  • @AntoninOldies The original was by Gene Pitney. Although Bacharach arranged that one, I prefer this version. It's more suited to her voice.

  • @AntoninOldies I was wrong. Lou Johnson did the original. I didn't know about his version and the Bacharach involvement with Pitney's recording confused me. I'm trying to look up whether Marianne or Gene recorded it first and Marianne might have, though I'd guess that she got the song from Gene, since they toured together and he's the one who knew Bacharach. Incidentally, the Pitney album it's on also has a song inspired by Marianne.
