Thanks :)

  • The song is actually called "Every Bomb You Make"

  • lol this song funny

  • Its funny but with a serious Message which was appropriate at the time, and is still kinda appropriate now.

  • Didn't Sting perform this version at Live 8, or something similar to it at least?

  • Now more than ever. Some of the same faces are even still in the game.

  • true true spitting image today take are minds of evrythin else going on we dont give a shite bout it now so spitting image wil return and we will push and shove just to get to the tv

  • Spitting Image truly was great, I think we need this to-day, a true opposition

  • We always need good sattire, the problem is it's near impossible to keep it up in one form (ie a particualr programme) for more than a few years; towards the end Spitting Image was clutching at straws and finally put out of its misery almost ten years too late.

  • I take your point; not sure if I entirely agree, but there is some truth there. I think that, although there is some excellent satire at present, there isn't anything that's mainstream; I remember discussing Spitting Image as a school child then hearing my grandparents discussing the same sketches and topics. I think, though I may be wrong, there is a perception that satire is 'middle class' when it should be an accessible medium to raise awareness for all

  • mock the week could be described as mainsteam satire but other than that you're right there is a lack of it these days. people would rather soaps or reality tv. what happened to bremner, bird and fortune?

  • Bremner, Bird and Fortune did do a series of three programme earlier in the year focusing on the credit crunch. I wonder whether people would rather watch serials or 'reality' t.v. so that's what's provided, or whether t.v. companies would rather provide serials and 'reality' programmes that are low budget, low quality and non-controversial so that's what people watch? However, the B.B.C. do not have to be governed by market forces, which may explain Mock the Week & Have I Got News For You

  • @corp2jonesa I totally agree with you. Spitting Image used to get upwards of 15 million viewers. I think The Thick Of It is equally good satire, but it gets nowhere near the audience. Similarly, Private Eye is at it's brilliant best at the moment, but is read by far fewer.

We are still blessed with excellent satire, but Spitting Image really captured the publics imagination and changed perceptions - I wonder if we'll ever see anything like it again.

  • @PaulMJohnson I think you're right, it's not that the satire isn't there, but it isn't as popular as Spitting Image was; I wonder if society is more apathetic so satire is less popular, or, if satire is less popular because society is more apathetic

  • @corp2jonesa That's a very good question. I was thinking about this today, and wonder if some of it's down to the added choice we have on TV now. When Spitting Image came out, we only had 4 channels (and at that time Channel 4 was so bad it was really 3 channels), so there were less options. At that time, Eastenders used to get upwards of 18 million viewers, and now it gets far less, probably because people just have more choice.

  • @corp2jonesa When it was shown public anger was high, with the new budget the anger might return.

  • @corp2jonesa Yes, too right. It comes from a time when ITV were not too busy scraping the very bottom of the barrel and filling their schedules with shitty soaps!

  • @corp2jonesa I think they killed Spitting image when they started with Have I Got News for You. I agree that the show was great, but Hignfy, and espescially Ian Hislop (who also got Private Eye) constitute a pretty god opposition :)

  • @higfny Steve Punt once said that Spitting Image - and shows like it - were dead the minute HIGNFY started, because HIGNFY is simply cheaper to make. Ian Hislop (and his writing partner Nick Newman) left Spitting Image around the time HIGNFY started. Grant and Naylor also left around that time to do Red Dwarf. They were the writers who made it hilarious viewing.

  • @corp2jonesa Really, this show was brilliant. I wish it were still around as well.

  • @corp2jonesa its to un pc fir todays media as said as that is

  • @corp2jonesa You have it - Private Eye ;)

  • @corp2jonesa they made a headcases but it only lasted a season or 2 and was shit.

  • @corp2jonesa goes to show there is no free speech anymore, it would get ripped off air nowadays

  • @corp2jonesa Boy did you just hit the nail on the head. A true opposition. 2DTV filled the gap left by spitting image for a while, but it was nowhere near as good. Spitting image made an entire generation interested in politics, it was an uncountable loss when it went.

  • the funniest thing is that stig redone that song for spitting image.

  • I notice a VHS tape at the front. LOL I have this on it's original transmission (1984) on Betamax :P
