Does anyone remember the other version of this from Rocky & Bullwinkle? Where the guy had a higher pitched voice, and when the miller's daughter asked "Who are you?" and he said "I'm a funny little man in a green suit!"
Also, he was embarrassed that his name was Rumpelstiltskin, and he exclaimed "Rumpelstiltskin?! What kind of a name is that? I can't go back and tell them that my name is RUMPELSTILTSKIN! I'll be the laughing stock of the kingdom!"
I do, and he also reveals why he wants the Queen's baby: "Dress him all in green and teach him to be a funny little man, what else?!" Which explains where these magic little men come from, at least.
The name Dick is short for Richard and something else. Don't know why, I mean, Dick isn't even in the name Richard... well dic is, but you know what I mean.
I think Batman's sidekick was named Dick too. Not important, but somewhat interestin.
Brilliant. A wry spoof on a classic fairy tale. It works for adults who will get the "in" jokes and still delight children. Edward Everett Horton's narration is wonderful. These guys were way ahead of their time and these 1960s cartoons are still great today.
There is another version where the deal is the little man will help the woman win contests and he wants her kid because he owns a camp for boys. The kid turns out to be too much for him to handle and he tries to return him telling her his name but she won't believe it. Finally the camp is destroyed (It burned down, Ma.) and the little man winds up in the employ of the woman taking care of the kid until he can guess HER name.
There's another Fractured Fairy Tales called Son of Rumpelstiltskin. The story is mostly the same but it's about young Rumpelstiltskin has to make a name of himself. The girl became queen from gold and has to guess his name. But the little man didn't know his name after 3 days of guesses. He tried to ask people, but later checked his mailbox and realizes how embarrassing his name was. He changed his name and becomes famous on TV.
This isn't the same one I recall, where "the little man" feels safe because he doesn't remember his real name, the girl finds out, and he's so ashamed of his name--Rumpelstiltskin, of course--that he changes his name and his mailbox bears his new name: Louie Smith!!! Maybe what I saw, years ago, wasn't one of the actual "Fractured Fairy Tales" but some other animated production? Anyone out there know?
@vinidici I know exactly the one you're talking about!! I've been looking for that one on here forever, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. :( It is Fractured Fairy Tales, and it was on one of the Rocky and Bullwinkle videos.
@dancingrose18 Thank you for confirming I'm not ENTIRELY nuts lol!!!
I guess, during however many seasons Rocky & Bullwinkle were in production, it eventually became necessary to do remakes on territory that had already been coverd before in FFT.
Love Edward Everett Horton's narration! He was hilarious as Fred Astaire's Ginger Rogers's co-star in "Top Hat" (1935)!
@bluevideos26 Doesn't say why he wants her baby in the cartoon, but IIRC the actual fairy tale (sanitized versions) said he was lonely and wanted to become a single dad LOL! Perhaps the original version of the tale (Grimm Brothers, and often pretty "grim" stories supposedly meant for children!) has him wanting the child for more sinister purposes--guess I could wiki it and find out more about the original version of Rumpelstiltskin, myself!
I'm pretty sure Rumpelstiltskin possess the same voice as a certain, Smooth-talking, lie-making, logic-scrambling snide wolf from the Hanna-Barbera universe.
Wait. Phil Silvers was the voice of Rumple? Wasn't he the actor who played the con artists a few times on The Beverly Hillbillies who "sold" them the Brooklyn Bridge?@dmnemaine
the one who play in the Fractured Fairy Tales title Rumpelstiltskin on this Video clip also was in another one Cinderella which is also on youtube that is under the title of the Frog Prince & Cinderella

Rumpelstiltskin was voiced by Daws Butler, using his Phil Silvers impression. It was also used for Hanna-Barbera's "Hokey Wolf".
