Yep you are 100% right on that the English would kick the french in air to air combat. But I can say that As good as the britts are Candian pilots are just as good or even better the the britts (my opinion), Canada has trained a good portion of todays fighter pilots @ NFTC or NATO Flight Training Center in Moose Jaw. Israel is up there as well, the americans have the equipment but are lacking in experianced pilots.

Modern fighters with there fly by wire, computer controlled flight controls coupled with terrain following radar make the impossible relatively easy. Great for impressing the masses.

Because the flight data computer is programmed to run properly over a certain altitude, the computers in planes nowadays go into crash or land ing mode when flown too low or too slow. Look at the A320 crash in france '88.

The pilot was doing a low level pass, the plane decided it was landing, so when the pilot went to full throttle, the engines didnt respond.

I'm no expert, but they were no A320's. I know some 'modern' fighters have that terrain following ability, but those pilots are better trained the doctors, they know what they are doing, and regardless of whatever is 'helping' them... they have to have some dependancy on adrenaline, cause that is kick ass! I thought my last 'low flying' lesson in the cessna 152II was cool lol. Oh and they are Mirage F1's I believe, different to the 2000 as they have swept wings as apposed to delta :)

Yeah i know that they werent 320's, but airbus avionics are built by the same company as the french use in the mirages, EADS.

And i was just using that crash as an example of how modern avionics dont make low level flight easy, which is beside the piont anyway because these pictures were shot in the late 80's early 90's.

just some other things I thought of....you at the jet markings, they are french not south african...i am south african so i know sa colours....finally if you go to most and i stress most sights and type in "chad mirage" you will see these clips. they also have clips for the puma's. they call it "Mirage du Tchad " look it up.

I would imagine that there's less wing and overall surface area to compress the air below it than your average plane, not to mention the sharper body shape making it more aerodynamic at higher velocities. The engines also probably chuck out enough thrust to overcome any external forces that might want to cause the plane to rise up or spiral out of control during a low pass.

Very cool video, I loved the touch n' goes. FUN FACT: at these extreme low-altitudes it's often to dangerous to use the stick at all so the plane is controlled with trim only. Also, the music was a pretty poor choice with the movie. If you had to use an offspring song for this, it should have been No Brakes.
