  • Thanks for the CD update! I love how you are raising funds...I've put myself down for 2 CDs! What a great way to do it! I just stopped by because I needed a peaceful fix...and now I'm glad I did! Congrats...I really hope you reach your goal!

  • Oh, this is beautiful! Your voice is lovely and your playing beautiful. Thank you very much for sharing this gem. :)

  • @emmie77777 Thank you so much! It's a wonderful song.

  • Voice of and angel...i envy the people that can listen to your singing in person.

  • Again so beautiful.. Your voice is just so pretty and your playing is amazing.

  • You're magnificient! Can I find accords or sheet music of yours performing? If yes, would you be so kind to send it to my email?elwynsun@mail.ru

  • @ElwynSun Thank you so very much! I don't have any recordings or sheet music at the moment, but when I do I'll be sure to let you know! :)

  • Wow... Just wow...

  • Wow! You are incredibly talented. That was beautiful.

  • I really enjoyed this. I play the koto, a Japanese instrument, and it can sound similar, but lacks the range of notes that a real harp has. This was just beautiful!

I liked the snow flurries in the background. (I thought it only rained in Washington!)

  • Magic! It really reminds me of winters with snow in Romania mountains...

    Tia

  • Beautiful! You do Loreena's music credit. I hope to see many more videos from you! Thank you for providing such a lovely, peaceful break in my hectic day!

  • Hi: Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. Both my dog and I have been really ill. To answer your question, this is my very favourite song although I love all of them...

  • @spiritofwicca Thanks...that helps! I have to choose carefully which covers to put on the album (because of having to pay license fees). This one, though, is probably well worth it. :)

  • Land of Dusty Strings..................LOL

I play this song too, and visit your version to get inspiration and ideas! thanks =>

  • your good! :)

  • Beautiful sound, voice. Very cool.

  • I'm from Argentina, I don't speak English, but I can say that you are AWESOME! Very magic song

  • oh my goodness...your voice and your playing...it's so calming...i love you :D continue posting, you're amazing, and please, i agree with spiritofwicca. start recording. =]

  • @icickel Thank you so much! I'm getting some ideas about how to make it happen someday, sooner rather than later I hope!

  • Hi. I introduced another friend to your music. He also thinks you should be a recorded artist.

  • @spiritofwicca Thank you, as always! :) You're so right...I just need to get serious, figure out my resources, and all that stuff. But I promise if I do, you'll be the first to know! Well, after my mom. ;)

  • Just shared this with a friend who is hard of hearing so, I had to blast it (sorry neighbours) and he loves it as much as I do. You are an amazing talent!

  • @spiritofwicca Thanks! I wish I'd had my good microphone at that point...the sound quality is less than stellar. Oh, well. Glad he enjoyed it!

  • I love all of your videos but, I must say, this is my absolute favourite!

  • Could you post the lyrics of ths song? Please...........!

  • Could you post the lyrics of ths song? Please...........!

  • Could you post the lyrics of ths song? Please...........!

  • Amazing....!

Its so beautiful the way that you play that harp....!

  • This is my favorite song she does. You have an amazing gift...your tone is beautiful

  • meravigliosa

  • You are my hero. I have this song on my ipod...but the name of the song was wrong...so I spent almost all night looking for this song. I like this song alot...cause I to live in washington and when my lake froze over I ended up skating around on it at night...and when I found this song on my ipod I fell in love with it....it seemed to fit the mood perfectly. So I thankyou....and you have a beautiful voice ^_^

  • Wow... I love the playing and I like your tone better than hers. Fits the feeling of the snow better. Lovely job. kudos kudos kudos.

  • B-E-A-U-T-F-U-L

  • Snap, I did not expect you to start singing. Very beautiful!

  • Wow I love your voice it's so pretty! Thank you for sharing this video!

  • Thank you for enjoying it!

  • wow

  • Epic win. You, ma'am, are amazing. You play & sing beautifully!

  • Wow, thanks! I've always wanted to score an "epic win"!

  • Wow at first i didn't realise you were going to sing, but then you opened your mouth and.......... wow.

Wish you had a better quality camera, i don't think this one captures the clarity of your voice as well as it should.

    *faved

  • Thank you! :) Yeah, this was one of my early videos, and I was just using my laptop's built-in microphone, in a very echoey wood-paneled room!

My later videos (the ones in front of the unicorn tapestry) should have slightly better sound, as I have a pickup in my harp and a decent microphone now. Still don't have great acoustics to work with, but I'm improving little by little! *grin*

  • (P.S. And the video quality...ugh. Of course, I had no concept of lighting design ;) and at least you can see the snow flurries through the window at the end!...but blurry, blurry, blurry. One day I'll buy a higher-res camcorder. Sigh.

  • beautiful harp playing and beautiful voice! i loved it! it was very calming and sweet to listen to! looved it!

  • Thank you! The harp can be very soothing.

  • good shtuff!

  • Haha, thanks! :)

  • I don't think there's a more magical instrument than Harp. This is pure beauty.5 stars.

I will never forget the first time I heard live harp. Kirjuhel is his name if you want to check him out.

  • I'll have a look. Thanks for your nice comment!

  • check out the hang drum, thats pretty amazing, but yeah harp is amazing :)

    64

  • Beautiful interpretation. You are very talented. Thank you so much.

  • Thank you! So glad you liked it.

  • Amazing! What style of harp is this?

  • Sorry for the late reply! This is a lever harp (or folk harp, if you prefer) smaller and simpler than the kind you see in the orchestra, yet very satisfying to play. This one happens to be made by Dusty Strings in Seattle, WA.

  • 5 stars , no 7 stars, 8 stars 10 stars..

  • Haha! Thank you!

  • Did you mean "until your mouth opened"?

  • way to go you made me melt in my chair and now its stained good job

  • Tee hee!

  • So absolutely magnificent! You are talented :)

  • Thank you so much!

  • Where have I heard this song before? It's so familiar and so beautiful.

  • Glad you like it! The words are by Arthur Lampman, set to music by Loreena McKennitt (it's on several of her albums, and probably on several compilations as well.)

It is pretty wonderful to sing...and nice to listen to right now, in the blazing heat!

  • The Canadian Poet Archibald Lampman? I must thank you, your music made my Solstice resonate...

  • hi, very beautiful voice and you play very well!!!!

i want to learn play harp, and i love dusty strings' sound.

i'd like to know if your harp is a fh36s or fh36b, can you tell me it, please?

thanks, and thanks for the video, i enjoied it!

    terry.

  • Thanks! I love my harp too! It is actually a maple FH32, which they are not making anymore...but they will soon be making one very similar called an FH34 (two more strings).

If you like the FH36 models, mine is more like the FH36B. :)

  • thank you for the answer!

It's a very wonderful harp, it has a magical sound.

    (your voice too! :D )

    bye!

  • Oh my god, you made me cry oh my god your not just great your more then awsome.

  • Wow, thank you! It makes me feel good that you enjoyed my video that much. :)

  • Very beautiful.

  • Why are you not on 'America's got talent?'

Your voice is haunting and your harp playing is right.

    Keep posting your videos.

  • Thank you so much! I actually came very close to auditioning for AGT when they were in Seattle last month...but for one reason or another it didn't work out for me to go. Maybe next time. :)

  • the voice is sooo amazing, it's like watching a disney movie... omg. im subscribing.. i just had goosebumps.

  • Perhaps you should consider an Enya piece as well! :)

I am part of the committee for the World Harp Congress in 2011 here in Vancouver, if you're interested, you should come up to test everything out. If you're in seattle it's only a trip above the boarder. You are warmly welcomed.. there will be master lessons, master harp makers... everything... Jazz to Celtic genres... try it out...

  • Actually, there's a pretty good chance I'll be there. I'll look forward to meeting you!

  • Where and for how long had you studied your technique before playing at a professional level? You have an incredible lilt to the way you execute yourself...

On a Dusty Strings no less.... its so.... warm...

  • Thank you so much! I've been very fortunate to have a lot of wonderful harp resources at my disposal, which helped me develop my playing. I'm mostly self-taught, though I've used some books and an occasional lesson or two just to keep me honest. (And yes, the Dusty harp is a great part of my success...my playing got better a lot faster with such a gorgeous instrument to play! Then again, I freely admit I'm biased...;))

  • I myself have studied under two teachers, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra's Elizabeth Volpe Bligh (the principal harpist, she also lectures at UBC), also I have studied under Mehlinda Heartt, who teaches at three celtic schools of music here in Vancouver (British Columbia).....

For someone who is self taught, you have beautiful technique and you don't have a forced flow that many classical harpists have... :) It creates a very Loreena McKennitt tone..

  • You play it beautifully and you have an amazing voice!! I don't know the original music, but I'll try to download yours to hear YOU singging.. Can I?

I want to have it in my iPod :)

    Loved it!

  • If you can find a way to do it, it's fine with me! Thanks for the compliment.

  • You did it justice. I cann't see your wings, but I'm sure you're an angel. Thank you. You feeded my soul. It's a very sweet and delicated performance.

    Chapeau!

  • Sorry for the late reply...and thanks so much for your kind words!

  • amazing

  • Thank you!

  • WOW! just WOW! i am a HUGE Lorenna fan and it blows my mind how people play the harp! it just seems like such a complex instrument, but you girl bring it to life the same as LM and your vocals are every bit as beautiful as hers! AMAZING!

  • Thank you SO much (and sorry for the late reply!).

The harp is at the same time very simple and very complex, which makes it a lot of fun to play. :)

  • This is absolutely captivating. You play beautifully. Is it your own arrangement? I'd love to have a copy.

    Warm Regards.

    Barb

  • Thanks Barb!

It's more or less my own arrangement. I don't have it written down, though...I play and arrange primarily by ear and improvisation. Someday I really must learn to notate my arrangements, because people keep asking for them! :)

  • my favorite song by loreena...snow to me is such a goft from God -- His peace blanketing the earth..the cool perfect silence of it..

your voice and playing are soothing to the soul.....thank you so much for the post, it brought me to tears

  • Snow really is beautiful (though our last bout in Seattle wasn't as much fun!). Thanks for your comments...I'm really glad the song touched you so!

  • This is my favorite song by Loreena McKennitt. You have played it beautifully. Your voice is as sweet as a fairy. I am looking forward to much more from you. I love to watch people like you play, it is encouraging to me as I am fairly new to the instrument (1-1/2 yrs.) What type of harp is yours?

  • Thank you so much! My harp is a Dusty Strings maple FH32 (with koa trim). She fits me perfectly. :)

  • Hello ! and Happy new year 2009 !

very hard song, indeed ! but you play very well, with your heart and your soul, quite different to Loreenna, with your own personnality ! great job and play again like that ! I love discover this kind of tune !!

    take care of you !!

    Regards

    Eve

  • just wondering...i read somwhere that you taught yourself mostly...i was wondering what books or method did you use?

  • There's quite a few good books out there. Sylvia Woods "Teach Yourself..." is a great one. I also really like Pamela Bruner's "Play the Harp Beautifully" series. They also have DVDs available for these, which is GREAT...having a visual reference is really helpful! :)

  • Wow!

Lovely playing and your singing is truly beautiful. I wish I had this talent in combination with your great playing.

Did you teach yourself to sing and play, or is this from lessons? :)

  • Thanks! Mostly self-taught on the harp, with some intermittent lessons (and believe me,I could use more! Maybe a New Year's resolution...)

  • wow!

  • Complimenti ... molto brava ^^

  • Musical justice......Loreena would be proud!

Nice touch with snow in the background. I didn't know Seattle got snow.

  • So beautifull! ^-^

  • presiosa interpretacion. ;-)

  • Muchas gracias!

  • Hauntingly Beautiful.

  • Thank you!

  • Wow, this is a beautiful rendition of the song. I've always loved the harp, since it sounds so stark.

  • Glad you liked it...yes, the harp is really interesting to play. It sounds beautiful, but you can't "bend notes" or get some of the effects you get with fretted instruments. On the other hand, it is really a very haunting instrument. :)

  • Wow... amazing.

  • Thanks! It's so weird to think that was a year ago...no snow yet this year!

  • Great! Try more songs from Loreena!

  • Thanks! Someone just requested that I try "The Lady of Shalott". I've got the sheet music, had it for years, just too intimidated by what a major undertaking it is. But it's pretty tempting...such a gorgeous song!

  • OMFG!

  • Heh heh...in a good way, I hope? ;)

  • Of course!

  • You have an amazing voice too...

    O_O

this is maybe.. the most wonderfull song in the world I've heared

  • Thank you! I'm so glad the season to sing this song is almost here. It really is beautiful.

  • ohh...

    I'm from chile..

    here we're in spring-summer...

you should try creating your own records...

I'm sure you would go pretty well

  • haha...I forgot! Well, when it gets too hot, just watch the video and enjoy the snow flurries out the window. :D

I've been meaning to record for ages. One of these days...

  • I love all of the stuff you've posted but, this is my all time favourite so far. It is somehow haunting...

  • One of the nice things about fall is looking forward to more days curled up on the couch with hot cocoa. I'm not living in that house anymore, and even though I love my new apartment (it has gas heat! hallelujah!) I know I'll really miss the fireplace on those frigid evenings. Watching this video will remind me of that. :)

  • This is just beautiful.

    I am touched.

    Please never "go commercial."

    Keep playing from your passion.

It is a precious gift to your audience.

Thank you so much for posting.

    Namaste!

  • Thank you and Namaste to you as well!

I don't really think I'm the commercial "type", anyway. *grin* Too quirky. :)

  • complimenti, davvero un ottima riuscita ^_^

  • Grazie mille!

  • I never grow tired of hearing this. It is so beautiful...

  • Oh wow this was beautiful, please post more.

  • This was so beautiful! Thanks so much for sharing!!!!!!

  • i usually moan and hunker down when it snows here (so oregon). now i will play your vid. you make a snowy day something so beautiful and something to look forward to.

may i ask how long you have been playing?

    thank you!!

  • Hello again! Well, I got my first harp in May/June of 1998, so...just over ten years. Wow. That's crazy to think about. :)

  • oh my god...

    i have no words...

    its so beautiful... almost haunting...

  • Wauw, really amazing! It's so beautiful :) I think you can make many people happy. This song is so sweet and gentle. Thank you for sharing it!!

  • Sweetie:

I keep telling you that you should go professional. Your playing and your voice should be shared with the world. I would be first in line to buy your CD!!! You're the best!!!

  • Amazing!!! I keep waiting for more videos!

  • I know, I know! My bad. But I've finally got my music room set up in my new place (excuses, excuses ;)).

The videos seem to work best when they come spontaneously, though. *grin*

  • These are the first cold days of the year by this southern part of the world... and it's so lovely to come to this video wishing that the following days can be cold enough so it snows... Here it snows only once a year and I'll wait it with all my soul and hope. I adore this video, thank you very much Molli...

  • Fantastic!

  • Really beautifull and such a wonderfull voice. Was it raining when you recorded this? I love it when it rains, it somehow helps me sing better then I usualy do.

    - Alex

  • Actually, it was snowing! In fact, that was the whole reason for doing the video...I was so excited by the snow that I had to sit down and play that song. You can see it a lot better through the window toward the end of the song.

  • Really, really great! I love this song and your version of it is really good.

  • Wow, do you have the sheet music for this?

  • I don't, unfortunately...Loreena McKennitt has published sheet music for some of her songs, but not this one. I just figured out the chords by ear...they're pretty simple, in E minor.

  • Ok, thanks. It was beautiful by the way. Think you could record "She Moved Through The Fair"?

  • Oooh, I keep meaning to get around to that one. :D My cousin's request for "Give Me Your Hand" is first in line, though...and I always have so many songs swirling around in my head that I want to learn! I'll put it on the list though. :)

  • I love Lampman's poetry and this song makes it come alive! CONGRATULATIONS!

  • Oh, wow, you live in Seattle? I live in Washington state too :) I was actually in Seattle on the first of December. Going to see the Trans-Siberian Orchestra :P Very beautiful playing and singing.

  • Wow! I didn't expect the singing at first, fantastic!

  • Gosh, thanks! :) It's a great song.

  • This is really beautiful, do you know where I can get the sheet music

  • You are Great!!! Beautiful! I´am a big fan of Loreena... and you absolutely did it justice. Thanks from Argentina.

  • You're so welcome...thanks for the reassurance! :) It snowed again a few days ago here. Sheesh!

  • Thank you,it was beautiful. We've just had 15 days of above 35celcius and 41 days without rain and the images you brought were so soothing...I live in sthern Australia and rarely see snow. Your singing was superb.

  • Beautiful! I am learning lever harp at the moment with a view to accompanying my own song compositions. Thank you for the inspiritation - you are very talented!

  • Thanks! Glad to hear you're learning harp. I'm giving a harp workshop this Sunday on using chord inversions for arranging/improvising, and if I have time in the next few days, I may post short videos of the exercises I'm going to use. :)

  • JUST PERFECT!!!

  • What a beautiful performance! Enchanting...

  • Thank you so much! :) It snowed again today. This has been an awfully snowy winter for Seattle! (but I think my vid was on the first snow day. :D)

  • What a beautiful voice!!!!!

  • Very nice redition, one of my favorite.

  • I love the original song to death--and you absolutely did it justice. Wonderful treatment.

    ...More? Please? Lol.

  • It is actually snowing behind you! You have a wonderfull voice. A pure voice.

    Great succes!

  • That was beautiful! You have a gorgeous voice, and chose one of my favorite pieces of music, as well. :) Thanks for sharing.

  • it s very beautiful. please check out the upright vertical Chinese harp it s called Konghou. Chinese adopted that instrument thousands years ago through Tocarian, Indian , Persian, people.

  • Thanks for the info!

Have a Merry Solstice, everyone! :D

  • How long have you been playing the harp? It's an instrument that has intrigued me greatly but I am uncertain if it's for me. Is it difficult to learn (of course it's not easy)... I would imagine it being like a piano and guitar combined... okay so I just babbled a lot, but I really love your playing and singing.

    Blessed Be

    )O(

  • Hmmm...well, I wouldn't say it's "easy" to learn, but neither do I think it is very difficult...it is, at heart, a very simple instrument, based on the white keys of the piano. Yes, it's a lot like fingerstyle piano ;) and you can "capo" it just like a guitar, too! Not to worry, I babble about harps for a living. Don't get me started! (You can message me for more info if you like...)

  • I think I will! :)

  • That's just beautiful - thank you so much. A fabulous song - a great favourite of mine - and you do it such justice!

  • We can see the snow prefectly well, and you're correct, it adds to the atmosphere. Excellent white balance on the camera, most would have underexposed you! And the light echo does wonders for the voice (a little less for the harp).

Certainly McKennitt's version is more professional, but yours is more immediate and makes me think of listening in a drafty cold castle hall... and warmed by the voice and sounds.

  • I absolutely love this song. In all honesty though... I think I like thy version better than Loreena's(and it's on my most frequently played songs list, so that's saying something)

Thou dost truly have the voice of an angel, and I must add my voice to the multitudes crying "post more!"

  • LOL! Eeek, don't say that too loud...you'll get me in trouble!

Seriously though, thanks. I will definitely get on the ball and post more vids. :D

  • This was the very first song by Loreena I played on the harp, and also one of my favourite songs!

Your voice is delightful by the way. Thank you. :)
