This man is such an intelligent thinker. And to add to that, he can express them in perfect words. I would love to hear more of him just talking and discussing in his train of thoughts.
i hope that the female's sequal ends happy. it would be interesting. the story of "he" ended in pain and it would be cool if the story of "she" ends in salvation
Its really growing on my, especially the lyrics, I thought Daniel had in fact gone of the deep end, but now I know he was portraying a character who did, reassuring my belief that he can accurately express anything.
the way i look at it no soceity is perfect and the American 0ne is flawed but it could be worse, also i would rather have america as the most powerful country in the world as they are rahter than russia or china.

when you take into account the first part of the perfect element and listen to this album with that in mind the whole concept comes together and is very very clever
The problem with this album and pos stuff is that it's really touchy stuff and not everyone is going to think the same way. It's just the way it is. Forget countries, but, what happened to mankind. We're all still the same even if we are black, white, brown, blue, whatever. The point that I get from pos works is that I can make things better than this. I look around and see people gossiping and back-biting and all that jazz and all I want is my peace of mind.
Did he just say what i think he said at 36 seconds??...fear of a blank planet by porcupine tree beats scarsick..and so does paradise lost by symphony x...and isolate by circus maximus..i could go on for days
much as i love fear of a blank planet by porcupine tree, oh yes, and i really do think that album is a masterpiece. nothing can measure up to scarsick, emotionally. even though tracks like "way out of here" on the fear of a blank planet album are quite touching.
Daniel, Daniel, as much as I love Pain of Salvation (they're definitely my favorite band out there along with Opeth), Scarsick truly falls way short of the mark in terms of being the best out there, especially for a PoS record. I've listened to Scarsick twice and not put it on again since. I loved Perfect Element (not my favorite PoS album, but close) and was hoping to have a record that went in the same direction, instead Scarsick lacks the musical depth of previous PoS records.
think about me...i come from italy, aplace where people still vote communists to rule the country, then are left with billions of europs of debts and the highest tax pressure ever with the almost-lowest annual income per person....communists ruin italy every time they are elected. and people keep on electing them! stupid people, italians! i'm ashamed of being italian!!!!!
One thing that gets me, so many people admire Daniel, yet are bashing him for this album. So this album isn't the best, but it's better than the shit I hear on radio. And another thing, why call him an arrogant prick if he's trying to discuss the point of the album? To me, he is still the conscious modern-day hero.
wvery musician says that about their latest release, so just forget it...even 'A matter of life and death' was supposed to be Iron maiden's best album ever :-)...or 'sustematic chaos' the best dream theater's work...oh gosh...mike portnoy, HE really lost his mind!!!
yeah protecting the environment is a horrid thing to do. As long as everybodies making money, I guess that's all that matters. also stop splitting hairs. There may be countries more into capitalism, but America is the richest countrt in the world and spreads the capitalist message to the rest of the world more than any other country.
I don't think he's condemning buying stuff for pleasure, but more the way we destroy the earth in the process, and in every way let our "stuff" get in the way of everything else, even the lives of other people. Most people don't seem to care about anything but our own quality of life, and our "stuff" is the only indicator of the quality. And this is not just in America.
nowadays is so easy to speak bad about america because it's a trendy discussion....that's why i hate people...america may be "flawed" but not more than a lot of other countries. i'm italian and i'm ASHAMED of being italian right because of italians. i'd love to be american instead. period.
i love their consequent way - they do not and definitely never will play a concert in america...
on the other hand you're right. just every modern country is totally capitalistic, but americans still remain the model capitalists. face the facts and read some books about it.
btw, please also realize that in lyrics you just can't philosophically go into depth. if you ever read a real philosophical book, you'll know what i'm talking about.
ColonelKurtzx, real communism has never been established.
also by saying "Americans do not buy too many things out of pleasure" you show that you just are not that much into the topic.
go read some good books about our modern society, e.g. "one dimensional man" by herbert marcuse. it's not about "buying just for pleasure", this is SO superficial! it's a big topic, very philosophical, not easy to grasp, but once you get just a little glimpse of it, you'll see the world in a very different way
"Danny here wants use to live in a communistic static world where nothing has any value but his albums."
So you can now read his mind? Relax Mr. Defensive, I doubt Daniel was being completely serious. Composers of his caliber tend to be very subtle and unique in humor.
You said it yourself: Americans buy TOO MANY things for pleasure. Besides, in my opinion the concept isn't materialism itself, but the damage it can do to sensitive souls.
Hitler did not bring the A-bomb. True, he was a main reason for its conception, but ultimately, it was the US who (needlessly) invented that horrible thing, and the US is the only country to ever use one in a war. What else does he get wrong?
@TheOvermaster Good point. Humans are beings of constant conflict. It's an animalistic, territorial, dominance type of thing. Hopefully we evolve from that soon. Cause all the money that countries use to create weapons and machines of war could be used to much better ends. The poor people in third world countries could be sorted out, debts could be paid off, and we could turn all that money and attention to curing cancer and things like that. Things that will benefit us, instead of destroy us.
House-name in metal my ass. I can't find any Pain of Salvation albums in the stores around my town (some of which have extensive metal collections) and hardly any of my metal-loving friends know who Gildenlow is. If he's rich and famous, then it's because his genious expands to the realm of finances and the stock market.
No no no, see, what he's condemning them (I should say us) for is not the buying of material objects for pleasure, but how they (we) let the material things take over their lives. There's a substantial difference, and it's a pretty big and (I thought) obvious difference.
So glad to read some of the comments. Honestly, I have no idea what happened to PoS, or to Daniel for that matter. Somehow I got used to Scarsick, even began to like some parts of it, and then I hear it's supposed to be TPE 2 :( Forgive me, but that's sacrilege.
As for Daniel, I knew him as the kindest person in he whole world. I can't get over seeing him like this. It's awfully sad... Well, I guess when everyone tells you you're a genius so long and so often, it has to take its toll.
having said that i was a bit upset with scarsick, the music seemed very forced, there are really really fucking good parts in it but it was still a bit of a let down for me

what the colonelkurtzx guy fails to realise is that it is from the point of view of the character in the perfect element part 1
not daniel himself
yeah he wrote the lyrics
but from a chracters mentality
a thing that PoS are very good at
and are you implying that you have never contradicted yourself??
you are some perfect machine with no human element
its what people do
get used to it
iamrathercool12121 3 years ago 2

it is genius
when you take into account the first part of the perfect element and listen to this album with that in mind the whole concept comes together and is very very clever
and everything he says about america is true
its the same for all powerful governments
the world is fucked up
deal with it!
scarsick is a great album
not their best
but still amazing
iamrathercool12121 3 years ago
Life is hard enough why make it harder. So at work I smile and try and help people, I'm not perfect but I'm trying.
Also btw, pos=band not pos=Daniel. He does a lot, but I really admire Johan Langell and his drumming, like WOW! Same with keys, guitar, etc etc.
