  • @devonte403 Thanks so much!!

  • Now, this is the tempo this beautiful song was meant to be sung. I wish there was a posting of Gloria Lynne's version, which is quite stunning. Ken Slavin's is quite exquisite. Thank you. I'd imagine Mr. Oscar Hammerstein, who wrote the lyrics, and Mr. Ben Oakland, who wrote the melody, would agree.

  • Fine musical offering, Ken, as referred to us by The Singing Kid. Above the realm of much of YouTube's musical offerings (not to necessarily besmirch other YT musicians...I among them... but your contributions do stand out). Very nice in the world of listening pleasure. Five plus deserving stars. Amicably, Kristi and John

  • @Blinkymyt Dear Kristi and John: What a lovely message and thank you so much! Greg and I have been friends here on YT for a couple of years and I have thoroughly enjoyed his videos. Smiles and Hugs from Ga...Joyce :):)

  • @blujeanswm03 Hello, Joyce! Thank you very, very much for your very kind comments! Yes, I am a professional singer. I have been performing here in Texas for 20 years. (Later this year I will give a 20th anniversary concert.) I am still not on a record label and I still pursue my gigs on evenings and weekends - and have my own PR business by day. I'm hopeful, though! This song has had good radio play here and there - but not enough to sing full time! Thanks again! -- Ken

  • kenny...how about his recording sound quality eh???? Makes me want to toss out my stuff too! ha ha This guy is great!

    Should I retire now????

  • @elvidinck Thanks for your very nice comments! I was fortunate to record my latest CD at the top studio in San Antonio and to have a wonderful engineer and producer who worked hard to achieve good sound. My producer also wrote the arrangements for the album. The violinists are from the San Antonio Symphony. I sent the master to New York for final mastering at the studio where lots of top jazz artists sent their stuff, including Norah Jones. So the sound turned out to be excellent.

  • @totethatgun Hi, Kenny! Thank you so much! I am so happy that Greg shared my channel with his friends. And I am delighted that you will subscribe and be a new friend here!

  • Great as always Ken! Lovely strings! I'd like to know more about the string arrangement and how you recorded this! I always liked Eydie Gorme's recording of this tune. Was this originally a waltz? I seem to remember hearing someone doing it in 3/4...

  • @waltandrus The string arrangement was written by Barry Brake, the man who served as producer on the latest CD. He hired two San Antonio symphony violinists, then had them play in twos seven times (overdubbing) to create the sound of a 14-piece string section. It was brilliant. This was the first time I ever sang with strings - and I did it on one take. I felt like Nat King Cole - loved every minute. If you need more technical information, I can put you in touch with Barry.

  • @waltandrus Walt: I forgot to tell you that I do think this was originally a waltz. I recorded it in both jazz waltz and 4/4 versions on my latest CD. And I also LOVE Eydie Gorme's version! I have that album and it is excellent. Thanks again, Ken

    ------Ellen

  • @Shabannie Hello, Ellen: How nice of you! I am currently singing at III Forks at 111 Lavaca, every Saturday night this month and again on Sunday, February 14 (Valentine's Day). I expect to be doing many more Saturday appearances there, too. I hope you will come by soon and introduce yourself! All best, Ken

  • @FASHIONCONSPIRACY As always, thanks to you and Kate!!! Big hugs, Ken

  • Why can't I sing like that?!!! :(

  • @Toracube That's nice of you! Thanks! Hope you're doing great.

  • Big Wow! on this one. Just loved it Ken. Hope you are well and warm. About 30" of snow so far in NW Missouri. Wonderfully sung!!!

  • @PrisonerBob Hi, Bob! Gosh, sorry for that awful weather. Believe it or not, we've had quite a cold snap here, too - three nights in a row of temps in the 20s. That is very unusual for South Texas. But it doesn't compare to what you are experiencing up there! Stay warm and thanks, as always, for listening!

  • Lovely interpretation of the Hammerstein/Oakland classic!

  • @hrpman Thank you so much! I'm glad you like it! Recording this album was a huge undertaking for me. And this particular track just seemed to "click" on all levels. I sang it in one take!!! And what a band/orchestra! I appreciate your kind words. Thanks again!

  • If you ever tour Britain, you must really let me know - there's so much enthusiasm here for this kind of music - I'd love to come to one of your concerts (and meet you personally!)

  • @hrpman I would LOVE to tour your country someday! So far, I haven't been on ANY tours - just shows in Texas and some guest "sit-ins" in New York. I'm far from going on the road, but 2010 is my 20th anniversary in the music business, so maybe it will be my lucky year! Thanks again! - Ken
