I have a hyundai Lantra 1.6 (similar to the Elantra) which was previously owned by my late sister. I "think" she changed the timing belt at around 50 thousand miles. However, I'm not sure. Is there any way I can tell by looking at the belt if it is danger of snapping? I have now done 98 thousand miles, and to make matters worse, I am now jobless and skint!
If it needs changing, I'd much rather do it myself rather than pay a "rip-off" car dealer.
I must say that you're an asset to youtube! People who share valuable information like this for free, improve the world!!! I hope that you continue to contribute! You saved me at least $400. Thank You.
how long would it take to replace just the tensioner and timing guide? i already had the belt done, but they never replaced tensioner or guide, now im getting a noise and i know its that...im guessing 1.5hr flag time..
THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO. IT SAVED ME TON OF MONEY. I TIGHTEN THE TIMING BELT RIGHT ON THE MONEY AS YOU INDICATED ON YOUR VIDEO. IT WAS RIGHT ON. IT WAS MY FIRST TIME DOING A TIMING BELT SO OF COURSE WHEN I WAS PUTING ON THE BELTS I KEPT GETTING AHEAD OF MYSELF AND HAD DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN SOMETIMES THAT IS THE ONLY WAY YOU LEARN. THE CAR RUNS BETTER AND I M GETTING BETTER GAS MILEAGE. THE HARDEST PART WAS PUTTING BACK ON THE WATER PUMP PULLEY'S.
Thank you very much for posting this video. I really need to do the T-belt on my car. Ive read walk through and manuals on how to do it. But its always very helpfull to watch someone else do this. I do agree with you. I think they could have come up with a much better method of driving the valve train. Like a chain or gears. Oh well its a cheep car what can you say. Thanks again.
I always screw the bolts in their place, and put the parts in the car/trunk, don't want to lose anything. And it sucks to have a bolt or screw left over...
Timing belts can be a pain to change, and if they break its done for. I don't like them either, but I would rather replace them every 60K then have to do timing chains on a motor when they start to wear out...
Thank you sir

@alaskanshorty17 Probably a couple hours. If you are getting noise it could also be the water pump.
WhoSaidTyler 3 months ago
@WhoSaidTyler you know what lol, it was the power steering pump. I took the belt off the pump and the noise went away.. i was pretty happy, easy fix
