Crevicing sounds awesome... I'm keen as! Also been watching guys with metal detectors on Youtube... I used to have one when I was a kid, I used to love finding old coins (not so much the ring pulls from cans of coke!)
You should try crevicing! I'm about where you are experience wise but that seems the best way to find concentrated material to make your panning pay off.
