  • Did you learn by ear or did you read notes?

  • 7/8??

  • I was looking to find the best Spoonman cover on youtube.

    (5 Minutes Earlier...)

"Hmm... Which one to pick? Let's start with this one."

    'Click'

    (About 2 Minutes In...)

    "This. Is. Perfect!"

BTW, your technique is pretty awesome, right up my alley of how to play drums. The snare, also fantastic.

  • your snare sounds so f'ing great!!!!!!!

  • You should play some Nirvana and Alice in Chains...your drumming sounds awesome

  • awesome!!

  • awesome skills and audio

  • dude this is one badass cover nice work! the sound of your drums are great

  • holy crap yer awesome

  • could you do jesus christ pose?

  • Your snare is almost a replica of what Matt used during that album. I'm so jealous.

  • @DrummerSGX92 hah thanks, i read somewhere that he used a Brady snare on the record, mine is a Ludwig but proper tuning and head choice combined with a great snare can get you whatever sound you want. Thanks :)

  • That was epic and the snare sounds so awesome.

  • Epic. please use a hi res camera next time so we can clearly make out what you're hitting with the time. Also are u inspired by Gavin Harrison?

  • Epic. please use a hi res camera next time so we can clearly make out what you're hitting with the time. do you play in a band?

  • this is an AWESOME cover. i love your drums' sounds, really tight and perfect tuning.

  • Nice job dude no diffrence between the real drums and your cover Kicked ass

  • Man, yours is by far the best cover of this song in youtube ;) Pleaseeee...What's the pattern you're using for the intro?? !!! Could you make a tutorial or something?? Thanks! ;)

  • what ride are you using also great cover best one on youtube!!!

  • your snare has a great pop to it man, great job !!!!

  • sounds good man

  • i wanna learn this so bad im gonna explode if i cant get this right!! its killing me its like all i wanna practice. wish there was a tutorial of this song for drums, but i gotta try to go by this.

  • If you want to tune your drums lower, heads are key. 2 ply heads, such as REMO PINSTRIPES work relly well. That's what I use anyway. The thicker the head, the better low ends you get, and the thinner the head the higher you get. Just make sure you know how to tune by ear and stuff and you'll be set.

Nice cover to you by the way.

  • I Was Blown Away !!! -----Awesome !!

  • wow man, the performace is aewsome, and the snare now have a GRUNGE sound!

    what hide you use?

  • @Thomasmwd Thanks dude! In this video I used a Evans ST Dry over Hazy 300, however now I am using a Genera HD Dry over Glass 500 which gives me more of a destructive rimshot sound, all are great heads though :)

  • your camera cant catch much movement

  • Can you plz show me how to tune your toms, like with a Drum Dial? They're tuned so well....

  • @4thwatcher777 I use an Evans Torque Key to tune my toms now, but in this video I used a Drum Dial, if I remember correctly my rack toms were tuned to 72 top and bottom, floor toms 70 top and bottom, snare 92 top, 80 bottom, and kick I tightened just a tad bit tighter than finger tight. I'm thinking about making a tuning video soon using the Evans Torque Key though :)

  • @4thwatcher777 If you're having problems tuning your toms, most likely you are tuning them too low. A lot of people go with the "as low as you can go" thing. Don't do that. Tune up. You don't even need to get it super perfect if you tune your toms somewhat bright. Buying the right heads helps a LOT too. Stay away from Remo, rubbish compared to Evans. Evans G2 is brilliant if you're not awesome at tuning. Evans G1 is sweet if you have awesome shells, know how to tune and don't need insane volume.

  • @ronnysoeberg I'm not having that problem, But thanks anyways.

  • great cover, but damn, I can barely tell what you're doing! better video capturing please!! :)

  • awesome cover maann, this song is incredible, and you just nailed it, good job...

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOO SWEET COVER

  • dude, it sounds wonderful actually...but the video quality does not let me see where your hitting exactly. Anyway, good job really. You got the beat

  • Very nicely done! Great job, don't stop what you're doing! Keep playing!!!

  • Definitely the bets cover of this song on youtube.

  • great job man. can you do a tutorial for the simple minded like me?

  • this is the best cover i've ever heard... good job man! wanna ask you what is your pattern for intro??? it sounds so good not quite sure if you're using the bass drum.. thanks

  • what is the pattern of the intro that you use for this song? btw this the best cover of this badass song on youtube.

  • @SouthSideDummer AGAIN YEAH I KNOW YOU! YOURE THE BADASS DRUMMER WHO PLAYS DIRTY LITTLE SECRET

  • @SouthSideDummer:

Nice spelling error too in your name

  • respect dude. nice cover. I wish i could do that.

  • Whats the name of the cymball that you hit at 0:46?

sorry im a bit of a noob lol

  • Haha it's ok, I'm not sure exactly which one since there's a few that I hit around that time...the big one to my right I'm keeping a straight beat on is called a ride, the small high pitched one is a splash, and the other big one in the top right corner is called a china. :) I also hit my hi-hat at one point around then and keep a straight beat with my left foot on the hi-hat pedal :)

  • ok thanks and 1 more question. how do you hit the snare so quietly that you can barely hear it

    EXAMPLE the chorus

  • Oh those are ghost notes. Just lightly tap the head with the stick. I do rim shots all the time (hitting the middle of the head and the rim at the same time, sounds cool) and this helps make an audible difference between a regular hit and a ghost note as well. :)

  • Awesome Cover, did you all learned by ear or did you have any sheets/tabs?

  • Every song I have ever learned how to play was by ear, the only time I used sheet music to learn songs was a few Rush covers where I couldn't quite understand how Neil was doing certain fills. Lol :)

  • yo. Nice name. I feel like I know you, where are you from?

  • Me? I'm from Plainfield, IL :)

  • yeah, is it nice? cold in winter? random but I think my cat has serious hallucinations

  • it's FREEZING in winter lol. I used to play for the band Down 'N' Dirty and now I'm in American Riot if you've heard of either of those bands lol

  • very good

how did you get your snare to sound like that? it sounds great

  • It's a 5x14 Ludwig Supra-Phonic snare, with an Evans ST Dry head on top and a Hazy 300 on the bottom. I have the top head tuned almost as tight as it will go. You'll have to experiment with different tunings to find your sound :)

  • thanks man

  • this is awesome maN!!!

  • Btw everyone, I heard on the radio that Soundgarden is planning a reunion tour for 2010! :) I'm stoked. Haha

  • i would be afraid to hit the mics

  • It's not something to be too afraid about. If it's a dynamic mic, like the ones I have set up, they should be fine. It's the condensers you need to be careful with.

  • alright cool thanks

  • THAT WAS TIGHT... 5 STARS

  • 1500 views in less than 3 months, this is awesome! :)

  • are you in a sound proof booth or something???

  • I'm in my bedroom/recording studio which is located in my parent's basement. Lol. My uncle built the room just for me because we didn't have enough bedrooms for me and my siblings. He installed a crapload of soundproofing in the walls for me and my drums :)

  • wicked sick

  • OMG THIS IS SOOOOOOOO GOOOD

    im cold

I like you more than lemonade

    dont ask

    cool late

gosh i hate when people say that "late"

more like leave now you fucking freak.

    ok anyways...BYE :P

  • michael cera dude :P

  • Haha I think I look more like McLovin actually. Lol :)

  • ummm i dont see taht at all

  • love the snare sound

  • Thanks! :) I get a lot of compliments on my snare sound. It is a 5x14 Ludwig Supra-Phonic snare with Evans ST Dry batter head and Evans Hazy 300 bottom head. The thing's a real beast :)

  • damn. dude i have one like that it doesn't sound like yours. anyway you play any gigs. if not. try to get one man. this is sick. its my favorite song to play on the drums

  • I would experiment with the tuning then, I have mine tuned pretty high. I'll probably make a video explaining how I tune my drums eventuallyl. And yes, I'm in a few bands actually, one of which is maybe going to be going on a Midwest tour this summer :)

  • congrats man!

  • best cover ive seen so far

  • fucking excellent job man, major respect

  • damn pretty good bro ... u even got the breakdown... i've been playing it wrong this whole time lol

  • The best cover i´ve ever seen of Spoonman in YouTube™.. Congratulations man!..

  • Haha thank you! :) Gotta love the TM symbol lol :)

  • omg, that is an amazing drum set! what kind is it?

  • PDP Platinum Series... I would actually recommend it over the DW Collector Series if you can believe that. It's that good. :)

  • ur drum set sounds amazing.........can u explain why?

  • Yeah! Proper heads and proper tuning. I use all Evans heads, EC2s on toms, Genera HD Dry on the snare with a Hazy 300 on the bottom, and a EMAD on the kick, and as long as you tune them according to the instructions on Evans' website, they should sound amazing :)

  • Although I did a little bit of EQ'ing through the mixer to help enhance the sound a bit, lol.

  • swear to god i think it sounds better than the drums on the actual song

  • Haha I don't think I would go that far. Matt Cameron is an amazing drummer. But thank you very much!! :)

  • To everyone complaining about the video quality: Please stop complaining, I promise you I will redo this and all other covers when I get a better camera which will hopefully be in the next few months or so. Until then, please bear with me. Lol

  • nice... get a better camera now

  • If you want to complain, why not buy him a new camera yourself? Until then quit complaining and enjoy the video.

  • would you want to buy anyone you dont know a new camera? thought so

  • The point is quit your bitching.

  • amazing cover! kit sounds sweet!

  • Awesome dude! you mak it look easy!

  • AWESOME Job!!! You have to record that again on with a better camera!! Loved it!!

  • great cover!!!

  • lovely timing. unfortunely the vid is of no use to me trying to figure out how to play since it was so poor quality. the tabs i found on 911 was so so. sometimes it really help to see someone else. very inspiring drumming, thanx mate. if you could put a better quality vid i'd be even more happy. cheers.

  • Thanks for the compliments dude. Sorry about the quality, I'm using my computer's webcam and it's really choppy. Once I get a better camera I plan on redoing most of these covers up here. :)

  • your good man awsome job

  • Thanks :)

  • yup

  • nice solo!
