  • there has to be an original copy of this episode that is available. you have to imagine being at a club with an excellent sound system playing this. recording quality hasn't changed all that much in the last 40 years. couple of drinks in you, volume not too loud......do it today and see what happens. don't forget to set the mood, through previous songs leading up to this.

  • males, be careful when you play this song in the company of a female of child bearing age. one on one, when a mood develops, you will become a father, even if you don't find out for years or decades. even in the presence of a group of mixed company, your fate may be sealed. someone asked, "do you remember what you were doing when this song came out?", i say "not really". when this song came out, there were so many other great songs. but, this one was "special".

  • one of the best love song ever to a women ever!!! not this newschool junk of today!

  • Damn this is great man he can sing

  • Real music

  • this is good music. music today isn't shit music die long time ago.

  • This was my jam in high school! My boyfriend bought me the 45 to this song and I played it over and over and over again!!!

  • Weeeee.... I just Saw Howard Hewett and Freddie Jackson groove out in Erie Pa 2 nights ago....... :)

  • I'm only 208 years old and I like this!

  • big daddy kane and b.u.m.s sampled this

  • Goddamn Howard you're killin' em! Howard Hewitt, Jeffery Daniels and the ever-beautiful Jody Watley, a trifector of musical perfection.

  • Love this original and the remix by Babyface. This song is timeless and classic.

  • One of my favorites, true love song

  • Yes it is Soul Train.

  • is that soul train?

  • girl I can write a book on how you making me feel. enough said

  • nice even if i prefer babyface remake! ;)

  • Who can top this song? Pure classic.

  • Love this song!!!

  • this song is a beast! Oldies at its best

  • I bet Jody and Jeffery felt at home in this one.

  • This one of those songs you never get tired of listening to.

  • @talksoftly100 that's for sure. Everytime I hear it on the radio, I start singing like I made the song.

  • One of the classic songs played in my wedding!!!

  • Another great R&B group. Wish we could get a reunion tour!

  • hey now

  • Jody and Jeffrey had the smoothest choreography. (they used to be dancers on Soul Train b4 Shalamar) . Along with the silky vocals of Howard, Shalmar was the GROUP back in day.

  • Sang Howard!!!

This IS one of the GREATEST & Most POWERFUL Love Songs Ever Written...AND Sung by one of the Most BEAUTIFUL & SOULFUL Voices on GOD's Earth!

  • Where is Howard Now!!! We need him!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Billboard #8 Hot R&B Singles 1981, seems it would have been #1. Great group, Jody Watley always had the group concepts choreography and wardrobe on point during her time in it, just read an archived JET magazine article recently of them and still have my vinyl records

  • michael stole the moonwalk from jeffery!

  • @johnnydoggworth Daniels apparently learned the 'Backslide' from The Electric Boogaloos after HE saw them appear on Soul Train. Dancehistorylesson 101, u might want to search videos w Electric Boogaloos, Cooley Jaxson who taught Michael Jackson, The History of The Moonwalk with Casper Geron Candidate, and then search Billl Bailey who did the move in the 20's. Michael Jackson always acknowledged his influences Astaire, Gene Kelly, James Brown and never STOLE a move

  • i swear i havent heard this since i was like 9 lol

  • Great love song..... It was, it is and it will ALWAYS be a great love song!!!! thanks for uploading this song!!!

  • ahhh real music

  • As a hip hop sample track, how mazing is this!!!??

  • Check out my beat i sampled!

  • I WILL NEVER STOP LOVING THIS SONG !!!

  • I got proposal to on this song!

  • jeffrey and jodie are seriously in sync with the flow of this song. they are killing that groove

  • Howard's voice is so fantastic. I'd recognize his voice in any song. These three were so good together. Too bad their inner differences got in the way. This song never gets old for me. Just great sounds--I miss it. Their music is timeless.

  • @lukeloveslauraalways It wasn't all difference they wasn't getting paid by Dick Griffey who was like a lot od crooks back in the day I would have quit to and so would you. My girl Jody on harmonies made the sound and her charisma since Soul Train was the bomb glad she took her talents elsewhere though Shalamar was the bomb

  • love this song

  • Luv this song.

  • (Posted by Youtube Stream for iPhone (yst.me) on behalf of ggraya_dc@yahoo.com at twitter)

  • This song (and Howard's voice) still gives me chills every time I hear it...definitely will be played at my wedding this year!

  • Back in the 80`s when this song came out, i proposed to my girlfriend while i was in the navy. Sadly that same night we were recalled to the ship and were deployed to the middle east because of tensions there. she mailed me all of my love letters burned up and kept the ring. i guess she thought i was playing the love them, leave them game. I still think of her when i hear this song

  • Great!!

  • Howard KNOW he can sang!

  • shalamar reunion please!!!

  • Another one of my top Shalamar & Howard H. fave's!!! Wow! What a voice!

Soul Train was THE SHOW back in the day!! Miss it so much!!!!

  • Now this is it right here...for real!!!!!

  • Good evening from POrtugal !!!!

I am 35 years old and I still remember the 80's .... Thank soo much for your video !!!!

    Have a nice 2011 !!!

    Obrigado !!!!!

  • @josevilasanta This is not the 80's this is the 70's can't u see that?

  • @ChristianoNumberOne This is the 80's my friend, released around 1981/82.

  • @ChristianoNumberOne ummm. I made this video back in '06 and it was from a Soul Train episode from 1981.

  • I love these Soul Train performances.. I think my favorite line has to be "Girl I could write a book on how you're making me feel"

  • If this trio had stayed together a little longer, but it was never to be , too many fights internally. They were talented , this was the best shalamar version, hope you realise there 4 didffernt shalamar groups due to constant changes within the group and the label Execs..Jeffrey, Jody and Howard were the best Shalamar line up, the others have been poor

  • @lanalexa20 THEY SUCK..THATS WHATZ WRONG WITH THEM..U SEE...THIS IS MUSIC...NOT THE SORRY SHIT BEYONCE OR LADY CACA PUT OUT...U DISMISSED LIL GIRL...NOW DONT BUG ME...LOL

  • Have loved Shalamar forever.

  • Great music then and today, a lot of posts talk about back then, but music always comes from what's goin' on now- wheather O'Jays or PE or 50 Cent- the current issues is what they write about. My 2 cents- sounds are harder today b/c times are.

  • @dantenyc13 I respect your opinion but I have to disagree. I think whats changed is the values. A dollar is the number one thing desired now, music be damned. Thats why so much of it is fake now.

  • this is feel good 80's music right here... New Generation don't know nothin' about this!! i wish Howard and Jody can work out their differences out though... we need this group back again.

  • @ecw231 Chile you need to get the fact from Ms Jody's mouth there is no differences go to her youtube chaanel jwatley1 and watch her unfiltered series the jeffrey dude was abusive hewett was sexist the lable owner wasn't paying up and god blessed her for getting out of that mess but she talks noo hard feelings i don't want to see her backing up anyone personally, why would anyone wish someone go backwards? she chats reuinons on part 7 just like this music for what its is

  • A killer slow groove. Howard sings his heart out and the production is impeccable

  • @Sal1675

Leon Sylvers III of "The Sylvers" produced 6 Shalamar Albums. The Man's name needs to be mentioned for his contributions to music. He also produced "It's a love thing" by The Whispers.Among many other cuts.Just based on the work that he did with Shalamar & The Sylvers the man has earned his place.

  • @ESSENCEOFEACHTHING

Disco Gardens, Big Fun, Three For Love, Go For It, Friends, and The Look....yup that makes 6. You have to wonder that 1981's Go For It was not produced by Leon Sylvers by himself unlike the other 5 albums. Other producers were Howard Hewett, James Ingram, and Jeffrey Daniels (who produced half of the album). I guess by 1984, Leon was'nt a much of a in demand producer anymore although he conituned to work with The Whispers for a few songs from 1984 to 1987.

  • Thanks for the extended info.I always welcome insight into the music arts.He also produced "Let's try love again" (A very good song) by the Brothers Johnson. He wrote Black Street's "Before I let you go". I was surprised when I found that out! The entire Lakeside album "Shot Of Love" which contains "It's all the way live" & "Given in to love" check this one out as well.A very talented man.

  • @ESSENCEOFEACHTHING

Leon Sylvers had worked on the first few albums for both Lakeside and Midnight Star before Dick Griffey saw their strong talents to produce for themselves and then history was made for both groups. Lakeside took Klymaxx under their wing and Midnight Star took The Deele under theirs too. Leon had worked with Evelyn King, 7th Wonder, The Spinners, New Kids On The Block, Glenn Jones, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Smokey Robinson, Joyce Kennedy, Lushus Daime, The Tavares and more

  • @ESSENCEOFEACHTHING

Leon only produced 2 songs for the Brothers Johnson and "Let's Try Love Again" was not it. He produced 1984's top 10 hit "You Keep Me Comin' Back" of which has Silverspoons wirtten all over it. The second song he produced for them was "Lovers Forever."

  • @soulchildsacomin

I looked into it and you are correct. He did not produce "Let's try love again". I apologize to you on behalf of the online source of info that I used.We must be as accurate as possible when dealing with the arts & credit given.

  • @ESSENCEOFEACHTHING

If you wanna hear a good Leon Sylvers ballad, listen to Dynasty's "A Man In Love" (Leon sings lead on that one), "Take Another Look At Love," "The Only One (Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis wrote and played some instruments on that song although Leon produced it with William Shelby and Kevin Spencer), and "The Way I Feel About You" Better yet, Glenn Jones' "Bring Back Your Love" was a heartfilling Leon Sylvers penned ballad and one of his last great ones too.

  • I've either listened to or sang this song in my head a thousand times. Only now, however, am I looking at this video and wondering how footage of this great choreography by Jeffrey and Jodie could have been kept under such wraps and preserved so poorly. Hey, I can barely make out their faces but their move are popping. You'd never think choreography could ever eclipse this great song but I tell ya... I wanna find a partner and try out those smooth moves J&J worked out perfectly to this groove

  • It's got to be real, girl I could write a book on how you're making me feel...

  • i remember this the soul train era some of that 80;s shit

  • Had me some of those knickers Miss Jodi is wearing. Love this, forever a classic...

  • Loved watching Soul Train when I was younger. Nothing beats the slow jams from back in the day. Songs had lots more love back then, IMHO.

  • ya might wanna get literally correct before accusing of arhythmic correctness.

  • Great song..

  • Love this track...........Very beautiful song.....

  • @Blacksquare357 on twitter

  • Miki Free without a guitar. Mickey Free started his career as the Greatest Hardrock guitarist EVER. I swear.. it's true, his band SmokeHouse should have been signed on the spot. Why they didn't is a mystery to me. He's never been recorded right, except for this sould stuff.

Now he claims he's an indian and is all buff. I guess he's pretty adaptable

  • what a voice Howard, you blow me away!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What talent these are artist! Not this bullshit that is going around now.

  • True Classic,the memories.OMG. TOO BEAUTIFUL.

  • These are times when songs were sweeter than the love between a boy and girl!!

  • Armani 22..you're probably 16 with a baby and you're grandmother is probably.....thirty....wow life sucks!

  • Oh my gosh! This is for the lover in all real music lovers.....If you like real R&B initially....... RHYTHM & BLUES! This what it's about....white people wanted to be down so bad they had to change it to R&B.....cuz they didn't have the groove to be Rhythmitical

  • @nyceization

ya might wanna get literally correct before accusing of arhythmic correctness.

  • Man he does amazing things with his voice...unbelievable vocals! I love the series of runs near the end!

  • a classic for sho..take this ring damnit..lol

  • Even if Howard was Ugly and he is SO NOT.......He'd still be one mountain i'd love to climb...........

  • 2 people thought Micki Free was a girl when they first saw him

  • THE 2 PEOPLE WHO GAVE THIS A THUMBS DOWN ARE PROBABLY LADY CACA FANS....OR BEYONCE...LOL..THEY SHOULD BE THROWN IN A POOL OF PIRHANNAS...LOL

  • @XXXXLOWRIDERXXXX whats wrong with lady gaga or beyonce

  • umm..I don;t know who the TWO people were that gave this a THUMBS DOWN..but check your ears and eyes..PLEASE!

  • I SURE WISH I COULD SEE THEM MORE CLEARLY

    mf

  • That sexy Howard Hewitt could sing the rusted nailed down iron chastity belt off of a whoring nun. I heart his voice.

  • That sexy Howard Hewitt could sing the rusted nailed down iron chastity belt off of a whoring nun. I heart his voice. :)

  • Great music from a great time. Enjoy these videos folks. Mainstream appreciation for Black Music is gone. There are no Black bands or even Black groups! Sure, there are talented black musicians, but most Black fans won't support them. We seem to prefer garbage music such as Lil' Wayne, Kanye, Drake, Soulja Boy. T.I., Tre Songs, Beyonce, Diddy, Jay-Z, etc. All White musical acts play instruments! There are countless White bands. We had better wake up at look to the past, to save our future!

  • pic is bad but he still sound good.

  • Im a realist so whhen i hear these lyrics I believe in them hh is my dawg i feell like smokey from friday (thats my dawg)

  • My niece's name is SHALAMAR TALISE FAIRWEATHER born November 5, 1984 which proves this was one of hottest group's of the 80's. I love this record.

  • @IMissMyMichael ...i hope your niece is a very scorpio, scorpio. she will understand this to her core.

  • This is a classic! I loved this song back then and love it now!!

  • A hall of fame voice.

  • I am a BIG Shalamar fan!!! And this is one of my FAV all-time songs period!! I just wish they would do a reunion concert!! They ALL need to workout whatever difference they have. It's been 20+ yrs get over it!!!

  • @Aseop: Definitely. They should really do a reunion for the 30th anniversary of this song which is next year!!!

  • @obabi personally i dont' care to see it would rather see la watley rocking the house solo like i did recently "fierceness"

  • @Aseop just say NO to reunions black ones never do well and as a watley fan it would slay me to see it. she's so much bettter off to this day without the baggage follow her on twitter i do

  • @stilettogroove I've been following her on twitter for awhile now. lol I still want them to reunite and give old and new fans a show. I thought they were great together.

  • @Aseop btw you might want to visit her youtube channel and watch her shalamar unfiltered series it's not her that needs to get over it apparently

  • @stilettogroove I said they ALL need to get together and talk out their hurt feelings. It's been almost 30 yrs, holding on to something like that changes you I don't care what anyone says. And I've heard all THREE perspectives on this matter hence my statement. Like Lauryn Hill said "Funny how money change a situation, miscommunication leads to compication." How funny those words ring true. They were young mistakes were made, as adults they should have more understanding of that now.

  • i wish i could go back in a time machine with music like this people were making more pretty babies than todays time! lol

  • @IamtheonlyKarizma ...believe it or not, you don't know how right you are.children born after this song came out, are definitely better looking than their parents (my generation). but, there were a lot of songs that came out in that same era (70's to 90's) that altered human evolution. there are far more nice looking humans in the world today, trust me.

  • Talent!

  • *dancing like no one is watching*

  • this is a boss song jack makes your heart slide like a honey bun

  • HOTTTTTTNESSSS, ALWAYS LOVE MY OLD SCHOOL

  • One of the best soul r&b love songs in history. If you don't know you better ax somebody!

  • IM SOOO IN LOVE WITH THIS SONG!!!!!!

  • Love this song truely a classic.

  • I fuck with this song heavy

  • Artist don't have the same stage presense and class that those groups and solo artist had back then.

  • This song seems to capture the feeling of those old times. Keep it alive.

  • howard hewitt s-a-n-g this song!!!

  • love this song!!! howard hewitt is the man!!!

  • Oh, Lord thank you for hearing.

  • Is this the version of Shalamar with Jody Whatley in it?

  • @dealmaker007 Yes Jody Watley was a member of Shalmar at this time.

  • @dealmaker007 Yes this is the ORIGINAL lineup of Shalamar they everyone remembers, not that mess with Nicky Free and them!! smh! lol

  • You know I lissen to this AND NEVER EVER GET TIRED OF IT! Yo for Real, This is just Dope! God bless Shalamar babeee! Bowin in respect babee!!!!!

  • The singer of today have no heart and imgination...............cause xbox and playstation doesnt promote creativity..........and when a kid is bored mom goes out and buys this crap instead of the child finding ways to be creative

  • Soul train <3

  • One of the best songs ever!

  • What year did this song come out

  • @alexanderia8182 1981 according to wikipedia

  • This was nostalgic...it seriously brought tears to my eyes!!! This era can never be repeated it was the best time in my life. Shalamar and so many other groups like them had a profound place in black culture and growing up back in the day. Music really meant something then, not like the crap they try and pass off as music today..I feel sorry for kids today. They have no clue it's really sad.
