@ViktatheSlicksta Glass sounds better, But obviously, It will break much sooner than a metal one. on a Sidenote, I use a brand new socket out of my tool box. works just as good as a "Real" slide from a music store.
Pretty Cool lesson here, Covers the topic quite well. Ive just made a bunch of detailed courses for beginners and advanced guitarists that you might be interested in. Check it out! would love to know what you and anyone watching this video thinks. Its totally free, and i mean TOTALLY
@belikewater001 Good sir, I assure you that my head is not up my ass but yours very well might be... I stated that this is good for beginners... And I also realize that the style of slide guitar is a bit gritty and raw by nature, making a certain degree of slop excusable... but I still say the tone of this guy's playing is borderline offensive. As a guitar instructor broadcasting to thousands upon thousands he should be held to higher standards.
Open D tuning is D A D F# A D. I don't know why this dude didn't take two seconds to mention it. It's a good tuning as you can capo up 2 for open E, and it doesn't stress out the neck. Also for slide, the heavier the strings, the better.
So as a beginner, I became completely overwhelmed at the different kinds of slides out there. Can you tell me what things you recommend I look for? i.e. ceramic… metal...the better brands… etc. Also what strings do you recommend for the blues? Lastly, what are some of the better, higher-end blues amps out there? THANKS!
@isntlovegrand hee dude since i see no one else responds i wil hehe but i reccomend using a glass slide for a electric guitar and i prefer metal for acoustic there aint so much different in the slide's brands just go to your local guitar shop and i use the same strings as in gibson guitars that in combination with a glass slide sounds beautiful and for a amp if you want to slide you got to have something with chorus thats sounds real cool but if you want a great amp i reccomend VOX ;)
@MATHIJSIE666 No one else responded, so thank so much for the advise!! I'm going down tomorrow to buy the slides. Do you have any suggestions for models of Vox blues amps to check out?
@isntlovegrand well i used an vox vt30 it is about 190 euro ( im dutch so i have euro ;P ) so that aint very much and vox is a very good brand the vt 30 has 12 effects and much more to customize your sound it sounds real clean so its very nice for blues ;) good luck with buying your slide's and amp id like to hear what you finally bought ;)
A lot of teachers don't really "show" you what to do. They kind of do, but I find they are often covering some things up whether purposely or not. You put it all out there and show and explain the subtle techniques.
It helps the over all sound too if you mute the strings behind the slide to stop them from ringing out. Also it's a good idea to have a slightly higher action so that the slide doesn't fret out the string when you run up the neck.
Weadley - I was going to offer the same suggestion. You should be dragging your trailing fingers in front of the slide position to mute any overtones from the strings, as well as using your picking hand to mute your unused strings. Without muting the unused strings, you come out with a very muddy sound. Granted, that's usable in some instances, but beginners need to be taught to play clean, first.
I think it would be good to teach beginners to mute the strings behind the slide. That is some noisey technique he is teaching. Some good info but also a bad example for a begginer to learn from if the student picks up that bad habit.
It's called a "slide". :P That particular one is glass or pyrex. You can get them in ceramic, glass, and several different kinds of metal. If you want to go old-school, you can use any smooth surface, like the side of a lighter or a folding buck knife (old Delta Blues slide players are famous for that particular trick and often used it as an excuse to carry the knife for protection).

How come none of you guys use standard tuning in these instructional vids.. Also there's no mention of the chords.. 7th fret, 5th fret, in open d what are the chords.. do we forget everything we know about the neck when using open tunings? Can you only play songs in the key of d? there's not enough information on slide playing in standard tuning.. Once again I go to the music store and by another book. Perhaps I'll get a camera and TEACH people myself.

This is how ppl get confused. Its not "the five", OR "The seventh" its a 1 4 5 blues. He's talking about the fret number, not the scale.

mastclimbers 1 year ago
@mastclimbers Actually, if you hit more than one note at a time, it is considered a chord.Slide or no slide.
And the chords he's using are open D, Gmajor (5th fret ) and A major (7th fret ).
So I guess you should look for that book yourself, fucknuts.
