  • All politicians are in on the scam to grab taxpayers money. Voting doesn't make a difference, since there is only one party, traitors.

  • CNN article 09/23/08:Although Democratic vp candidate Joe Biden routinely mocks his Republican counterpart, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, for her onetime support of the infamous "Bridge to Nowhere," Biden and his running mate voted to keep the project alive twice. Both Biden and Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama voted to kill a Senate amendment that would have diverted federal funding for the bridge to repair a Louisiana span badly damaged by Hurricane Katrina, Senate records show.

  • i thought is was the bridge to russia inwhich i do support, with there help though?

  • Stupid idea. Besides it looks so much prettier without that junky bridge.

  • Fact is Obama and Biden Voted FOR this Bridge. Mccain did'nt!

  • McCain did vote for it actually.

  • The earmark was attached to a bill containing many, many other items.

    Idiots.

  • Actually, McCain voted AGAINST the original bloated transportation bill that included the earmark. Then there was a vote on an amendment to kill that one earmark and send the money to Louisiana for Katrina relief -- Obama and Biden voted AGAINST that amendment. McCain wasn't present for the vote.

  • Oh rockit1, how prophetic your words appear to be! What kind of leaders is the real question. I hope more people see this video.

  • Wow! This video really puts the "Bridge to Nowhere" into perspective.

  • this simply sucks. I think the cost analysis based off of loonie journalist with political agenda is the worst thing that can happen.

I think bridge linking an island with 7000 people with mainland and "brodge to nowhere" is a vast difference. Now, if for instance these 7000 people happen to own any significan land in the vicinity, that brings to our country coffers untold riches, denying them bridge is a national tragedy.

  • the bridge doesn't connect ketchikan with the mainland, but with another island that has the airport on it.

  • Ha! 1st comment!

Well, not since the video was uploaded, but I bet comments and views will double since this past week, so... first comment since anyone has ever heard of the 'bridge to nowhere'?? maybe??

  • Hey we have an island just north of here on which no one lives & I believe we need a new state of the art bridge to get back & forth, lol

  • Its over.

    Obama & Biden in 2008

    McCain & WTF in 2008

  • the PORKBARREL BRIDGE Of Ketchikan

  • And now Sen. Stevens is in HUGE legal trouble.

  • Senator Ted Stevens was indicted a couple of hours ago. Woohoo!!

  • Ted Stevens can pay for it himself, the jerk.

  • Ketchikan has more than eight thousand permanent residents, and upwards of 20,000 during the peak tourism and fishing seasons in the summer. Also, the ferry he's on comes once every thirty minutes. I guess he didn't have time to mention that. The bridge is excessive, as most people in Southeasat feel, but the nickname "Bridge to Nowhere" is silly and unfortunate.

  • this is sad ....we need leaders in this country !!!!

  • I think my city is planning to build a new 'Bridge to Nowhere' also, yet they can't even fix the dang potholes in the roads now.

  • wow

  • not everyone in ketchikan wants this bridge. but go ahead and listen to yourselves rant, if it will make you happy.

  • Actually the island has about 15,000 residents (many of which are out of city limits. More to the point........ya the bridge is rediculous.

  • it has just 50 people

  • If the argument is over the cost, then why does this video not compare the cost of building, maintaining and replacing the ferries over the life of the bridge? If it was cheaper to run the ferry this would be a key point in the argument not to build a bridge. However it seems this is not the case.

  • What about the cost of maintaining a bridge of that size? Beyond a shadow of a doubt it would cost more money per year to maintain the bridge then maintain the ferries. Hell you could buy a couple new ferries every year and it still would be cheaper then building and maintaining a bridge of this size. Think about it

  • People who use the ferry pay to ride it.

    Luckily they canceled the bridge.

  • You think it costs somewhere near 250 million to upkeep 2 ferries? For what, 1000 years?

  • You don't just dump stuff on it like a ferry, its a series of tubes!

  • Wow Tim Phillips is SO HOT!!! Exploiting earmarks is sexy.

  • that's hilarious. Way to go Ted Stevens!

  • Didn't the senate demand that Stevens give the money back or something? I heard he like flipped out about it, too, and it was recorded. Does anybody know where the link for that would be? I love watching Ted Stevens get all worked up over nothing to nowhere.

  • Seen him rant on the floor of Congress, it was on a Bill Moyers PBS show.

They dropped the bridge idea but the earmarks still stand

Alaska gets $148 mil for highway projects, Louisiana $75 mil to repair a bridge ruined in Katrina.

My mom and dad live in New Orleans and I vist alot and it's it's bad.

    Google

The Bridge to Nowhere: A National Embarrassment

  • haha i live in ketchikan. yeah. it's pointless

  • You should interview all 50 residents of Gravina Island and ask them what they think about this and post it.

  • bewn dawgle?

  • Boondoggle - a term for a scheme that wastes time and money

  • Amazing. Most people I know are worrying about paying their gas bills this winter. How narrow minded of them.

It would be cheaper to buy each of the 50 people on the island a boat.

  • Ted Stevens was a NutCase when he was Governor of Alaska, he hasn't changed one bit since then. As a matter of fact the entire Alaska delegation on Capitol Hill are Pork Barrel PIGS and the rest of America is paying for it.

  • what a waste.

  • ted stevens has lost it

  • He never had it, he tried to increase oil tanker traffic through the puget sound even though both of WA state's senators opposed it.

  • The Internet isn't like a dump truck, it's a series of tubes!

  • Thanks for the clip!
