I guess because automatic gearboxes cost more to buy and maintain. I guess the mileage isn't great, eather. And besides, truckers like to shift. I'm not a trucker, but I drive a standard. Automatics just don't rub me the right way. I don't lik a car that has a mind of its own.
well i dont know bout other ppl but i love to shift so thats why i prefer t drive manual instead of auto. some truckers prefer auto but i prefer manual =]
This video shows that using the truck you can manually select the gear. There is a auto feature where it will operate as a car. The big advantage of the paddle shift is the lack of a clutch. There are times when a regular eaton or Rockefeller transmission just wont shift. Then you get to look around and see how many drivers are grinning at you.
They do have clutches and more of them, but no clutch pedal. There is one clutch for the transmision and several clutches into the gearbox itself. Oh, and the clutch (the big one) works differently than a standard disk clutch.
Actully s172mch they do make argosys still. here in aust and i think new zealand, there called the Argosy Evolution, I believe they have fixed the 120 most anoying faults in the latest model.. pity its taken 6 years to fix the problems, should have been done in the first 2 years, freightliner want to be ashamed of themselves.. is the problems fixed ? time will tell....
Dude, I'd rather be up shit creek without a paddle than drive a Fritzenburger with one. Nice work. That one was obviously built on a Wednesday not like mine which was built just after their Christmas party....
When in manual mode, the SmartShift controller is used for shifting. And here's the awesome part: you don't even need to lift your foot off the accelerator pedal when using MAN mode!
oh wow haha

What is your recommendation regarding the Auto over the Manual. Do you like the auto in preference to the manual?

What's the idle rpm on this truck? I have an autoshift and it idles at 600 rpm. Do I need a higher rpm to smoothly shift into first gear?

@Mikelaren101 it takes a little bit of the skill out of driving and sometimes manuals are better

the gears kinda lag a bit?
mozebasic 3 years ago
It's just like a auto transmission in a car - it has a computer controlling it so the computer has to tell the gearbox when to shift!
huppypuppy 3 years ago
its like the xr8 gearbox very laggy

homoboi000 4 years ago
When I filmed the pedals it was in full auto shift...No need to touch anything.

Why is there a clutch? Or is that a clutch?
DrJohnBecker 4 years ago
It's a normal 18 speed manual gearbox but it changes the gears for you..."Smart Shift" You still need the clutch to start and stop.
