For God sake, I just want to stand up and applaud after reading these lyrics. If I might be so bold to make a comparison, I would say this poem is almost equivocal to that of poetry written by the greatest writer to ever live, Edgar Allen Poe. Such imagery and passion, mixed with despair and gloom.
the creation of this song: hey, wanna make a half hour song that tells a novel? sure, lets mix it with pure fucking amazing. thank you swallow the sun :D
while listening to this, i made myself some dinner, cleaned the house a bit, washed the dishes and then came back and realized that this is a long fuckin song
Listening this masterpiece for the first time (thanks to my friend) and I already got eargasms around 18 minutes. To compare, it usually takes atleast 3-4 listens to get some, to notice all the epicness behind music, melodies, harmonies and lyrics. All I can say is thanks for posting this song :) totally made my day
They do have gothic influences, but among the others I've noticed, there are also elements of: Doom, Death, Black, Melodic, Funeral. I've always thought pegging any band as a single genre is silly. At least with the breadth of ways to describe current metal.
Oh god, everytime i listen to this amazing song i get shivers and my whole body shocks, its like something is moving in my blood, its summer but for 34 minutes i felt i'm living a winter season, god i fucking love this song and the lyrics are perfect!!
So much despair. So much beauty. And that's what StS has always been about. I loved their newest album just as much as their old. Hope they aren't done any time soon. Just wish I could find more stuff on the members of the band. Mikko seems like a very interesting character with a deep personality.
In my opinion Pasi Pasanen was million times better drummer for sts than Kai Hahto is. Hahto is maybe more technical but Pasanen's drumming was more fresh and it fit better in swallow's music. Hahto's fills are really boring and he raises the tempo too much live.
@SwordOvSatan I just fell asleep yesterday listening to it. Waking up realizing I wasn't able to listen to the end. Pressed replayed and listenend to the whole song again What an epic ending =)
I am a huge fan of STS but i couldnt find this album anywhere ,thx dude for the full version ,i like from their songs The gaint ,these woods breathe evil ,these hours of despair
@dark666samo dude :D these woods breath evil got me into them and the giant is amazing so is dont fall asleep, new moom and forgive her. Random unneeded commenting WTF?! hi.
They really should release more EPs like this. More than half an hour lasting story-telling melodies kept in doomy mood. Incredible, hell, where are they getting their inspiration from?!
@theevilnen Metal Archives says that this song was written as a score for a metal ballet, but the project was canceled and released as an EP instead. Search for "Pointes of Darkness" to see their song Hold This Woe used in a ballet, it's something they've done before and it's worked out beautifully.
@withintemptation73 i myself am actually not a big opeth fan, i find their music rather.. boring '^^ more into Trail Of Tears and insomium kinda bands
@xutv Yeah, I've heard that from a few people. I just love the juxtaposition between heavy and mellow that they do. They're not for everyone to be sure
@withintemptation73 You know, I haven't thought of that. People actually tend to do this connection... thanks for pointing that out, I now have a new point of view :P
