  • 35 people ARE DEAF!

  • SHE COULD SANG

  • Beautiful,

Even brought tears to my eyes. Joss stone is a lucky women to have that much soul in her voice, it will be tresured. -3

  • I have seen the light, and it is good

  • encore un bel hommage

  • I love how Aretha is just sort of hanging out over on the side.

  • goosebumps.....

  • she is old school sound

  • Forced... poser!

  • wow, she does it better than a.f. what a beautiful voice,,,

  • LOL @ aretha !

she is sitting on her throne!

  • wowwwwwww

  • 35 dislike ???? WTF!!!!!!! PEOPLE ARE CRAZY! Joss has an amazing voice and is so lovely <3

  • The problem people here have (except the never ending racism issue) is that they took 'soul' as something rigid or exact, which is simply unilateral. You might not like the soul that Joss put in this song; probably her soul was too wild in this song that you deem softer and more well-behaved. But she did have soul, and this rendition is reasonable, though definitely more controversial

  • @InvinsibleChew Emotional not wild, she's awesome and full of more soul than some R&B soul singers. and not to bring race in it, but I'm black. love me some Joss Stone, one of the real singer still making music, with out having to take her cloths of or dance in a panty, bustier, or bra. Keep taking your shoes off baby girl.

  • joss has soul..

  • she was one of the best performances that night

  • Soul isn't a matter of color its a matter of feel. The ability to inspire feeling with one's voices and damn if she don't do that well. But so did Carol King

  • 10 thumbs up from me

  • ppl really need to remember that joss was only like 19 or 20 when she performed this song and she's performing the the most respected female singer/artist of all time... so hell yeah, I'd be nervous AF FUCK too. but joss did a grea job if yu ask me

  • Lacks soul & sounds forced.

  • @2010Therapy it sounds terrible… soul is a product of experience, emotion and years of practices which is seriously lacking in this recital. As you well know! its painful to watch.

  • Kathleen Battle African American operatic soprano

  • I WANNA SING A DUET WITH HER!!

  • this made me teary eyed. great job!!

  • Awesome Cover!! she totally killed it. Fantastic energy Joss.

  • how come this only has 800,000+ views?

  • Joss Stone has to fucking do this kind of songs ONLY.

All the crap she's told to sing, doesn't show how awesome her voice is..

  • Joss put it down on that one. Killed it, for real. Don't care what anybody says, that white girl can SANG! Respect.

  • ARETHA is the unic queen of soul music. Please came in tour in Italy. J wait you

  • Would love to see aretha on the voice or x factor or american idol!!

  • You dont pay omage to a woman in a ty-dyed dress with no fucking shoes on. Its Aretha bitch it aint Beyonce. Next time look the part.

  • I love this white girl

  • Kelly Clarkson covered this the best.

  • When you can make Aretha Franklin (The Queen, period.) cry from a cover of her song. You know you're awesome!

  • Joss Stone is the best!

    Perfect

  • Joss Stone is the best !

    Perfect*

  • if anyone knew about Joss..is that she grew up listening to Aretha and her record was the frist ones she bought..this is her idol..

who cares if she sings black or white...the point is this is raw talent you don't see any more, with auto tune and remixing crap...this is what you hear and how you hear it for what it is..realx and enjoy it.

  • whoeiiiii you make me feel like a ......woman!!!!

  • shes so goooodddd

  • she sings like a black lady! :-)

  • great

  • And she is singing barefoot....girl you bettuh werk!!! haha

  • @TrevonGStovall I aint think neone else was gone catch that lmao

  • Fantasia sung rock steady. Can someone post that video

  • Hell yeah..Joss...Love her SOULFUL voice so much!!

  • Homegirl made me shed a tear

  • She black !!! lol

  • She's just got the right voice for singing soul!

    Bless you Joss.

  • love her with dark hair! really sexy..

  • She is amazing

    and such a sweet girl!

  • so much soul!

  • and for the people who criticize joss stone coz she's white and maybe shouldn't have the right to sing such black-classics like this....if i remmber well, this song was composed by some hippy white girl called carole king, back in the day......

  • @superbatfirenze Apart from the fact at the end of the comment, that is just utter rubbish.

  • @superbatfirenze Elvis wasalso a white man who sang like a black man

  • @ EnglishAB1 On the show 'The Voice' they hear the person sing before seeing what they look like but in the end the one that has a marketable image gets picked by the record producers and the votes are not a factor, so the the one with the best vocals isn't chosen. So its all corrupt, that's too bad cause there is alot of amazing singers out there that get nowhere due to those views.

  • damnn girl sing

  • always loved this song and Joss singing it./...gives me chills and lost for words Never thought anyone could cover this song but my Brit girl did it!

  • always loved this song and Joss singing it....gives me chills and lost for words Never thought anyone could cover this song but my Brit girl did it!

  • SO MUCH SOUL IN THIS LITTLE LADY SHE TOOK THIS AWAY

  • what a great tribute, she should be proud of herself, a job well done.

  • She is good but Aretha is better. I am sorry but to me Aretha in that song is the queen.

  • I wish she would hold still!

  • @ksimm81 Haha, this is even funnier when you consider the fact that Franklin co-wrote the song with Carole King, who isn't even remotely black.

  • She gives me chills. :)

  • @ksimm81 ,Thank you ksimm81

  • No Joss. Thank You.!

  • I swear I love get voice its so soulful I listen to her and get chills ! She's a BEAST :D

  • ohhh ris guurl can saaaaang her ass off woooooo goo guurl

  • To me...black or white does not mean anything as long as they have talent! We r all human!

  • Joss, I really enjoy your albums ! You can sang !! Keep up the good work!! 08.06.11

  • she is a great singer.......... so soulful.

  • @ksimm81 i was kinda under that impression WENDY WILLIAMS, but that girl made it sound better than aretha!!

  • The way she walks out of the stage is so cute!

  • Wasn't this song written and originally performed by Carole King? Who is white? It's not a black song, it's a song, period. A great song and aretha sings it great and now, so does joss. Beautiful!

  • It's amazing, thanks Joss

  • uhm..remember who WROTE this song? Carole King? a white chick? what does race have to do with a good song?

  • This is a great rendition of Aretha's timeless classic and Joss did an amazing job. I'm not impressed by her though. Vocally, Adele lays over her like a dollar over a dime.

  • SOUL'S QUEEN AND PRINCESS <3<3<3<3

  • HEY... i need now how design this dress??

    everbody can help me?

  • Awesome voice

  • One of the best singers to come along in years!!!!

  • love joss stone shes mooiiin

  • @ksimm81 So true.

  • Wow! Goose bumps...

  • Joss Stone disappeared to quick :( Just as I was starting to gear her songs in America POOF! She was gone ..She reminded me of Teena Marie. They both had their own style buy got dayum they could sing *whew*!!

  • @ksimm81 exactly.

  • I'm sure Aretha wanted Joss there. I don't think a show like this would occur without Aretha knowing who would perform. I'm sure she had some input.

  • she looks like she has pain.. but she does a great job..

  • Now now now people come on, enough of this 'Aretha wasn't happy' or 'Aretha is so up herself'. If she really felt that way, then she wouldn't have clapped or nodded her head.

I guess Aretha's mannerisms may look snobbish. But overall I think she appreciated Joss's own creation of the song. Assumptions aren't always as they seem people

  • omg...brought me to tears... to good....

  • This is why we don't have any decent singers... Because when someone with a nice voice comes along they are given a racial reception and/or copy cat title:

for example, Charice is told she is a copy of Whitney.

Joss stone is told she's white so aparently that means she is inferior to black singers...

and when a black person comes along and does Opera they are told 'Oh you're not white so u can't sing opera - get back to gospel!'

Singers should be judged on talent, not race...

  • @EnglishAB1 lol very true...Jack Vidgen is labelled as a reincarnated black woman lol

  • @EnglishAB1 compliments you wrote an amazing comment as it's a shame where we live and what we say..how we judge art

  • Actually these singers are CopyCats

Its not enough to just run riffs, have a nice voice, use auto-tune or hit the right keys.

One needs to know why those keys need to be hit, One needs to understand the context of a melody replacing a message

All singers today. Black including have lost much of that meaning.

Aretha knows this.Yesterday there were copy cats. Pat Boone,Elvis

Blacks were sold; raped murdered with no rights for 100's of years music was their only outlet.

    Today their music is sold

  • @EnglishAB1 good point

  • @EnglishAB1 well said that person.

  • @EnglishAB1 I could not agree with you more. The girl has got soul and know how to deliver. Well said !

  • @EnglishAB1 Which black singer do Opera again?

  • @MayChild8 Grace Bombry; Leontynce Price; Jessie Norman; Kathlenn Battle; Denyce Graves; Marion Anderson and others lesser known.

  • Barefoot....Sade influence?

  • @ten2pat I saw her getting interviewed and she said that she does not wear shoes onstage as she is not comfortable moving in them. She even said that she falls if it is just high heels.

  • @ten2pat Joss Stone likes to perform barefoot, becuase shoes doesn't make her feel comfortable while she on stage.

  • FIrst of all she looks BEAUTIFUL with dark hair!! Second a British white girl such as Joss, Adele, or Jessie J, or Duffy will sing circles around any American white girl and even some of the black ones. I'm just sayin. lol. And i'm black. :D

  • @fossilkid4life Don'f forget Amy winehouse!

  • @fossilkid4life Thank you for being a black person with ears cuz you named a bunch of white women who murk our top artists on the chart today. This girl here is no fukkin exception. Just the fact that she can do an Aretha Franklin says a lot about her craft. Why has this become a racial thing again. Who is she copy catting cuz I dont hear or see nobody out there with pipes like hers or Jessie Js

  • ARETHA APPROVES!

  • @ksimm81 Yeah, you are right. To all people who are thinking music is a matter of color: This song is written by CAROLE KING and Gerry Goffing, and all I know is, they are both white. So what? A great song, a great voice, what else do anybody need to perform?

  • @ksimm81 Amen to that. Fabulous talent, as are the very artists shes paying tribute too. Talent always, thankfully floats to the top, regardless of racial prejudice or colour. I love both Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner, amongst many other titans of music from all genres. Im more worried about the lack of talent now making up the charts and the industry as a whole. Depressing really.

  • Omg! The queen was right there watching her. That must have been nervewracking. She has a beautiful voice tho. Haven't rly heard a lot of live performances from her.

  • Joss is extremely talented..it´s incredible!

  • @ksimm81 That is what really does matter!! Your talent, not your color, ideology or thoughts!! Just your talent!!

  • awesome!

  • For a white girl to sing this song live, she's basically saying "Suck my dick. I've got the goods." ...and in front of the Queen no less. This is very respectable... not great, but pretty good.

  • for gods sake does colour matter WE ARE ALL THE SAME INSIDE....there is a minority who will always see a differance....get a life and love , not hate

  • good performance!!!

  • Welcome to 2011! Little white girls can sing the shit out of a soul song and a black man runs America. Build a bridge and get over it already, the battle has been fought and won.

Aretha cried, I got teary and Joss killed it - well done!

  • @ArohaleeTeRinga That just made my day! hahahh..awesome

  • You don't kill a song..Arohalee

Its not about ego its about context..

Americans could technically begin doing Sumo Wrestling or The Japanese Tea ceremony but the context would change meaning..once the act was co-opted by the larger society unconnected to the history and context of its born meaning.

Singers may COVER a song but they are covering only the reality of that message.

What singer today will touch the power & depth of a Chaka Khan, James Brown, or even M Jackson?

  • @ArohaleeTeRinga

Why build a bridge when you can just get rid of the river ?

    A bridge might break again.

  • Where do people get off saying that Aretha is not enjoying this? Dumbshits have no sense of perception at all. What, you think you have to jump up and down and make contortions out of your face to show that you are enjoying something? Hell, the more I enjoy something the more composed I'll be - all my attention is focused. You can easily see Aretha's emotion. Nodding her head in time to the music, giving Joss her whole attention, clapping and smiling at the end - what the hell else you want?

  • @MrDarkShadow64 preach!!!

  • @MrDarkShadow64 I agree :) but hahaha calm down, it's just some people's opinions... she's the queen, and she will always be the queen, no matter who tries to say the opposite, even less whoever says she was rude... hahaha please don't bleed, mate :D... :)

  • why didnt anyone invite kelly clarkson

  • Aretha appreciated. Take notice.

  • I just remembered that Christina Aguilera sang Run To You in BET when they were doing a tribute to Whitney =) white girls rock! and so as other races So stop the comparisons the hate and spread the love!

  • @ksimm81 I agree with you. I happen to think that Joss Stone is a talented singer. Besides this song was written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin for Aretha. It wasn't hers alone!

  • Wonderfull!!!!!!!!

  • good choice!

  • i especially love this one song from Joss I don't remember the title but it's something about even though we broke up I'll still be fine and move on with my life, I'll be fine or I'll be ok, I'll live

  • @tiana1017 Hmmm...spoiled?

  • @tiana1017 It's "Bruised But Not Broken".

  • around the 32 second mark Joss place her hand by her mouth as she was singing, I know she couldn't believe she was singing to one of her idols, lol, she was probably like damn, i'm singing this for The Queen of Soul Aretha lol

  • I cant fuckin believe that some of u comment the colour of the skin??!! im shocked, stupidity can be endless sometimes!

  • i swear in every live performance Joss has her shoes off

    lol

  • whats with all the racial shit, and whats with the shit about aretha being disrespectful, not sure how you came to that one, you don;t have to be jumping round to show your acknowledgment for everything, basically leave it out with all the negative shit xx

  • Arethas apparent disinterset is eclipsed only by her apparent amazement. Her father was the Reverand C.L. Franklin and this woman has no bias in her body. The Reverand Franklin was a Man amongst Men and his daughter followed in his footsteps. RIP Cunningham Franklin.

  • Within the wave of British female singers, she's probably the best vocalist. Yip!

  • @noseyization Nah Adele is :)

  • @dazzlegal22 Lol no that's your opinion but Adele is a overrated vocalist.

She can't belt it out like Joss can, she doesn't have the versatility joss has either.

Adele is an average singer at best i wouldn't say she's amazing or mind blowing, she has a beautiful voice and i love her but Joss vocally is better than her.

  • @Sup3rMegaNerd You don't have to have "belt it out" to be a great singer. All the vocal acrobatics and lung power doesn't automatically give you soul. Very few singers today can make that claim. Joss is one of them and most certainly Adele is too.

  • How can you possibly judge some1 because of his skincolour?

I bet these are the same people calling other racists.

If you wanna change the world, then start with yourself.

  • @ksimm81 AMEN! Just like my Favorite Late Great Off-White Sistah Ms TINA MARIE! Unlike these new "POP" Auto tune wannabe singers today, Joss & Tina gifts has got SOUL!!!

  • @MrsD7777 Please respect and spell Teena's name right. Teena Marie RIP

  • Okay Aretha, we know youre the queen, but Joss Stone just Blew me away! Everytime i hear this, i think its such a shame Aretha didnt give Joss the standing novation she deserved! I love Aretha but i think Joss did better!

  • That chicky sure do got some vocals on her!!

  • lack of SOUL

  • i came back and listen it a year later maybe....and i feel different about Miss Joss my opinion is dat shes alright BUT i could understand that the owner for the song did not feel the spirit .... cus' it did not make i move either ! YALL STOP SAYING PEOPLE ARE RACIAL BECAUZ THEY DON'T LIKE IT THAT MUCH!! please when white people act racial no one never say nothing to defend the victims of it BUT WHEN BLACK PEOPLE OPENS THEY MOUTH THERES ALWAYS A WHITE TO POINT THEIR FINGER!its unfair and stupid!

  • What an awesome, meaningful song and we thank you Aretha for indelibly printing your message on our lives and those who come after us and after that too baby !

  • It's all about the message that Aretha was talking about.....I'm glad that her message is being continued....Yeah baby!

  • Some think Aretha didn't like it... lol, she's singing along there with her, Joss got her legend's juices flowing just fine in the voicebox department - as she should. For a young singer in this genre, she's got it with bells on and then some.

  • @ksimm81

SANG? Would it kill you to learn some proper English?

  • This girl has MORE soul than most..........its a shame some ppl cant get past the color of her skin. If u never seen her, u wouldnt even know!!!!

  • YES NAILED IT JOSS

  • Remember - this is a white womans song!!!

    CAROL KING!!

  • i thought that aretha was to big for a son g by joss that was bigger. isaw direspect in ms franklin. NOT IMPRESSED! way togo joss keep it up luv baby

  • @ksimm81 Amen to that. I'm sooooo tired of some people making the color of a person's skin (melanin to be exact lol) so damn important! How ignorant. When are folks going to get tired of measuring a person's talent, ability and worth, by color?! Don't get me started. Anyway, Ms. Stone can sing her ass off and is refreshing and a reminder of what good soul, blues and R&B is supposed to sound like when its done right. Peace. : )

  • great job

  • Aretha is so up herself. Okay she inspired a lot of new singers, but that DOES not mean she is the best. She didn't even stand up for Joss Stone. Oh! she can't. ;O

  • i love me some aretha and she is such a great singer.. and i am soooo glad that they let joss sing to her cause joss was one of the best singers for this song.. joss knows she sang this song.. she did her thang.. you go gurl..

  • if you are going to make a comment on my aretha's weight, well dont b/c she has lost alot of weight and looks super great.

  • Did anyone bother to thank Carole King for writing it?

  • @pfmaple2 no!! Carole King is the bomb! but so is Aretha. Carole wrote and Aretha sang, but they're both legends in the Biz

  • If I were Aretha I'd be pissed too. Some idiot child ruining my song? I'd kick her butt off stage. She is too nasal and she looks like she's having a seizure while she sings.

  • i gotta admit i dont like aretha's attitude

  • I like Arteha a lot, but here she shows an attitude that resembles to me, a Nero in the Roman Circus, waiting to raise her thumb up or lowering down. She shows no respect nor appreciation for the remarkable performance of Joss. It's a pitty for Aretha herself.

  • Aretha is just pissed coz Joss sings it better than she ever could

  • @jake27990 lol really? if you dont see aretha wasnt jumping for nobody. joss is no exception she did smile and clap at the end for her. soo please

  • this is singing !!!!

    joss stone

    music angel !!!!

no doubt, and this is coming from a rap head !!!

  • I love Aretha, but damn she really looks like a queen sitting there. and Joss is like her Jester up there. Joss covered this AMAZING, and Aretha is just sitting there nodding her head, most likely because she's ancient and she's heard so many celebrities and others cover her songs through her years. pfft...she's always looked like a bitch to me, but I love her music, so can't complain.

  • @NarutimateItachi ...hahahaha....in her mind....lets get this over with and lets go home...hahaha

  • She Hit It....

  • shes amazing....

  • I love that Joss is Barefoot!

  • OMG! Amazing voice!

  • THIS WOMAN CAN SING!!! SHES BEAUTIFUL !
