Nyhm, it all depends on the private server. You have idiotic servers wich are like you described, but there are "blizzlike" servers where you're leveling normally, where the admins try to make it as retail-esque as possible. The "fun" or "all-gm" servers are worthless, but the blizzlike servers are for the people who want to play WoW normally, but don't want to pay for retail. They have more uses, too. They convert alot of people to go to retail because the funservers suck. ALOT.

Private servers arent all instant level 85. Only like 25% of them are. the rest are regular servers, the worst you can get is 10x experience rate. I played on a ffa pvp server called oh-wow. It was amazing. I played on retail wow based servers because it was free regular wow.

I ran Vashjir first. Since everyone went to Hyjal I decided on Vashjir, and actually got further ahead than most people on the server. Until they realized Hyjal wasn't that smart of a place to start and seemed the grumble through Vashjir. T_T But I thought it was stunning.
