  • lol nevermind. My mistake.

  • How come you guys don't have a bass player?

  • liking his [id] pants

  • God damn, everything is good except those fucking terrible vocals.

  • @monehc I'll have to agree.

    0:44 - observe Matt's drumming.

Now look at "Travis Orbin - Periphery Playalongs - The Walk". Look at 1:48 onwards on that video.

  • hmmm... matt needs to work on his kicks. it IS a bit off.

  • 0:51 to 0:57 - is the kick supposed to be that way? seems off.

PS: still not a fan of spencer's singing.

  • @tingkagol hes playing the off beat of a blast, if you could hear the snare better it would make sense

  • Is the bass drum mic'd

    ?

  • I wish this was recorded from the start D:

  • Misha's dick is holding the camera.

  • Travis Orbin was better as a drummer!!! I'm so sorry Matt :)

  • are they playing there guitars through axe fx?

  • this is soooooo meshuggah

  • animals as leaders gang rape periphery hard and then rinse and repeat haha

  • @1whitebuddah you know misha produced asl first record? silly goose

  • @jimmynavs yea i know lol i was just joking, im a big fan of bulb and aal

  • You guys make my penis happy

  • Is mat wearing Veil of Maya pants? Sweet

  • 3:15 is how hard all drummers should play

  • Oh God March 25th must come sooner!!

  • just getting into you guys, new generation meshuggah, together with animals as leaders, awesome, though you can't beat meshuggah, sorry, hehe:P awesome things you got going on though :)

  • awesome - great sound+perfomance

    poor neighbors ; - )

  • How loud do you guys practice? sounds very balanced.

  • matt halpern is a beast

  • whos the bassist?

  • @mkstreets nvm...... thought this was new..

  • their neighbours must hate them

  • That awkward moment when you realize this was uploaded on Feb 02, 2011 and not 2012.

  • you guys look tired

  • ...nothing to it

  • What cymbal is Matt using that makes that short "chck" sound? It almost looks like a china with another cymbal on top of it?

  • @hokans777 cymbal stacker. Have you seen Mike Portnoy's drum setup? Uses 'em a lot.

  • misha what happened to that guitar you are playing?

  • 0:57 WHHHAAAAAAZZZZ UPPPPP :D

  • YEAH SPONCE! SEARCH FOR THAT "FUCK YEAH!"

  • veil of maya shorts

  • What is that white Ibanez with the black trim called? Bitchin' sound you got right there guys.

  • Come to Toronto again. Round up Rody, luke, moe, arif and tim....and let's do this. Double Billed Amazement.

Hell, just have the show in Whitby. Please.

  • @chevelle1984 Makes things easier for me to get to.

  • I love it when Misha plays foreign-sounding solos, just like his skin.

  • Comment removed

  • sex

  • I'm curious where you got the sound from for this video. do you mic up your whole band for practice?

  • tit dirt

  • so how many neighbors did you piss off while practicing out of curiosity

  • I dare to say that Matt Halpern has COMPLETE independency with his limbs.

  • Matt has a pumpkin face of sweat on his shirt at the end of this video... I don't know if I should be disturbed by the moob sweat.

  • SICKKKK

  • imagine if you were their neighbor!

  • PENIS ANUS

  • i love that they do what every other young band does at the end of a song, go nuts with drum and guitar solos haha

  • Alright everyone, I'm going in to find Crazyfishyy's comment, wish me luck! If I don't make it back, tell my family that I love them!

  • @NipplesMagee I'd rather tell them that you're not creative.

  • <3

  • Mish, how did you record this, audio-wise? Is it all live sound from the camera mic or are the Axe fx's and bass DI'd to a laptop or something? Just curious cos it's not bad quality

  • @Kittehsaurify soooo, less views means worse music? I see, so Lady Gaga/Justin Beiber>Misha. Got it, your logic makes perfect sense.

  • this sounds like it could be straight off the record. sound quality wise.

  • Did you guys set out to have 3 guitarists or was it more a necessity thing. Like for example: we need 3 guitarists to play this sick riff correct live or was it more like we should start a band based around 3 guitarists?

  • @cibobary8766 we found that we couldnt recreate a lot of the songs properly with only 2

  • @Periphery Do it for dem songs.

  • I keep hearing someone out of key

  • @krisgraves69 yeah, it's the vocals.

  • That is an awesome sounding fuckin' drumkit.

  • I fucking love these guys. It's like Dream Theater with a mass amount of BRUTAL EPICNESS thrown in. :D

  • Drummer, short of [id] ( veil of maya ) :)

  • I have the original, but Spencer let's me shout something at the top of my lungs!!

  • I don't want to sound gay but... I want to have sex with Matt Halpern while watching this

  • I dig it.

  • Neckbeards.

    Neckbeards everywhere.

  • Periphery have haters. lol. damn smh! keep it up guys i love the stuff. great show at the Gramercy theatre :)by the way some dude blacked out or got wacked by the pit in the back by the doors n was knocked out cold. sad to see him miss your full set. paramedics came through tho.

  • I don't even think you can compare instrumental-Periphery with vocal-Periphery, because listening to their instrumental songs is a whole different experience than listening to the songs from the actual album.

In my opinion Periphery is awesome with vocals AND awesome without vocals. It's just different. I love their instrumental work and I love Spencer's clean vocal parts. I hope you understand what I am trying to say.

  • Last dime I give to Misha

  • Wikipedia says there's a music video for this song, but I can't find one :(

  • Can't wait to see you guys live, as well as dream theatre, it will be a hell of a night!

  • 2:52 "Bwaaaabwaaabwaaabwaaaa f*ck yeah!" Love how Spencer's fooling around here hahahah. Best singer ever! =D

  • Jesus.. These guys are incredible.... i wish my band sounded like this.

  • Man, reading Periphery's comments above scares me a bit. Ima try to stay on their good side...

  • @LlamaMommaDrama Don't be scared- they're cool as shit. Presumably like most intelligent people, they just have a low tolerance level for stupid bullshit.

  • That's a good camera

  • i wonder how misha learned to tap like that.

  • i wish i had that set up in my house!!!!!!

  • bass players ride on the back of the bus.

  • I find this very easy to masturbate to.

  • If this is the PRACTICE for the European tour, i cant wait to hear the actual thing! I'm coming to the show just as much to hear your guys, as to hear Dream Theater. See you in Copenhagen in spring! :D keep up the awesome work guys, cant wait for the next album

  • At this rate i will be watching periphery kick ass on youtube all night. My bad for missing them last time they came to detroit

  • I don't understand why people constantly think Spencer isn't good in this band. I think he does a pretty good job. He's got a great singing voice, and his screams are pretty good too.

  • All I can do now is hope you guys come to the Netherlands as well!

I had to miss the last Periphery concert down here, unfortunately. ):

  • My God...the musicianship, the details..... Oh man!!!! All I can say is that I hope the second album (well all the way until the 20th album) is of the same standard as the first and not a 180 degree turn

  • I have only heard of Periphery at Metal Injection and from what I listened to sounded really great. Which led me to this song. Which sounds FUCKING Awesome! By the way you guys have one of the Best Metallica covers!

  • I have no idea what these noobs are on about when they say that people don't like spencer's voice, it fits the music perfectly! I couldn't think of Periphery sounding any better than they do now. They were amazing at Sonisphere, and no matter how many times I listen to the album or Icarus Lives!, it never ceases to impress. Congrats guys, can't wait for the new albums and the inevitable tour of the UK ;D

  • just got hip to you guys from a friend. awesome music. haven't pursued a full-time band in about 3 years (deployments), but now i'm itchin' for it. great post... cheers!\m/

  • who´s shredding form 3:35 onwards? it´s sick.

  • @MojoJojo378 Alex

  • @StewieSwan he´s goood.

  • i dont know what the majority of those people are hearing. spencer sounds great!

  • i love how serious everyone gets, i just wanted to see what kind of reaction id get from saying something like that :) dont get me wrong ive been a periphery fan for years since back wen jake was in the band i just wanted to get an idea of how defencive people get wen someone says something they largly dont agree on. keep doing what your doing its working but dont get so bad about someone voicing an opinion, its not very professional :) so....to sum up,this was lots of funsies

  • @Crazyfishyyy Congrats. I hope that made you feel better about yourself... PS The vocals kick ass and the vocals suit the music perfect IMO. It just goes to show you not everyone thinks like you and if you don't like Spencer then don't listen to the band anymore. It's not that hard. Peace.

  • @Crazyfishyyy Yeah nobody believes you. You're retarded. You weren't voicing your opinion. You were purposely trying to piss off the periphery guys.

  • oh yeah and im entitled to my opinion! :)

  • Spencer is the best vocal Periphery already have, IMO.

And Matt's groovy approach is so fucking sick!

    Awesome formation at all.

  • @Crazyfishyyy 1) I have no idea where you are getting this information from, but its absolutely incorrect. 2) You need to realize that we have never been and will never be about doing what people/fans want, so EVEN if you were right, it still wouldnt matter. Grow up.

  • @Crazyfishyyy I'm sorry, sir. But do you understand just how ridiculous your comment is? Oh yeah, totally, 90% of the comments on YouTube or on forums are all discriminating Spencer and his performance in the band. I'd love to know how you came up with that statistic. I know I am being hypocritical by responding to your comment in this manner (because people who "don't need to grow up" usually do not put bullshit comments on YouTube), put for the sake of my favourite band I need to.

  • @Crazyfishyyy "You as a band need to get recognised (By the way, it's recognized) and do tours to promote yourselves it wouldnt make much sence (sense) not to take a some direction from there opinions either coz if you have no fans then you have nothing as a band". First off, your grammatical ambiguity made it nearly impossible to sum up what the hell you're trying to say (just thought I'd throw that in there ;D), but have you not noticed that they have done a pretty damn good job of doing what

  • @Crazyfishyyy you suggested they do? Not many bands have a large online following allowing them to tour with many other big name bands without having an album released. And yes I'm well aware of the fact they have an album out. I'm sure all of Periphery's little hearts are shattered because one person said they didn't like Spencer (and apparently 90% of everyone else who knows of him!) I agree that his screams aren't amazing and they don't blow my mind. But he fits well with the band,

  • @Crazyfishyyy Contributes many good, musical ideas, and much more which I'm sure you could ask Periphery about. I suggest you either smash your computer keyboard (in case it's too much of a temptation to write immature comments with), or you write encouraging things, ideas, questions about them, etc. But please, for the sake of all the Periphery fans out there, just shut up. You have a great day.

  • @Crazyfishyyy Except that 90% of people online dont say that, and we have been extremely fortunate to get lots of awesome tours. Our last tour was a surprisingly successful Headlining tour and our next tour is a European Tour with Dream Theater. So even from that point of view we obviously we need to keep doing what we are doing. To recap: you have no idea what you are talking about, and what you say holds no weight whatsoever because you are basing it on youtube comments and not reality.

  • @Periphery - The only thing i dont understand about this conversation is why you are actually debating how good the singer of your international band is. This douche doesnt deserve to even be acknowledged. I think it speaks volumes on how humble you still are, but you guys are rockstars. Its time to start acting like an international success and hire someone else to monitor your youtube. Keep doing what your doing, ive been so bored with all music until you guys came around. Thanks for the tunes

  • @Periphery u mad periphery?

  • @Periphery You are so cool, I wish to be like y'all one day!!

  • @Periphery I'm following you guys for the European Tour ;]

  • @Periphery seeing you guys in glasgow when you support dream theater, i can't effing wait and i thought you handled that argument pretty damn well

also thanks for telling me to listen to Dear Hunter, one of my favourite bands now!

  • @Periphery you and animals as leaders and the faceless and Born of Osiris need to do a sherdders tour.

    you guys are awesome. /fangasm

  • @Jackson1983Bass and veil of maya

  • @Periphery I respect the fact that it's your music and you're free to do with it what you will but @crazyfishyyy is right. The majority of us do in fact prefer your music as purely instrumental at least in the Haunted Shores projects.

  • @kalloused What "information" are you basing this off of? I am just curious as to where you are getting your "facts". We have actual stats and sales that show that the instrumental tracks are less than 1/10th as popular as the regular tracks. Not that it matters, but it is cool to know that the grand majority of our fans like us as we are, especially because we have no plans to change.

  • @Periphery Honestly these guys (@crazyfishyyy & @kalloused) are just trying to push their own opinions and making a false generalization. If they want instrumental tracks, go to Misha's soundclick and download the 100+ songs. That page is a fucking goldmine of piss excellence.

  • @Periphery Don't get offended or take it personally. Like I said, mainly in the Haunted Shores/Bulb projects. But all the forums, youtube videos, fans spoken to personally all seem to say "I love the iinstrumental stuff more than the vocals". You guys make alot of great music in a lot of great projects. Just don't forget, ALOT of us mainly listen to the instrumental stuff. Don't change Periphery. Just keep giving us the insturmental greats in bulb and Haunted shores please.

  • @Periphery and i should be more clear too. I'm mainly talking about fans of Haunted Shores and Bulb, if you look at the youtube track with Spencer singing....the top comment is "This kind of music is better without vocals". I love you guys, Misha is my idol and I spend hours a day trying to learn his stuff. We love the Instrumental stuff from the other projects and the FF7 covers, so please keep giving us those and I'll always buy.

  • @Periphery here, read the top ranked comment watch?v=odUetlJ0FGY

  • @kalloused Wow, you are referencing a comment you made, that got thumbs up on a YOUTUBE video, from a band that ISNT Periphery. You couldnt find something more anecdotal if you tried. There is so much wrong with what you are putting on the table that i am wasting my time by taking this any further, of course thats what i get for thinking you would have ACTUAL information...

  • @Periphery Oh wait.....I figured it out, this IS Spencer right? No wonder you're so butthurt. BTW, it's pretty obvious you haven't been paying attention to anything I've been saying.

  • @kalloused and @Eklipsed666

You know what periphery would do if their first concern woulb be to please as much people as possible? pop music.

sure they would get hated by metalhead and rocklovers , but those people aren't a majority of the world's population.

Caring about your fans is something nice, but not when it's so much that you have to lose yourself...

  • @blobliblo35 Exactly, we have always done what pleases us because we will never be able to please everyone. If people dig it, then awesome, but why would we listen to someone else over what we want to do. If we wanted to be instrumental, we would have been, but some dude with an opinion will not change what we want to do with our music.

  • @Periphery Good lad. Keep it as you are! :)

  • @Periphery Honestly, people will be critics man. I'm still trying to push my music out and I have heard nasty shit coming from local shops that my music was not worth making and that it sucked. However those people can suck it cause I ended up selling all of my first production print anyways. To me that's a big fuck you to the critics and a smile to my face knowing that there are actually people buying what I have to offer. I don't care how many fans I get, I will push my effort my way.

  • @Periphery So honestly, it's artists like you that really help me to keep pushing things the way I want to push them. Despite me being a World Fusion artist who actually uses metal as my inspiration lol.

  • @Periphery I don't know why you're so pissed about it, but as fans we interact with each other more than YOU do as the band. WE buy the records and WE know that the majority of us like it strictly instrumental. I don't buy the stuff vocals, never have and never will. Keep pumpin out the instrumental stuff and I'll be the first to get it.

  • @kalloused and since they are the band they wouldn't know or have accurate information about their record sales and have no clue which albums are more popular sales wise. Especially since the album was self-produced, they would have no way to know! I bet they're so glad to know that they have fans with all this information like you to let them know which albums and songs are more popular

  • @boi905 Haha pwnage!

  • @Crazyfishyyy You are a flying douchemonkey. Bands shouldn't need fans. Bands make music to express themselves. Obviously they're doing something right if they are one of the best djent bands on the scene today.

  • @Crazyfishyyy It's not always about what the fans want, and you don't need to have fans to be an amazing band! I have a band, and I consider it to be a very good one, but we have absolutely no fans, we just do what we want! It's cool! :)

  • @Crazyfishyyy lol you're mentally retarded. First of all because you can't spell for shit. Second of all, you're trying to troll the trolls of all trolls. gtfo noob.

  • @Periphery Wow, there's nothing worse than finding out the guys you idol are assholes. For the record check me off as another fan who hates the vocals too. Talk about lack of professionalism

  • @Eklipsed666 What the fuck are you talking about? "Lack of professionalism?" If someone's going to try and call someone out DIRECTLY about something as serious as that, no one, and I mean fucking NO ONE, is going to sit idly by and let themselves be insulted. Periphery may consist of amazing musicians, but before they were musicians, they were people, and because of that, they have the right, just as you do, to speak their fucking opinion, so fuck you and the rest of the idiots hating on them.

  • @Crazyfishyyy You really dont know what your talking about. This band is the shit and is a refreshing breather to the monotany thats become the metal genre of music. This is the only metal band that i can listen to all of their music back to back and not get bored with constant blast beats and screaming. Im a fan and i say Mr. Sortello is the shit. And like periphery said below they are doing a european tour with dream theater, if the doesnt spell success i dont know what does.

  • @Crazyfishyyy idiot...

  • @Crazyfishyyy I say fuck this guy. Spencer's voice goes perfectly with Periphery's instruments. Yes, they sound amazing as just an instrumental band but Spencer does what most people can't and compliments the music perfectly . So go suck a huge cock. Thumbs up if you agree.

  • @Crazyfishyyy Stop being such a fucking prat, Spencer is sick

  • @Crazyfishyyy Dick.

  • @bobbyvanoo youre just fuckin patethic dude. Now go back to wanking on Runescape

  • Searching for the..FUK YEH!

  • do you guys record yourself practicing so you can go back and listen to it after you've practiced to help improve?

  • what happened to murphy's dingwall bass?

  • pretty bad cover..

  • @0xXxPhoenixXx0 Not sure if trolling or just stupid :|

  • Man I love how all fits in, the drums, the guitars, the vocals ! There´s not a single note that doesn´t fit in... Keep it up, Periphery !

  • I'd rather listen to Periphery without vocals.

  • Was that a Zoom super player 8080?

  • love the cross-overs at the end

  • I hope if my band ever get as big as periphery. we still practice in my living room :')

  • screaming doesnt necessarily ruin peoples voices, it bad technique that does. first time I heard Periphery was live supporting The Dillinger Escape Plan, and I was definitely impressed

  • Thank you guys so much for posting this video. I have been trying to figure out this scream forever and this helps a lot. Spencer is great. Really original scream sound and his cleans wail. And obviously you guys are bullshit ridiculous all together. Matt needs to chill out no one can keep up.

  • I saw you guys a bit ago, back when yo came to GA for the Frak the gods tour. Spencer has improved. He was really good when I saw periphery :D you guys will always be my favorite band \m/

  • I love the sound of Matt's stack. Badass!

  • I pity your neighbours :(

  • @H3lloSE Pity their neighbors? :( I envy their neighbors. Wish my band practice sounded that clean...

  • WTF.. I've seen this video about 5 times, and I only just noticed Matt has his arms covered in tattoos WTF.. hahaha

  • Bet your neighbours are chuffed!

  • Yup, this video did it. You guys are my favorite band. And Matt, is stupid good. God in human form. <3

  • I like the way he screams

  • Or the main riff from Racecar! That would be awesome.

  • Any chance of you (Misha!) teaching this on Guitar World? :) PLEASE?!

  • Don't you have some problems with the neighbours ?

  • So who's mother's basement is this? Kudos to her!

  • who was that soloing at the end!? sounded like the almighty zeus djizzing in my ear!
