Kinda concerned with the bit about Chinese SGans asking for a Malay MP to be replaced by a Chinese one in future elections, in spite of the fact that the PAP has had stellar Malay MPs like Ta'adin and Sidek Saniff. Maybe then, the sense of Chinese superiority was prevalent, but I think we can safely assume that that's not a problem in the Singapore of today, if anything, it is the mainlander Chinese who carry such an ego around.

I do believe the principles of GRC is still relevant today. Until the ruling party or the opposition come out with a better system that does not undermine minority representation, it is still an imperfection we have to live with. Besides, with opposition coming up strong with the recent election, one would even argue it favors the opposition now!! Who can bet against Nicole Seah in Marine Parade when GCT retires?

When LKY said that Chinese Singaporeans vote for the Malay MP because of PAP, he's simply emphasizing on the strength of the PAP, and this really has nothing to do with ethinicity. LKY analogy is flawed. If the candidate is really good and look approachable to everyone, race is not issue. The GRC system only further makes the each candidate weaker because he only need to represent his own race and not care about other race or religion.
