@DrummerSGX92 hah thanks, i read somewhere that he used a Brady snare on the record, mine is a Ludwig but proper tuning and head choice combined with a great snare can get you whatever sound you want. Thanks :)
Man, yours is by far the best cover of this song in youtube ;) Pleaseeee...What's the pattern you're using for the intro?? !!! Could you make a tutorial or something?? Thanks! ;)
i wanna learn this so bad im gonna explode if i cant get this right!! its killing me its like all i wanna practice. wish there was a tutorial of this song for drums, but i gotta try to go by this.
If you want to tune your drums lower, heads are key. 2 ply heads, such as REMO PINSTRIPES work relly well. That's what I use anyway. The thicker the head, the better low ends you get, and the thinner the head the higher you get. Just make sure you know how to tune by ear and stuff and you'll be set.
@Thomasmwd Thanks dude! In this video I used a Evans ST Dry over Hazy 300, however now I am using a Genera HD Dry over Glass 500 which gives me more of a destructive rimshot sound, all are great heads though :)
@4thwatcher777 I use an Evans Torque Key to tune my toms now, but in this video I used a Drum Dial, if I remember correctly my rack toms were tuned to 72 top and bottom, floor toms 70 top and bottom, snare 92 top, 80 bottom, and kick I tightened just a tad bit tighter than finger tight. I'm thinking about making a tuning video soon using the Evans Torque Key though :)
@4thwatcher777 If you're having problems tuning your toms, most likely you are tuning them too low. A lot of people go with the "as low as you can go" thing. Don't do that. Tune up. You don't even need to get it super perfect if you tune your toms somewhat bright. Buying the right heads helps a LOT too. Stay away from Remo, rubbish compared to Evans. Evans G2 is brilliant if you're not awesome at tuning. Evans G1 is sweet if you have awesome shells, know how to tune and don't need insane volume.
this is the best cover i've ever heard... good job man! wanna ask you what is your pattern for intro??? it sounds so good not quite sure if you're using the bass drum.. thanks
Haha it's ok, I'm not sure exactly which one since there's a few that I hit around that time...the big one to my right I'm keeping a straight beat on is called a ride, the small high pitched one is a splash, and the other big one in the top right corner is called a china. :) I also hit my hi-hat at one point around then and keep a straight beat with my left foot on the hi-hat pedal :)
Oh those are ghost notes. Just lightly tap the head with the stick. I do rim shots all the time (hitting the middle of the head and the rim at the same time, sounds cool) and this helps make an audible difference between a regular hit and a ghost note as well. :)
Every song I have ever learned how to play was by ear, the only time I used sheet music to learn songs was a few Rush covers where I couldn't quite understand how Neil was doing certain fills. Lol :)
It's a 5x14 Ludwig Supra-Phonic snare, with an Evans ST Dry head on top and a Hazy 300 on the bottom. I have the top head tuned almost as tight as it will go. You'll have to experiment with different tunings to find your sound :)
It's not something to be too afraid about. If it's a dynamic mic, like the ones I have set up, they should be fine. It's the condensers you need to be careful with.
I'm in my bedroom/recording studio which is located in my parent's basement. Lol. My uncle built the room just for me because we didn't have enough bedrooms for me and my siblings. He installed a crapload of soundproofing in the walls for me and my drums :)
Thanks! :) I get a lot of compliments on my snare sound. It is a 5x14 Ludwig Supra-Phonic snare with Evans ST Dry batter head and Evans Hazy 300 bottom head. The thing's a real beast :)
damn. dude i have one like that it doesn't sound like yours. anyway you play any gigs. if not. try to get one man. this is sick. its my favorite song to play on the drums
I would experiment with the tuning then, I have mine tuned pretty high. I'll probably make a video explaining how I tune my drums eventuallyl. And yes, I'm in a few bands actually, one of which is maybe going to be going on a Midwest tour this summer :)
Yeah! Proper heads and proper tuning. I use all Evans heads, EC2s on toms, Genera HD Dry on the snare with a Hazy 300 on the bottom, and a EMAD on the kick, and as long as you tune them according to the instructions on Evans' website, they should sound amazing :)
To everyone complaining about the video quality: Please stop complaining, I promise you I will redo this and all other covers when I get a better camera which will hopefully be in the next few months or so. Until then, please bear with me. Lol
lovely timing. unfortunely the vid is of no use to me trying to figure out how to play since it was so poor quality. the tabs i found on 911 was so so. sometimes it really help to see someone else. very inspiring drumming, thanx mate. if you could put a better quality vid i'd be even more happy. cheers.
Thanks for the compliments dude. Sorry about the quality, I'm using my computer's webcam and it's really choppy. Once I get a better camera I plan on redoing most of these covers up here. :)
